A Guide To Exploring Abandoned Churches

If you go alone, don’t bring a flashlight. You’ll see things you don’t want to.

Don’t bring groups bigger than 12.

Bring water and some snacks, but no wine.

If you have to sleep there, sleep in the sanctuary, but not on a pew.

If you try to read the hymnal, the words won’t be english anymore.

The Bibles will be blank until you confess.

Don’t go into the confession booth. The man talking to you is not the priest, and you don’t want to know what he really is.

The cross on the wall changes locations, don’t look at it for too long.

If you see someone praying at the altar, don’t approach them. If they approach you, don’t talk to them. Leave immediately.

If you hear the organ playing while you’re in the basement, know that your time is running out.

If it plays while you’re in the sanctuary, your time is up.

Take whatever you want, but if you find that one of your possesions is missing, don’t look for it. Let them have it. It’s not worth your life.

If you find a rosary, don’t put it on. It won’t help.

The water isn’t holy anymore. Throwing it on the demons in the shadows won’t work.

Drink the wine if you wish to never leave.

Don’t get seperated from your friends.

If you spend the night, leave at sunrise otherwise you’ll enter another plane of reality with no way back.

If you don’t spend the night, leave through the doors you came in.

You might look behind you after leaving and see that the church isn’t there anymore. It means that they took what they wanted.

Never enter the same abandoned church twice. Even (especially) if you forgot something inside. That’s a lure. On your second tour through, they will know enough about you to keep you there.

my other English teachers failed me, I didn't understand I could call my writing style Gothic until this year. Now if you will excuse me I have to get back to writing about Miraculous Ladybug. Good day.

Kowloon Tong Gothic

(from some of my experiences)

- The sun comes out in winter, but no matter how hard it glares into your eyes, it’s still cold when you walk outside.

- Kindergarten, Kindergarten, Park, Alleyway. Kindergarten, Kindergarten, Park, Alleyway. The red brick roads are an endless cycle.

- Where are you? The alleyways all look the same. You’re either 1 block or 1 mile away from home.

- Construction workers have shut down an area in the sidewalk for construction. You swear they weren’t here yesterday.

- Frogs croak in the ponds in the park. You can’t see any frogs.

- Lotus flowers bloom in the pond. This year, their annual pink had blossomed into blood red.

- There is no fourth floor, there is no fourth floor. It doesn’t exist.

- Dog walkers take the same path everyday. You swear they all have the same 2 golden retrievers.

- Carcasses of frogs line the dark roads at night. You swear someone had dumped them there.

- There are bones hidden all over the grass in the park. Birds, rats, maybe a rabbit. You take photos, morbidly curious.

- One day, you found a tooth. No more bones, just teeth. You miss the bones.

- As a child, you read a picture book of a child who lived near the woods. The vibrant pictures and imagination of the author sparked your interest in art. You ask the bookstores for it, you scour every book website for its title. You are afraid that one day, you will forget it, only knowing that some book of unknown context sparked your interest in art.

- The colourful math textbooks are always on sale. You wonder who is stocking the shelves. They are a different color each day.

- Your evergreen houseplant has attracted an army of ants. You live on the 10th floor.

- You bought Shudder on your Apple TV one night to watch a horror movie. Waking up the next morning, it is gone. You then realise that Shudder was never available in Hong Kong.

The Picture of Dorian Grey - a book review

this book felt like a giant fever dream. i truly liked this book. it was quite intriguing and it kept its mysterious undertone, i suppose i could call it, all through-out the book. the idea of dorian selling his soul to a painting is what captured my attention and made me want to read it. 'what would he do with this mask of youth' was my first thought before reading the book, and, to be quite honest, what happened did not disappoint. dorian as a person was quite fascinating, although he was not that great of a person, but that was the whole point of the story, was it not? what i think that wilde was trying to inform people of, or not even inform, simply talk about, was that he thinks that regardless of how kind a person is, if they're given the chance to preserve what they care about most, and in dorian's case it was his youth, they would do it, not caring about how many people they hurt in the process. aside from the intriguing plot-line, i quite liked wilde's writing style. he uses a lot of metaphors and many literary devices and i found that to be quite amiable. (spoiler) i find the way that dorian died truly interesting and i think that, if you've read the book, you'd understand why overall, i truly liked this book and it was an enjoyable read.

Dracula - a book review

note: i read this around halloween time and wrote the review once i was done with the book. bare that in mind when reading the review. i would give this book a 4.5 stars, with the reason for the 0.5 reduction being that this book got boring at times and i found that a bit dull for a book that sounded exciting. disregarding that, i really liked this book, mostly for the plot, which i found to be quite interesting. the idea of these characters being introduced to vampires as if they're a completely foreign thing, which, to those characters and to the people who read this at the time it was published, it must've been, really intriguing as they found it so terrifying while i was totally okay with it, because i'm quite familiar with the idea of vampires and supernatural beings. i also really liked the mystery aspect of this story, as all the characters have no idea why everything that's happening is happening, and i found it really amusing to watch them trying to figure it out (i thought it was a bit obvious, although i doubted my answer a bit). another thing i quite liked about this book was the formatting. it was the formatting of a journal or a diary and i've come to find that i quite like it when that format is used in books as it gives me the feeling of going through historical records of a certain event and that feeling is really enjoyable to have. over all, i would definitely recommend this book. the story's really interesting most of the time and it fits the ambiance of fall and halloween-time

Japanese Tales of Mystery and Imagination - a book review

i would like to say, before anything, that this is my favourite book of all time possibly and that this review isn’t long because it’s spoiler-free

i adore edogawa ranpo's writing. i honestly thought that i might be disappointed by his writing as i had really high expectations for it, but it surpassed my expectations. how he creates his mysteries and how he describes everything in such vivid detail that you can see it clearly in your mind's eye is just beautiful. this collection was spectacular and i really liked it. my favourite would have to be the cliff, or the psychological test. i suppose the caterpillar could also be counted as a favourite of mine, though if it was more intense, i could've easily had nightmares. i could explain why i liked those specific stories, but it would spoil them and i'd honestly hate to do that to someone. i think that it would make a lot of sense why i like these ones if someone knew what they're about. either way, i loved this book and i cannot wait to find more of his writing to read.

The Terrifying Tales by Edgar Allan Poe - a book review

if i were given the choice to only say one thing about edgar allan poe's writing, i would say that i absolutely adore his writing style. now there are many reasons for this but i suppose the prime and most important one of all is how he describes his scenery and characters. he describes people and places in such great detail that creating a mental image of them is a very simple and easy thing to achieve. another thing that i admire greatly about his writing, and this one is mostly about his mystery writing, is how intricate he makes his mysteries. he creates them in such a way that it requires for you to think outside of the norm in order to solve the cases mentioned in his writings. i honestly think that it is brilliant. over all, i would definitely recommend edgar allan poe's writing but i will say that if grotesque descriptions, murder, horrific things, or anything of the like makes you uncomfortable, do not read his works. note: i also read the poem annabel lee and i have to say that i really really like it. it's brilliantly well written.
