Dear other autistic people, what defines a friendship to you? I don't believe I have ever had a healthy friendship and I can not find anything that truly helps me understand how one would work out. Especially with how friendships are with neurotypicals, I just feel out of the loop and it is haunting me.

People are in our lives based on energetic frequency. When our frequency changes, the people around us will either change with us or naturally leave our lives. We often try to resist this natural flow and lower our frequency to stay connected with certain people. It's crazy how friends never truly leave you.

I mean, my lock screen still has me and my best friend on it from a stupid photo shoot we did a few years ago. I still think about the times I've texted people out of the blue and had the most interesting conversations, but it was our last. My third grade best friend and I haven't had a proper conversation since 2021 and I think about her almost monthly because she was the first person I ever felt such a strong connection with outside of my family. Even those friendships where we ended up hurting or being hurt, I still think about adding an egg to my ramen because an ex friend of mine always did but I never tried it. Rock climbing is bittersweet to think about it because a friend who broke my heart still posts videos about it.

But I wish them all the best. And I want them all to succeed in life. And I think about them all the time, because they never truly left.

you're a mystery, but one that i’m somehow familiar with. you're a stranger, yet you know me better than myself. you're a poem in an undecipherable dead language , but i understand the meaning regardless. you know me, you understand me, even though we haven't known each other for all that long. how, how, i cannot understand. all i can say is that you're familiar to me, in a way that i cannot explain. you bring me comfort, you make me feel safe, but i’ve never been even ten feet near you. you are, simply, my best friend. my closest one, the one who knows me most. even though i did not initially plan on so, i am immensely grateful that it is you who is this close to me.

I used to be beyond comfortable being myself around my friends.

A few new people have joined the group and a few people have left, so I've been watching myself, but I'm still comfortable.

Well, I was.

Why is that changing? It shouldn't be changing. I shouldn't be uncomfortable while being myself around my closest friends.
