Mystery - A Song Analysis

Mystery - a song analysis

once more, please listen to the song before reading the analysis. this one’s another enemies-to-lovers song, and it’s one of my personal favourites. also i believe it’s the first song for me to analyse that is not by mitski. ‘what a mystery, that i could want you still’ the singer is now with their lover, peacefully. they used to be rivals before, and they never once even agreed, but now they’re together, now they’re partners. because of so, the singer is a bit at disbelief, that they could still want their lover, but now in a romantic sense, not a ‘i-will-have-your-head-as-a-trophy’ manner. they find it to be a mystery, but one that they’re willing to unravel and crack. ‘it’s a mystery, that i would pick you ten out of nine times’ although they’re at peace with their emotions for their partner, they still are marvelled by how they would always pick their lover of all people for anything. they don’t believe, even though they know it’s true, that they would pick their lover to be their lover even in another world or another universe. it’s a mystery, one that they will never understand, but one that does not bother them, even though they do not understand it. i don’t really have much to say for this song. it makes me very happy when i listen to it, and i appreciate the two lines that i spoke of extensively a lot.

No Longer Human - a book review

this is unlike anything i have ever read before. (some slight spoilers so if you don't want that, read the book then read the review if you want to) i suppose that is because i usually do not read psychological stuff or stuff that has more focus on psychology. i truly liked it, even though i can now understand why it's called depressing. it was really well written and the main character, yozo, is a very interesting person, as sad as he is. i find him to be a truly interesting character; perhaps because of how detached from everyone he is or because of his introverted personality. either way, i find him really intriguing. the storyline itself is also quite interesting, as it is simply yozo reflecting on his life and seeing how it was a life of shame and dishonour for him. i suppose that, if the book did have a hidden moral of sorts, what the author might've tried to get across is that hiding who you are and masking your feelings will never help you in life at all. the clearest case of that is the entire story; yozo's whole life he's been masking his feelings and never truly saying what he's thinking and always lying and deceiving people in order for them to accept him but it will never work. either way i really liked this book, because of all of what i have mentioned above, but even though i really enjoyed it, i wouldn't be all that confident in recommending it as it's a depressing story. side note: i read a translated version (obviously) so i cannot really judge the writing style as it was translated meaning that some things couldn't be captured in their normal beauty.

On Best Friends and Platonic Relationships

you're a mystery, but one that i’m somehow familiar with. you're a stranger, yet you know me better than myself. you're a poem in an undecipherable dead language , but i understand the meaning regardless. you know me, you understand me, even though we haven't known each other for all that long. how, how, i cannot understand. all i can say is that you're familiar to me, in a way that i cannot explain. you bring me comfort, you make me feel safe, but i’ve never been even ten feet near you. you are, simply, my best friend. my closest one, the one who knows me most. even though i did not initially plan on so, i am immensely grateful that it is you who is this close to me.

Japanese Tales of Mystery and Imagination - a book review

i would like to say, before anything, that this is my favourite book of all time possibly and that this review isn’t long because it’s spoiler-free

i adore edogawa ranpo's writing. i honestly thought that i might be disappointed by his writing as i had really high expectations for it, but it surpassed my expectations. how he creates his mysteries and how he describes everything in such vivid detail that you can see it clearly in your mind's eye is just beautiful. this collection was spectacular and i really liked it. my favourite would have to be the cliff, or the psychological test. i suppose the caterpillar could also be counted as a favourite of mine, though if it was more intense, i could've easily had nightmares. i could explain why i liked those specific stories, but it would spoil them and i'd honestly hate to do that to someone. i think that it would make a lot of sense why i like these ones if someone knew what they're about. either way, i loved this book and i cannot wait to find more of his writing to read.

Lonesome Love - a song analysis

as always, please listen to the song before reading the analysis. i think this song is perfect for an enemies-to-lovers ship, for many reasons that will be revealed within the analysis. ‘so i can win and this can finally end’ the singer is always facing the person that they love, whom they would rather die than confess that they love, and their lover always wins. it shatters them to see it happen, but they cannot really do anything about it, so they do a re-match, then another, and then another. they think that these rematches will help them get rid of their feelings towards their lover, but they later on find out that they’re mistaken. ‘and you say hello, and i lose’ their lover simply greets them, a simple hello, and they already know that they’re going to lose, because they know that they will not ever stop feeling what they feel for their lover and opponent, they will never stop thinking of them, so even if they did win, they wouldn’t reach what they wanted. ‘why am i lonely for lonesome love? why am i lonely?’ the singer is now simply thinking of everything, after losing to their rival and lover once more. they realize how painfully lonely they are, and how they crave to be loved. this song is very sad when you come to realize it-
