Japanese Tales Of Mystery And Imagination - A Book Review

Japanese Tales of Mystery and Imagination - a book review

i would like to say, before anything, that this is my favourite book of all time possibly and that this review isn’t long because it’s spoiler-free

i adore edogawa ranpo's writing. i honestly thought that i might be disappointed by his writing as i had really high expectations for it, but it surpassed my expectations. how he creates his mysteries and how he describes everything in such vivid detail that you can see it clearly in your mind's eye is just beautiful. this collection was spectacular and i really liked it. my favourite would have to be the cliff, or the psychological test. i suppose the caterpillar could also be counted as a favourite of mine, though if it was more intense, i could've easily had nightmares. i could explain why i liked those specific stories, but it would spoil them and i'd honestly hate to do that to someone. i think that it would make a lot of sense why i like these ones if someone knew what they're about. either way, i loved this book and i cannot wait to find more of his writing to read.

Come into the Water - a song analysis

as always, please listen to the song before reading the analysis. i actually came up with this specific interpretation quite recently and it’s the first analysis that i will post while including the characters that i built it up with. also i would like to say that this post contains moriarty the patriot/yuukoku no moriarty spoilers so beware. “come into the water” this line made me used to think that this song is from a yearning merperson’s point of view, but it recently dawned upon me that this could fit a certain favourite of mine: moriarty the patriot’s william james moriarty. as we saw in the end of the anime, he jumped from the bridge, trying to kill the final devil, which is himself. this line is directed towards sherlock. he, unintentionally, wants sherlock to save him. there’s a tiny, tiny part of him that wants to still live, and that part is the one that’s saying this line. “you look so good, but i keep my hands 'til you come into the water” he’s simply just admitting that he likes sherlock, and that he wants to hold him and touch him, but he knows he cannot, for many reasons at that, so he would keep his hands until he saves him, if he ever does. however, if he doesn’t, and if they were reunited in another life, they would still hold each other. ”but would you tell me if you want me?” he believes that sherlock doesn’t want him in the same way that he wants sherlock, so he asks for reassurance. do you want this? do you want me? am i what you wanted? am i really? i think that just shows that although he may seem to be confident and assured of himself, he isn’t, in the slightest.  “i didn't know i had a dream, i didn't know until I saw you” he didn’t know that he could possibly have emotions like this. he didn’t know that he could love someone like this. he didn’t know he had a dream, where he lives on after his plan in that dream. i think this line also really works with the most recent (when writing this it’s the most recent) chapter in the manga, chapter 67, where liam says that before meeting sherlock, his world was colourless, and sherlock brought colour into it. he didn’t know he could even see colour or dream of seeing colour before he met sherlock. i don’t actually know how will this post be received by everyone on here, especially because i never post stuff that clearly belongs to a specific fandom, it’s usually all vague, so im a bit nervous about how will this do on here.

Francis Forever - a song analysis

like the previous song analysis, please listen to the song beforehand to be able to understand this analysis better before i start analysing any lines, i would like to say that i feel that this song is the singer talking about how they’ve separated from someone that meant a lot to them and this is affecting them deeply, all because they do not know how to live without their lover being there anymore.  1. ‘i don’t know what to do without you, i don’t know where to put my hands’ the singer and their partner have separated and the singer has no idea now how to cope with them being gone. they cannot imagine their life without their partner now that they’re gone 2. ‘i don’t need the world to see that i’ve been the best i can be, but i don’t think i can stand to be, where you don’t see me’ the singer knows that they will not be able to carry on without their lover. they will not be able to live if their lover doesn’t notice them. they don’t want the world’s or others’ recognition, they just want their lover’s. 3. ‘i look up at the gaps of sunlight, i miss you more than anything’ i think here that the singer and their lover used to go on walks or something of the like where they’d look up at trees and see the gaps between them that let the sun in, and that made the singer miss their lover even more than they already do. 4. ‘and autumn comes when you’re not yet done with the summer just passing by’ i think this lyric conveys that, to the singer, summer is a time of happiness, a great time full of pleasant memories, yet it does not last for long, as autumn comes quicker than they expect. this song doesn’t really have many lyrics to decipher the meaning of, but i still thought that there were some lyrics that had a bit more depth into them. also i just wanted to add that the electric guitar played here made the song sound more like someone screaming the lyrics while crying than someone singing them softly while crying.

A Study in Scarlet - a book review

the sherlock holmes series is simply a timeless mystery classic. i've read the latter books in the series, such as the adventures of sherlock holmes and the final problem as well as the majority of the short stories in the return of sherlock holmes, and all i can say is that sir doyle was a genius, but in one aspect only. he did not have a unique writing style such as poe, nor was he descriptive in his scenery like ranpo. he is simply a genius in creating so many crimes, and so many criminals, without it getting dull or repetitive. he is also a genius in characters, for all of his victims' personalities were different from one another. i feel like i am just reviewing the sherlock holmes series generally, so i shall share my opinion of this book alone. i quite liked it, much like the rest of the sherlock series, and i like how our main characters first met, as well as the mystery that they handled. overall, i would recommend this book for it's, as i previously stated, a timeless mystery classic.

Mystery - a song analysis

once more, please listen to the song before reading the analysis. this one’s another enemies-to-lovers song, and it’s one of my personal favourites. also i believe it’s the first song for me to analyse that is not by mitski. ‘what a mystery, that i could want you still’ the singer is now with their lover, peacefully. they used to be rivals before, and they never once even agreed, but now they’re together, now they’re partners. because of so, the singer is a bit at disbelief, that they could still want their lover, but now in a romantic sense, not a ‘i-will-have-your-head-as-a-trophy’ manner. they find it to be a mystery, but one that they’re willing to unravel and crack. ‘it’s a mystery, that i would pick you ten out of nine times’ although they’re at peace with their emotions for their partner, they still are marvelled by how they would always pick their lover of all people for anything. they don’t believe, even though they know it’s true, that they would pick their lover to be their lover even in another world or another universe. it’s a mystery, one that they will never understand, but one that does not bother them, even though they do not understand it. i don’t really have much to say for this song. it makes me very happy when i listen to it, and i appreciate the two lines that i spoke of extensively a lot.
