@sindarweek Day Seven: Oropher, Thranduil, and Legolas
Couldn't finish Sindar Week without including the Greenwood fam! I don't know the timeline well enough to know if this is just headcanon or plausible, but I like the idea that Oropher got to meet his grandson before he died.
I think Oropher is one of those characters that gets treated a way in fandom. Hell, back in the day so did Thranduil, though, that mostly changed after the Hobbit movies came out.
Anyway, here they are having a nice family moment.
I had a lot of fun exploring the Sindar, I want to revisit these characters more in the future and there are plenty of Sindar elves I didn't get to this week
I'm most of the way the way through art I'd like to post for Imladris Week, and I'm about halfway through a Lords of Gondolin series, so we'll see how long my creativity holds out.
So gorgeous π₯°

Hear! Hear!
π¬ A quick word from the Novlr team
Inspiring and encouraging people to write creatively is something we believe is essential as a society. This is why Novlr was a proud sponsor of NaNoWriMo for many years. Their main November event is one that has got new people writing (including our co-founder Thomas) and got many back into writing again. However, over the last year we've found it more and more difficult to watch some of the decisions the organisation has taken.
After the changes to the organisation and the mishandling of the situation last year, we stopped sponsoring NaNoWriMo to see how the organisation would evolve under its new leadership. Unfortunately, their latest decision to attack those who share extremely valid concerns as to how generative AI will impact creative writing was bizarre and displayed values we can't align with.
Whatever your stance on AI, there is a civil way to have those conversations. To try and brand those who disagree with you as ableist, classist, and racist, shows a disregard for the values many in our community hold dear. We wanted to make clear that we don't share those positions at all. We exist to drive human creativity. We don't - and won't - build generative AI into Novlr.

a non-selective plan for the resurgence of fic commissions

There are many new friends on the archive, and many are young and have only known social media, which is why I wanted to say something!
Ao3 does not have an algorithm! It isn't a social media site, it's an archive.
Posting fics on Tumblr isn't the same as posting fics on Ao3
Ao3 is like a giant virtual bookshelf, and everyone is able to add their own stories to the bookshelf, all stored with different tags and different fandoms. Works are automatically sorted by newest to oldest, but filters, looking at bookmarks, and using the search function can change that.
Certain works are not pushed to the top like social media posts. More kudos and reads don't push a single work to more viewers by some algorithm. Unless otherwise filtered, works will be at the top of the page based on how recent it was posted.
Smaller fandoms get less views, less kudos, less bookmarks, and larger fandoms get more simply because of the number of people inside the fandom.
Ao3 is a giant virtual bookshelf- there is no algorithm, and there is no man behind the shelf pushing certain books forward.
Happy reading, and if you'd like to have more people notice a fic, why not share it with them! Send a dm to a fandom friend and it might turn into one of their favorite fics!
It would be an honour if an artist or anyone do this for one of my fics they like/love π
Reblog if you are a fic writer who welcomes moodboards, playlists, remixes, art and any other type of gift based on your stories.
I would literally owe my life to whoever does this for me
Sad but also beautiful π©·

Oropher and very young Thranduil.
We don't know Thranduil's exact age, so I imagined as Thranduil as an elfling during the fall of Doriath. I just imagined that Oropher was probably with the king at the time of the attack and did everything he could to protect him, but was forced to retreat after the king died. I see him running in panic and horror, fighting his way through the tunnels of the underground city in search of his wife and young son, only to find his son alive.
