I Will - A Mitski Song Analysis

I Will - a Mitski song analysis

note: this is my first song analysis post and i’ve decided on how i will make those; please listen to the song beforehand, and i will focus on the lines that i have a lot to talk about

i believe that the song’s overall meaning is quite clear, as it’s someone caring for their lover and looking out for them, though there are certain lines that i would like to discuss in more detail.

1. “if only you would let you” i’ve read annotations where people said that these lyrics meant that it indicates self love, which i find understandable, but i do not think so. i think it means that that this person’s lover fears showing vulnerability as they do not want to appear weak in front of their partner and they do not want them to think less of them or view them as less worthy, and because of that, they do not allow themselves to be taken care of.

2. “body bare” i believe it would mean both literally and that this person will show their partner all of their insecurities and flaws, that they will be bare in front of them.

3. "all the quiet nights you bare, seal them up with care" i think that this person's trying to tell their lover to share their problems with them, to not keep the burden all to themselves, for their partner will try the best they can to help.

4. "for i will hold them for you" this one's similar to the previous one but here the person's saying that they will take the load upon themselves. they'll carry it for their lover. they'll help them through it.

overall, this song is really comforting and i would say it feels like a hug.

On Best Friends and Platonic Relationships

you're a mystery, but one that i’m somehow familiar with. you're a stranger, yet you know me better than myself. you're a poem in an undecipherable dead language , but i understand the meaning regardless. you know me, you understand me, even though we haven't known each other for all that long. how, how, i cannot understand. all i can say is that you're familiar to me, in a way that i cannot explain. you bring me comfort, you make me feel safe, but i’ve never been even ten feet near you. you are, simply, my best friend. my closest one, the one who knows me most. even though i did not initially plan on so, i am immensely grateful that it is you who is this close to me.

Bungou Stray Dogs BEAST - a book review

the only thing i can say about this book is that it is brilliant. kafka asagiri has created the dazzling, mysterious world of bungou stray dogs, and this is simply an alternative universe for it. a universe where a certain character did not die like they did in reality. i found the general concept quite intriguing, because how much can you change the characters' personalities if you only change a small plot point that is mostly unrelated to them? a lot. you can change those characters a lot if this one tiny thing did not happen, and i think that is brilliant. i cannot say more about this book without spoiling it, but i absolutely adored the twists in it

Pink in the Night - a song analysis

much like my other song analysis, please listen to the song beforehand.  i think this song is just yearning, and because of that, i adore it so much. “i’ve been blossoming alone over you” the singer uses this to show just how much they’ve loved their lover. a flower could take from few months to many months to bloom, to blossom. also i think they used ‘blossom’ of all words to show that the love they have for their lover is as beautiful as a flower. “i love you, i love you, i love you” the repetition means two thing; the first being that the singer is doubtful. they fear that their lover does not love them back, so they’re hesitant with their first ‘i love you’ but when they see that their lover loves them as well, they get more confident, and they tell their lover over and over how much they love them. the second thing being that they’re repeating the phrase because they just want to show their lover just how much they love them. “i could stare at your back all day” the singer cannot face their lover, and because of that, they simply stare at their back instead. one of the reasons for them not being able to face their lover is because they know that their lover does not love them back, so they cannot bare to see them. another reason is because they think that their lover is so much better, nicer, kinder, smarter, more flawless and more perfect than they would ever be, so they cannot see their face, because they think that they do not deserve to do so, so they opt for staring at their lover’s back instead. “can i try again, try again, try again” the same thing i said about the repetition of “i love you” in the aspect that kissing again and again is just to show their lover just how much they admire and adore them. they are also hesitant here, afraid that they would get rejected, that the kiss would go badly just like last time, so they ask then they get more confident when their lover agrees. i absolutely adore this song. it is just completely yearning and i totally love that.

The Terrifying Tales by Edgar Allan Poe - a book review

if i were given the choice to only say one thing about edgar allan poe's writing, i would say that i absolutely adore his writing style. now there are many reasons for this but i suppose the prime and most important one of all is how he describes his scenery and characters. he describes people and places in such great detail that creating a mental image of them is a very simple and easy thing to achieve. another thing that i admire greatly about his writing, and this one is mostly about his mystery writing, is how intricate he makes his mysteries. he creates them in such a way that it requires for you to think outside of the norm in order to solve the cases mentioned in his writings. i honestly think that it is brilliant. over all, i would definitely recommend edgar allan poe's writing but i will say that if grotesque descriptions, murder, horrific things, or anything of the like makes you uncomfortable, do not read his works. note: i also read the poem annabel lee and i have to say that i really really like it. it's brilliantly well written.

L: Change the WorLd - a book review

i quite liked this. the writing style was simple, but it got to the point, and it wasn't dull at all. there wasn't any poetic or 'flowery' language (light novels usually lack those) yet i still enjoyed it quite a lot. that was because of its story. i already love death note, and l is a personal favourite of mine. i like how it expanded a lot more on l's character and personality, and it explained why he is the way he is. it also showed that he's actually human, with emotions and feelings, unlike the version of him that we saw in the manga and the anime. this part is going to be a bit spoilery, so read with caution. i like how he actually cares about light, he saw him as a friend, even though he was meant to be his enemy, and how he thinks of misa ever so often. i think if he wasn't put in the situation he was put in, he would've been a great friend to her, and they would've had an incredible friendship. i also quite admire how he sees watari as a parental figure, as he took him in when he was quite young. overall, i really enjoyed this book, although i thought it was going to be a collection of short stories, and i would recommend it to those who watched death note and liked l as a character, such as myself.
