Author’s note(s):  - I made the reader for Tsukishima one who tends to want to be alone more - Whilst I made the reader for Tendou usually outgoing and fine until one special occasion

He doesn’t like to probe because he’s got a social battery that tends to run out, too, so he understands completely and knows what it’s like to only want to be left alone and nothing else

Honestly I do too and I’m an extrovert

In fact, he’s got times when he doesn’t want to be around anyone either. He’ll stay away from the rest of the team and listen to music when they’re walking together as a group when that happens

You understood him, and he understood you, in your relationship

So when he asked you if you were up for another study date and you said you just weren’t in the mood, he shrugged it off 

“Okay.” 

He won’t say anything more

Unless it gets to a certain point, you know. Because while staying separated from others is good when it comes to resetting yourself, you shouldn’t stay that way for too long

One time you just didn’t want to be with anyone, even him. You felt like staying at home all day and doing nothing except spend time with yourself.

Oh yes, this boy can be outgoing and cheerful, but as his s/o you came to understand that he’s got times that he needs to be alone, too

Ushijima knows this, and he told you about it when you started dating him- he didn’t mean it as a warning of some sort, it just came up in a casual conversation

“Satori appears energetic and social, but he needs breaks sometimes.” he’d quipped as you and him waited for said redhead to join you outside of the boy’s lockers

“He does?” 

“So if he starts to get distant, it’s best not to bother him too much.” 

“Okay. Hm. I didn’t expect that.” 

And just like he had told you, there was a day that you wanted to have another cuddle session with him but he said,

“Sorry, not today- I’m not in the mood. Maybe tomorrow, love?” 

You understood and answered with “Okay, tomorrow then!” and a kiss to his cheek

You have no clue how much he appreciated that like oh my god 

You see, he always wants to be there for others, like his teammates, even when his social battery runs out. He doesn’t want anyone to get the impression that he’s an introvert so yeah

day 1 of the pick of the patch collab

💌 [summary] you and your boyfriend, kei tsukishima, carve pumpkins together just a few days before halloween. you’re no expert, but he doesn’t have to know that...

“this is so stupid”

your boyfriend’s typical monotone voice grumbled out as a scoop of pumpkin seeds was dropped in the large bowl set in the middle of the table. the noise it made was gross but nostalgic in a way. you rolled your eyes in annoyance despite the huge grin on your face, deep down you knew that he was enjoying himself. kei turned his serious face to meet yours, he was holding back a chuckle, the usual.

“what am i supposed to even cut?”

you grabbed the little booklet of pumpkin designs, “the term is actually carve, dum dum” the sound of thin pages being flipped through filled the vanilla-scented room, “you can pick one of these and poke holes as your guide”

his rough hands were soft taking the poker and book from your much smaller ones, you were the only person to make the kei tsukishima act this softhearted and do these strange things.

as he placed the booklet back down, you picked your carver back up and continued cutting your design. you decided on a small and simple dinosaur to surprise tsuki. there was a comforting silence until you heard, “what happened to poking holes as your guide, genius?”

he playfully nudged towards you and tried to peek at your pumpkin. not wanting him to see the design, you poked back at his chest, “well i happen to be an expert at carving pumpkins.”

your nose was lifted in the air, towards him, and your eyes were closed in confidence. truth was, maybe you weren’t the best at carving pumpkins (definitely not an expert) but that info wasn’t important, “we’ll see about that..”

opening your eyes back up, you saw your boyfriend smirk as he returned to his pumpkin, “what’s that supposed to mean?” you shot back.

he laughed, “oh nothing. why are you getting so anxious, expert?”

there was a smile on his face this time. you and kei’s relationship had always been like this and to be quite honest, you wouldn’t have it any other way. the four-eyed, lanky, blonde, who first teased you years ago when you first met, still teased you to this day.

out of adoration.

“no reason! i think you’re the anxious one!” one of your hands secured your giant pumpkin down as the other continued carving.

a chuckle left kei’s mouth as he picked up the other carver, “we’ll see about that, love”

wanting to finish much quicker than him, you started rushing through your carve. how did it look so easy for him? the knife hadn’t budged once since he started carving!

because you were so focused and concentrating so much on finishing, you hadn’t noticed the pair of dark, but loving, eyes on you. kei had smiled to himself, finding it cute how much you wanted to impress him with your “skills” he was so lucky to have you. you were the only person he could feel this comfortable and vulnerable with.

after noticing his gaze, your cheeks felt hot and your carving knife accidentally cut a bit too far, messing up your design.

the flustered look on your face soon turned into a pouty one, your cheek was then poked at. “aww. what happened, smarty pants?”

clearly frustrated, you turned your pumpkin so that your boyfriend could take a look, “....it was supposed to be a dinosaur.”

barely hearing you over your pouty mumble, he smiled to himself. nothing was said but then his pumpkin was spun around to meet your eyes.

it was your first initial + his and a very small heart (honestly, it probably wasn’t even noticeable from a few feet away)

the disappointed look on your face blossomed into an adorable one, the one where your eyes lit up, the one that kei strived to make happen everyday.

after placing a fake tealight in your and kei’s pumpkin and setting it outside, the two of you changed into warm clothes and were laying together. your body was positioned on top of your boyfriend’s and your eyes were closed in comfort. he softly moved some hair out of your face, “you know.. that wasn’t that bad i guess”

your lips turned into a small curve and you hummed back in response, meaning an “oh really?”

his palm was now resting on your warm cheek, “yeah. i haven’t done that since i was a kid.”

you lifted your weight up a bit and fluttered your eyes back open, his hand was set down from your cheek. you had no clue, it must’ve meant a lot to him (which it did) he rubbed your back with his other hand, signaling you to ease back into him.

you buried your face back into his chest, “can we do this again next year?”

“yeah. just don’t mess it up again, dork”

You watch him push the bike handle left and right, while drawing circles with his right foot. Something about the awkward 187 cm volleyball player acting cute is particularly amusing. It never gets old and you love to tease him just to see how his reactions change. An idea pops into your head.
