“jj?” you called again, your voice slicing through the silence as a loud thud was heard around the corner.

“y/n?” he sounded surprised, eyebrows knitted together before his expression quickly morphed into anger.

his hair was messy with strands sticking to his forehead, dark circles under his eyes.

“i was- w-we were, the pogues, w-were worried about you,” you stuttered out, watching as he shook his head angrily, “you haven’t been answering our calls, a-and, and you just disappeared!”

“and why do you think that?” he spat, eyebrows raising in a sarcastic manor as he waved his hands around.

“i didn’t want anyone to see me- i didn’t want you to see me!”

his words felt like a knife to the gut, scratch that, to the heart.

never in your entire friendship has jj yelled at you like that, yelled at you period. he treated you differently from everyone else, treated you differently from the pogues.

everyone knew, everyone saw. it made them want to snap and yell out, “just shut up and kiss each other!”

“what did i do?” you whispered, only causing jj to get more frustrated by the second. he was practically gnawing on his bottom lip, a bad habit he had picked up along with many others.

“just forget it,” he mumbled, running a hand through his tangled hair before pointing at the door.

“leave.”

his blue eyes narrowed towards your figure, mouth opening to say something but nothing came out.

his voice was thick, tongue like venom as he took a step towards you.

“you need help jj,” you said, frown etching it’s way on your face, “luke is hurting you-”

“stop it!” he practically screamed, hitting the wall next to him, causing you to flinch and step back.

you had never been scared of jj until now. he never gave you a reason to be.

he noticed this, eyes softly dropping and mouth slightly agape, “j-just stop it.”

his voice dropped to a whisper, his once beautiful blue eyes filled with light—gone.

there were tears, threatening to spill and flood his broken face.

“please don’t be afraid of me,” he begged, taking another step towards your small figure as you shook your head.

“i could never be afraid of you, j,” you whispered, which was mostly true. he would never hurt you, his emotions just caught you off guard in the moment.

“i’m not like him.”

“you’re not like him,” you assured, a single tear falling down his face as more prepared to follow.

he shook his head, each shake getting more aggressive as he squeezed his eyes shut, hands coming up to tug at his hair.

“i’m not him.”

“j-” your hand reached out to stop his hand from pulling at his locks, jj catching you off guard as he grabbed your wrist and pulled you into him.

you body collided with his softly, his arms wrapping around your waist as he squeezed you tightly. you stood on your tip toes to loop your arms around his shoulders, letting them find home in your neck as his tears decorated your skin.

“i’m sorry,” he sobbed quietly, breath hot against your neck as you shushed him.
