possibly one of the best people to go book shopping with

simply because he WILL carry all of your books and encourage you to get more just to see you smile

sometimes he tries to read the same book as you but most of the time he just lets you do your thing and reads a different one

makes you book covers ?? i can't imagine it would be difficult for him considering he invented FUNCTIONAL ships and Festus

he's a hobby collector what can i say

he lets you come up with the designs and he just makes them

has and will ask if you like a book character because it reminds you of him

just say yes this man will be heartbroken if you say otherwise..

has probably made a playlist for each book you've read

speaking of which, he has a list of every book you've read, want to read, or have but haven't read

mainly because he doesn't want to buy you a double copy- unless you like have one for annotations

warnings; none ! characters; percy jackson, jason grace, + leo valdez author's note; did i technically write a study date fic already ? yes. did i write it with my big 3 ? no !! also i wrote this during breaks on my AP psych assignments so it's a tad bit wonky.. T^T

PERCY JACKSON -

oh boy.. you guys rarely get any actual work done-

but it's very fun either way !

i feel like he has a self established award system so that for every problem he gets right, he gets a kiss..

which usually just ends in him asking super easy questions he already knows the answer to in order to get one.

"hey, the answer to #5 is y = 7.5 , right ?" "uhh.. yeah ? you've gone over that like five times-" "crazy ! i got the answer right though SOOO"

very ineffective method, but you still fall for it

in the scenario where you do get some work done, it's usually bc both of you procrastinated super hard

(we hate deadlines in his household !!)

anywho, lots of snacks too ! like blueberries, blue cookies his mom made, other various things to yer liking !

amazing with science for whatever reason ??? so go to him for help !!

i give him aaaaa 9.5/10 on the study date scale: only productive when necessary but worth it for the kisses !

JASON GRACE -

the most studious person on earth, literally has never missed a deadline !

except that one time but that's bc demigod stuff

has decent handwriting ??(he was raised by wolves okay :c) but enough that you can share notes with having to decipher anything

really good in english but simply bc latin influences on it

will study for like.. 3 hours straight without breaks so you have to grab him by the ear to relax and drink something other than cold coffee and flat red bull..

takes a crap ton of ap and honors classes it's unbelievable, so def the man to go to for anything !!

ermm classical music or pure silence, no in-between ! unless you play the music which is usually what happens

makes you tea/coffee before hand since it helps him focus so he just assumes it'll help you

not necessarily a study headcanon but if you share classes he ALWAYS partners up with you !

anyways, i got sidetracked 10/10 on the study date scale: very productive evening !

fast and correctly might i add, like it pisses teachers off when he talks on class and is like "oh i already finished !"

makes you dance with him during study breaks :3 doesn't matter how late it is or if yer in the library, yer dancing to whatever music is playing in the earbuds you guys are sharing

if he finishes his work early he either helps you or just.. stares at you longingly ?? very sappy

he also draws all over his notes so good luck trying to read them !

he gets an 12/10 on the study date scale: im bias + i hate math and would kill for this man to help me with it.. T^T

warnings; me hating getting older T^T characters; percy jackson, connor stoll, annabeth chase, + leo valdez author's note; it's that time of year again where i grow up and absolutely DREAD IT. but ! writing this for the sheer joy of it all🩷 my birthday is actually tmrw i just wanted to post this earlier.. may write smth else for the day of.. side note - percy's was sorta based on things im doing for my birthday this year !

PERCY JACKSON -

OOOOO HE LOVES YOUR BIRTHDAY SO MUCH !

like genuinely, he's plotting his moves 5 months in advance !

he usually makes you gifts rather than buying them bc he's a broke high schooler(me too)

not the best crafter in the world, but it's the thought that counts right ?

he also brings you a bouquet of flowers that the Demeter cabin gave to him exclusively for you !

however, if you already have plans then he's 1000% on board !!

oh your going to a Yankees game ? he's already decked out in a jersey and cap. your going to a broadway show ? he's learning the soundtrack already + choreography for some reason

i think he'd take you under water for a little makeshift picnic thingy or maybe out to the docks at midnight

gives you the biggest, fattest birthday kiss EVER. with the addition of fish orchestra play your favorite song !

CONNOR STOLL -

my absolute bias of a man, he would give you everything and more for your birthday which is usually swiped off of someone..

HOWEVER ! i like to believe he'd be a responsible person and actually buy/make you something for your birthday !

on the contrary to percy, i think he'd actually be a really good craftsman ! like he makes you a whole flower bouquet out of paper and you'd hardly be able to tell the difference

he wakes you up at the most unreasonable time so you can "make the most of the day !" as if he has a clue what he has planned

probably peppers your face in kisses to wake you up

or pranks you.. whichever floats your boat !

he goes with the flow and drags you around to all your favorite places and everything like that :3 even if it's somewhere super boring to him like the art gallery

if you're happy, he's thrilled !

also, your birthday cake is probably a chocolate little debbie cupcake with a candle

ANNABETH CHASE -

MY GIRLFRIEND OF THE YEAR EVERYONE, SHE'S GIVING YOU THE BEST BIRTHDAY POSSIBLE.

literally NOBODY is going to be able to out do her for either gifts or experience overall

much like Percy, she's had this planned out for the longest amount of time. like she was planning this after your birthday last year

makes you breakfast in the morning because Chiron is a wee bit biased for her and despite the fact she never really leaned how to cook, it was reallyyyy good !! (she learned how to make your favorite for weeks)

anyways, she brings you breakfast in bed while explaining her whole itinerary of things she had lined up for you

she takes you to all your favorite places + food spots, she gets you pretty much whatever you'd like, and then she took you to a bonfire that night :3

she feels like a love letter writer for some reason, so please expect a handwritten letter on all the things she loves about you and why she appreciates you

maybe asks Ms. Sally Jackson herself to teach her how to bake so you can have your favorite flavor of cake :3c

either that or she buys a box cake mix and you make it together !

Hoo Boys x Reader Headcanons You Come Home Covered In Bruises

Percy Jackson would go batshit insane. Someone is dying. The man would literally kill a god for his friends. He'd sit you down and demand to know who hurt you. Whoever hurt you would be dead. Percy would absolutely make sure you were okay first. If you insisted that no one hurt you, he would threaten to kill a rock or a door or whatever you claimed caused the bruising. No one touches a friend of Percy Jackson. No one especially touches his lover.

Jason Grace would panic. How on Earth could something else be powerful enough to give you that much bruising? He'd stay calm, obviously. But internally, he'd be a wreck. He'd pull you aside and ask you if you were okay. He'd reassure you that no one was mad at you and you weren't going to get in trouble for anything you did. You're safe with him. He'd never be mad at you. He'll find whoever hurt you and try to talk to them peacefully first.He'd try to do things the right, Roman way. Going through the law. But the second they say something rude to him or about you, it's over, no more diplomatic Jason. Whoever touched you would have hell to pay. If you insisted that no one hurt you, and that you had some sort of accident, he'd laugh it off with you. Jason would still be worried, though. He'd make sure you were okay, insisting you go to the infirmary just in case.

Leo Valdez would try to play it off, hoping it was just an accident. How could anything intentionally hurt such a sweet, caring person? Once it hits him that you're genuinely hurt, he's dropping everything to take care of you. There's nothing more important to him than you. You won't be walking anywhere or lifting anything until you are 100% better. He'll definitely have a chat with anyone who hurts you or tries to ask you to do anything more laborious than breathing. And threatening arson. He wouldn't ever actually light anyone on fire, but they don't know that. He'd liter your face with kisses and a gentle one on each individual bruise.

Frank Zhang would drop to his knees when he sees you, taking your hands in his and pressing them to his lips. He'd insist you tell him what happened, his eyes pleading for you to tell him that you're okay. He'd believe whatever you told him instantly, no second thoughts. He'd definitely try to report whoever hurt you, trying to avoid direct conflict. But if he saw someone hurting you, they're getting mauled. He'd defend you until the end. But he'd much rather avoid conflict.

You Leave Camp After Summer Ends

Percy Jackson would be very upset. He would definitely want to go with you. He would try to say that it was too dangerous for you to be on your own, despite knowing that you could absolutely handle yourself. He would insist that he needed to be there with you. He didn't want you to be caught off guard. He had to protect you. But really he just knew that he would fall apart without you for so long. He might even offer to transfer to your school just to mess something up there so bad that no one could go to school there, and you could come back to camp. He'd cry when you left. Percy would send you an Iris Message every chance he got. He wouldn't even look at another person. You're the only one for him.

Jason Grace wouldn't be happy, but he would understand that this was something you had to do. He was raised under incredibly strict rules. He's already used to being away from you for periods of time because he has to travel between camp half blood and camp Jupiter so often. But this is going to be a much more permanent thing. He stays strong in front of you, but once your gone, he feels hopeless. He doesn't want to be apart from you ever, especially not for ten months. He would fly down to visit you, even if taking you out to lunch during the school day is all either of you have time for. He'd make sure to check in on you every single day. He'd ask you about your day in excruciating detail. He's devoted to you. He would wait an eternity to be with you.

Leo Valdez would absolutely be upset. He found someone who would never leave him, and suddenly they're going to be gone for ten months. He'd beg you to take him with you. Even if you said no, he would take Festus and fly to wherever you are, desperate not to lose you. And he would be so sure not to inconvenience you. He has slept in the sewers and he would do it for the rest of his life if it meant he could be with the one he loves. He'd build you a car or a plane so you could come back to camp whenever you wanted. Leo could make a tracking device so if you ever needed him, he could be there in an instant. Anything to keep you as his.

Frank Zhang would be more focused on making sure you were okay. He would ask you if you needed him to help you move back to your hometown, no matter how far away it was. He'd buy you anything you needed. He'd always reassure you that if you needed help with any school work, he'd be there in a heartbeat. He'd talk to you about your day every chance he got. He would want to know about all of your friends and all of the people you disliked. Frank would definitely get lonely without you, but he would push through. He'd visit you any time you asked, but he would always be worried he was encroaching on a different part of your life that wasn't in his. He'd still be very glad that you wanted him there. As long as you were okay and happy, everything would be fine.

You and Leo Valdez certainly weren't alike. You were a tall, sexy, badass with an affinity for combat. There wasn't too many good stories about you, especially due to you never being claimed despite Percy forcing the gods to pay their child support and claim their kids. To newer campers, you were standoffish and scary. Yet, when Leo Valdez arrived with camp along with Piper and Jason, he was absolutely taken with you.

You were confused. He had shown to be a carefree, silly guy. Yet he always wanted to talk to a girl that wasn't often liked at first glance. He was claimed quickly, as many demigods are nowadays. A son of Hephaestus. Not exactly the type of kid that would want to talk to you. A son of the god of the forge and fire constantly trying to make friends with a orphan girl with ice powers and anxiety-induced snowstorms. Quite the pair.

"Hey, Elsa, don't you wanna come watch me at work? I've got a new flamethrower I'm working on that I think you'll find pretty hot."

"It's a flamethrower. I certainly hope it can get hot enough to throw fire. And my name isn't Elsa."

"Whatever you say, hermosa."

"That isn't my name either."

He'd never leave you alone. Sometimes it was comforting. Not many people thought about you like that. Annabeth was too preoccupied with Percy being missing to think about anyone but him. Thalia was gone with the huntresses. Luke, Silena, and many of your other friends died a year prior in the battle of Manhattan. And Nico never stuck around at camp. So you were on your own most of the time. It was nice to have someone who thought of you enough to come bother you everyday. Though sometimes you just needed to be alone.

"What are you doing here all alone, Hermosa? Capture the flag is about to start, you love playing."

"Not a good time, Leo."

"I can't exactly postpone the game, unless you want me to blow up the entire forest."

"I don't care about the game."

"You're making it awfully chilly in here, y'know."

"Then leave."

"Damn, okay. If that's what you want, your wish is my command, your highness."

Then he went on a quest. And you were left at camp. No more crazy fire boy to annoy you. Yet, you thought of him more than you expected to. You kept telling yourself he wasn't thinking of you. He was on a quest, there were a million more important things than the girl he decided to borderline harass everyday. Surely he was more focused on staying alive, right?

Leo hadn't been at camp nearly as long as you had. He did get somewhat of a grip on the whole dying before reaching adulthood thing, but he was used to that. He didn't see quests in the same light you did.

Then when they got back from the quest, and the first thing he did was run up to you, excited to tell you about it. Excited to see you. All the thoughts left your brain. He was an absolute idiot.

"Oh my gods, there's literally so much to tell you."

"You're supposed to debrief-"

"Nah, Jason's got it. Let me tell you about this batshit insane lady I killed."

Unbeknownst to both of you, that batshit insane lady he 'killed' was your mother.

Slowly, you started to laugh at his jokes. You'd sit with him while he built the Argo II in bunker nine. You'd bring him snacks and made sure he slept at least enough to stay alive. It was peaceful, for a short while.

Then they had to go on another quest. Finally retrieving Percy. Stopping Gaea. Potentially saving Nico.

You had to stay at camp. Again. Not your lucky day.

Leo would iris message you almost every day. You weren't used to that. The people you talked to were always at camp, nearby. Then all of a sudden, all of your friends are off saving the world without you. At least Leo cared enough to fill you in on what was going on.

But the seven disagreed on whether or not to save Nico. And that hurt the most. You knew Nico better than most people at camp. You were outcasted because somehow you didn't have a godly parent. And he was the son of Hades. Of course misfits tend to drift towards each other.

You wanted to save Nico more than anything. So you packed your shit and left camp. You stopped accepting iris messages. No one knew where you went.

So when you ran into the seven down at Nico's prison, everyone was shocked. You were convinced they wouldn't come to rescue him. They all thought you dropped off the face of the Earth.

You all got Nico and got the hell out of there. Then you were stuck on the Argo II indefinitely.

Leo built you your own room, right next to his. Not that he ever slept there anyways. You two would stay up all night, keeping him company when he couldn't sleep.

And of course, there had to be encounters with monsters. You really came in handy there. You could just freeze them, and Percy or Jason would shatter them with their swords, sending them straight back to Tartarus. Leo didn't look at you the same way after that.

You two were still best friends, but he always acted like he knew something he didn't want to tell you, especially when you used your powers. And no matter how much pushing you did, he wouldn't tell you.

The anxiety this caused you was immense. Snowstorms would rage outside the ship every time he insisted nothing was off. Hail would knock holes in the ship, which Leo would complain about every time. The ocean underneath you almost froze over. That's when he confronted you.

"Okay, we all know you're doing this. What in Tartarus is this about?"

"Oh my gods, Leo. It's nothing." You used the phrase exactly like he did. Same tone and pausing as him. Every little detail exact. He didn't get the hint.

"Clearly not. I don't know if I should be concerned for you or worried that you're trying to kill us all."

"I am not trying to kill you!"

He took you into his arms, his heat and your cold causing steam to rise from your bodies.

"If you're not trying to kill us, you must be killing yourself. We can't have that."

His heat thawed right through you. The storm outside calmed and the ship passed through the silky water gracefully.

And one night, while you two were up in the engine room way past curfew, he turned to you.

"Y'know, you're actually not as bad as everyone tried to tell me you were."

"Oh. Yeah. The whole unclaimed thing doesn't come across as lightly as it used to, huh?"

"I guess. And for the record, I'd totally claim you. Whoever your godly parent is should be proud to have you as their kid."

"Oh wow, thanks."

"Yeah, sure."

Then he smiled at you with all the warmth in the world. Your entire spirit was set ablaze. You unconsciously leaned towards him, your shoulder brushing against his. The whole world seems to stop spinning. The sound of your heartbeat drowns out the crashing waves and heavy machinery all around you. You and Leo didn't leave the engine room until morning.

Things were different between you two ever since. He'd bring you flowers that were often burnt in his nervousness and he'd allow you to take a break in his room whenever you needed it. And you started calling yourself his girl.

Eventually, he caught on to that.

"What, am I your boyfriend now?"

"Yes, you are."

"Damn, anything to make you happy, hermosa."

And he was yours. No more watching him flirt with every woman that comes his way. Much more being flirted with. Every chance you got, you were by his side. You also noticed he observed you more often. Especially when you used your powers.

"What in Hades has possessed you to look at me like that?" You questioned, having just turned an empusa into an ice sculpture.

"You just- oh shit."

"Valdez?"

"You're an awful lot like Khione. Y'know, the hair, the attitude, the ice powers."

"Oh. Oh shit."

"Could she be...?"

"I guess. If she tried to kill you she's also probably the type of bitch to not claim her kids like she's supposed to."

"What the hell was your dad thinking?"

"The same thing you were thinking when you first met her."

And you and Leo laughed. It wasn't too different. Sure, your mom tried to kill him, but that can't stop Leo Valdez from being yours. Nothing could. Even when he was willing to die to fulfill the prophecy and kill Gaia. The physician's cure brought him back to you. Everything always turned him back to his new home. And the anxiety induced snowstorms almost completely stopped with him by your side.

HOO Boys x Reader Baking

Percy Jackson would make a mess. Flour and blue food coloring everywhere. He would intentionally get it all over you. Especially the icing, so he could lick it off your cheek. His mom taught him how to bake. He doesn’t exactly follow the recipe. Percy won’t measure anything out, just pours the ingredients into the bowl and hoping he gets it right. The cake definitely comes out good, but the amount of blue food coloring will kill your kidneys.

Jason Grace unironically wears a “kiss the cook” apron. He follows the recipe exactly. He’d want everything to be perfect. No mess means no extra work. You wouldn’t even have to do anything. Just sit back and watch him work. His hands stirring the batter. He’d decorate the cake so extravagantly you’d be surprised that he doesn’t bake often. Very edible.

Leo Valdez would make the biggest mess possible and set off the fire alarm. Flour and sugar on the floor. Smoke billowing out of the oven. The blaring fire alarm above your heads. Absolute chaos. He’d be laughing and throwing flour at you. He’s not even looking at a recipe. He’s just putting ingredients in at random. The cake would be soggy with frosting. It’s burnt, but oddly good.

Frank Zhang tries his best. He’s not very good at baking, but he’s doing anything to spend time with you. He’d try to follow the recipe, but make little mistakes here and there. He’d clean up so often that it wouldn’t even look like there was ever a mess. The cake would be good, and very pretty. He’d be so much more grateful to be with you than to have cake.

HOO Boys x Reader Training

Percy Jackson would talk you through it. He’d direct you on where and how to move, demonstrating the best ways to stay alive. He’d slowly start using more force, building up to make sure you could handle it. He’d do anything to avoid hurting you. But he knows he also has to make sure you can keep yourself from getting hurt. He hates having to fight you, but he does it anyways, knowing that if he doesn’t, you might not learn and get injured or die. He can’t always be by your side to protect you. Percy would be gentle with you. You don’t get hurt with him, yet you don’t get hurt with anyone or anything else. As long as you’re safe, he’s happy.

Jason Grace would encourage you to hurt him. Fight back. Attack. He can take it. He’s been through much worse than he imagined you can do to him. He’s one of the best fighters. Period. He’d push you to your breaking point, trying to make you a better fighter, trying to give you a better chance of survival. He’ll exhaust you, hurt you, make you cry, all in hopes that you won’t die in battle. It’s for your own good. Jason would always tend to your wounds and hold you afterwards. He’d make sure you knew he loved you and he just wants you to be safe and happy with him.

Leo Valdez wouldn’t train with you directly. Rather, he’d build mechanical replications of different monsters and set them up to train with you. He’d sit on the sidelines, cheering you on. And of course he’d be flirting with you, commenting on how beautiful you are now matter how exhausted, injured, and sweaty you are. He figures he’s got his fire powers, so he doesn’t need to train. Though he’s always to watch you, and help out.

Frank Zhang would rather supervise you sparring with another person. He doesn’t want to fight with you. You’re a team, you aren’t meant to be on opposing ends of a battle. Why would you ever need to be able to beat him in a duel? He’d watch you to make sure you and the other person were safe. Frank would give you tips to help you improve. Safety first, always. It’s a calm, collected environment. He’d encourage you so much. And he’d buy you food afterwards.

Beautiful Just The Way You Are

Warnings: Leo being insecure of his body and hurt and comfort for Leo.

Leo was confident for most part but sometimes he just couldn't help but compare himself to the other boys at camp.

They were stronger, smarter and had more muscles than he could ever imagine that had the ladies swooning over them.

Now don't get him wrong at the back of his mind he knew that he could give them a run for their money but he just couldn't help but wonder why you wanted him.

His beautiful girlfriend, who was so smart, strong and oh so pretty. You had met him not long after he came to camp after the war, at first you guys were just friends and he was with Calypso.

It all went down hill when Leo and Calypso broke up and you were the only one that could get Leo to have his food. Though he kept up his façade of being the coolest person around you were the only one who saw through his act and could confront him and you were the only one who had seen him cry after his mothers death, that was when he realized that maybe you were the one he wanted.

And it didn't take long after that for him to finally confess to you and you had smiled and told that he had taken long enough and that if he hadn't confessed soon you would have done it yourself. It was then that he realized that he would be happy after all.

Leo knew that the color green never suited him and that he had no reason to be jealous or as he vehemently put "annoyed" by other boys at camp. You knowing him like the back of your hand always assured him that the other boys were just athletic airheads (God forbid Percy or Jason hears this) and that he was way cooler and that she thought it was hot seeing him build things at his bunker.

That had definitely gone to his head and you later found him flexing as he worked around bunker knowing that you were watching as you fondly rolled your eyes and refused to acknowledge the warmth of your cheeks.

All these thoughts were swimming inside his head when he was laying at the infirmary after picking a fight with some Ares kids who saw you as an object of reward and not the smart and powerful demigod that you were.

You had been out the whole week for a quest and were blissfully unware about this and he knew that he would most probably get an earful once you were back.

And you were definitely not happy to seeing him with a bruised eye and a busted lip, but you didn't say anything as you sat at the end of the bed waiting for Leo to explain himself.

You knew that Leo rarely picked fights and you also knew that he wouldn't have done it without any reason so you kept quite as he explained what had happened.

What drew you attention was that at the end he mumbled. "Maybe they are right and that I don't deserve you."

"Leonidas Valdez what makes you possibly think that I don't deserve you?"

Leo started at you wide eyed, sure you guys had your fair share of fights but never had you used his full name before. "T-They are right aren't they, I mean I can't fight like them, I don't makes the girls in Aphrodite cabin swoon over me, they don't even consider me as a compet-"

You didn't let him complete as you pulled him in for a passionate kiss and you only let him go once your lungs were gasping for oxygen.

Leo was wide eyed for the second time that night and it was for an entirely different reason, he had never seen you like this and maybe he liked this new change.

"You listen to me very carefully Leo, you are beautiful just the way you are, with these hands that can fix and build just about anything, that keep me warm when its cold outside, that can cook for me because you and I both know that I most probably would have starved to death without them."

That drew a laugh from both of you and you held his hands as if that were most precious things to ever exist. You then cupped his face delicately as he would with all the trinkets he would make for you at his bunker.

"This beautiful, handsome face that comes with the smart ass mouth that just wouldn't keep shut in the most dangerous of situations, the same that just wouldn't stop assuring and encouraging me when I am feeling down."

You once again pulled him for a kiss but this time it didn't last as long as he wanted it to.

"I love you for who you are Leo, I don't care what others think about you, I know who you are and I am in love with you not them so I want you to promise to me that you wouldn't let anyone's opinion change you."

Leo had a warm an watery smile on his face as he held his pinky, "Pinky promise," he whispered as you grabbed his pinky with yours mirroring the same smile that he had. "Pinky promise".

The two of you giggled as you kissed each other. You suddenly pulled back and Leo noticed a fire in your eyes that he had never seen before.

"You are my man Leo Valdez keep that in mind I don't want anyone to look at you the same way I do, do I make myself clear?"

Leo smiled and gave a salute as he replied, "Yes Ma'am".

You both laughed out as the night was filled with laughter and stories of your quest and before Leo could welcome the sleep he looked down at your sleeping figure with a small smile on his face as he knew that no matter how many insecurities and problems you two would have you both would always be there for each other and that it would be ok.

okay, I know I say that every time I see a girl, but I think this time is for real. she’s perfect--beautiful and completely out of my league, like usual. I was just walking around camp when she walked by. it was like the actual grass parted to make way for her. she had a golden aura and flower petals were flying around her, illuminating her beauty. I wanted to ask for her number, but then I remembered that demigods aren’t supposed to have phones.

percy noticed me staring at her, I guess. he said something about me taking my shot, that she was single and I might as well try. I don’t know if he was joking or not, but I haven’t stopped thinking about her since I saw her this afternoon. at dinner my fork missed my mouth because I was watching her laugh with her friends. I was sitting on the other side of the pavilion, but I still heard her laugh. it was like twinkling bells.

I asked percy for her name: [name]. the word sounds like magic on my tongue. I’ve gotta talk to her soon. maybe she can drop something and I’ll pick it up for her and she’ll fall in love with me. maybe she’ll trip and I’ll dramatically catch her before she falls. I’ll say something nice--maybe “hey angel, did it hurt when you fell from heaven?”--and we’ll fall in love.

okay, I’m getting ahead of myself. the first step to making [name] love me? I’d have to talk to her first.

day two: the failed meeting

leave it to percy to mess up what could’ve been a fairytale romance.

it was better than I could’ve imagined: we were at the arts and crafts station during afternoon free time. I sat as close to [name] as I could, which wasn’t really close because she was sitting with her friends and siblings. a gust of wind blew by--aeolus must’ve liked me today--and a bunch of feathers that [name]’s group was using blew off the table. I jumped out of my seat to pick up a stray feather that had blown to my side of the table. then I tripped over percy’s outstretched foot right in front of everyone.

he swore it wasn’t on purpose. maybe it really wasn’t--percy’s not that big of a jerk--but I was still mad. that was the perfect opportunity to get [name] to notice me. now it’s gone.

day seven: the beginning of something magical

[name] talked to me today!

she didn’t say much--just “excuse me”, because I was blocking her way to the bathroom. but she looked at me! and she smiled a little when she said it!

percy made fun of me relentlessly after that. apparently I had a “dopey smile” on my face. I didn’t even care that he was laughing at me.

this is a new development. she’s finally noticed me.

day twenty: the realization

I think this is serious.

usually after I see a pretty girl, I think about her for a few hours. maybe even a few days if she’s really hot. but now it’s been almost three weeks since I first saw [name], and I still can’t stop thinking about her. she’s talked to me a couple times now, but she still hasn’t paid much attention to me outside of these two-second conversations. she knows my name now--I made sure to tell her--and I’ve made her laugh a few times though, so that’s progress.

I caught myself tapping out her name in morse code today. I do it a lot now, almost as much as I tinker around with my bolts.

day twenty-five: the first big move

I can’t take it anymore.

she’s always on my mind. I can’t think straight when I’m around her. I get this huge smile on my face whenever I think of her. percy’s stopped teasing me; I think he might actually be kind of concerned.

I wrote her a love letter. cheesy, I know, but I didn’t know what else to do. I was originally planning on just going up to her all confident and smoothly ask her out. but when I opened my mouth to hit her with one of my deadly pickup lines, nothing came out. I got more jumpy than usual, and my chest was all warm and fluttery. I was looking at her--gods, her eyes are so pretty--but then it got really hard to keep looking at her, so I looked away. I was painfully aware of myself tinkering with little bolts. she was looking at me with this little smile on her face, as if waiting for me to say something--I had stopped her to talk to her in the first place--but I couldn’t think of what to say. I said something real smart, like “are you the square root of negative one, because you can’t be real.” she looked at me, kinda confused, and I awkwardly slunk away. I’m used to rejection, but this was so much worse.

then I remembered that we’re demigods. [name] probably hadn’t progressed in school to the point where she learned about radicals.

so now here I am with this stupid love letter. I included a little apology for the confusing pickup line. I don’t know how I’ll give it to her. maybe I actually won’t. yeah, that’s probably for the best. this letter is the most serious, most straightforward I’ve been in the last millennia. even though I’m sure by now that she’s a literal angel and probably won’t laugh at me, I don’t want to take any chances. I know what I want to say to her, now it’s just a matter of how I’ll tell her.

day twenty-six: the betrayal (and the win)

I don’t know what in hades’s underpants happened. but [name] got ahold of the letter.

it was percy. it had to have been percy. percy was the only one who knew about my crush.

well, okay, maybe not the only one--apparently everyone in camp knew, even though I hid it really well-- but he’s the only one who’s ever talked to me about it. it had to have been him, there’s no other option.

I’ll have to get him back. but that’ll wait. because [name]--drumroll, please!

she stopped me before breakfast today and asked to talk somewhere in private. I said I’d follow her to the bottom of tartarus. she laughed and led me to the pegasi stables--kind of an odd place, but definitely private.

she was holding the letter in her hands. she said she was really flattered, that my gesture was “really sweet” and nobody had ever done something like this for her. most importantly, she said she liked me too.

now, even though I can be pretty good at talking to girls, I actually don’t have much experience in a relationship--shocking, I know. I’ve had a lot of potential girlfriends before, but nothing’s ever been this serious or gotten this far.

in that moment, I said what might have been the smartest or the dumbest thing in my life: “so are we official now, or do you want me to yell it out to the whole camp?”

she laughed. and next thing I knew, her lips were on my cheek. she pulled away--my face felt hot, and I took a few seconds to make sure I wasn’t actually on fire--and grinned at me. her face was pink too, and she didn’t have makeup on, but she was just about the most beautiful thing I’d ever seen.

“you’re a dork, leo,” she said. “but you don’t have to tell everyone. I’m pretty sure they already know anyway.”

no idea how that could’ve happened. but it seems like I owe percy jackson a thank you now.

Reader holds out their wrist, slightly flushed, but touched by the gesture. but as soon as the metal touches their wrists, visions flash before their eyes-

Leo Valdez had been almost painfully aware of you since he had met you. Like a rock in his shoe he couldn't kick out, always lingering in his head and around camp.

At first, he thought it was just because of how you looked. You were attractive. He wasn't blind. But normally his sad longings for pretty people ended after a few days, but that didn't seem to be the case for you.

He didn't even know why he was so fixated on you, the first time he tried to talk to you, you just rolled your eyes and walked away. And every time after that. Ouch.

So...Leo started watching you. Not in a creepy way, really! Just whenever you were around he found himself paying a extra bit of attention to you.

Quickly, he realized you were like that to just about everyone except your siblings and a small (tiny really) group of people.

He couldn't express how badly he wanted to be in that group.

Then one day, while running to get something for Piper, he found you sitting in the strawberry fields, couched down, hand held out to a small white rabbit.

"C'mon it's alright.." he heard you whisper to it, "C'mon buddy.."

He was frozen, watching you whisper to the small animal. You were so soft. It wasn't like he'd ever seen you before. All of the sudden the rude, off-putting person he thought he knew was gone.

He watched the bunny approach you enough that you raised your hand, letting it sniff you.

And Leo Valdez knew he was done for.

After that, he followed you around like a lost puppy. Trying to talk to you as much as he could- offering to walk you to your cabin after campfire, or leaving his table to talk to you during lunch. Each attempt unsuccessful. Met with eye rolls and scoffs.

but slowly, it became less annoying and more enduring.

you were still snippy, and rude, but all of the sudden, you found yourself letting him trail behind you.

Once, he showed up to the arena when he knew you were training (a bad habit he had) and he found you there... with a giant black hell hound. Your hand behind it's ear.

"Ohhh such-a-good-girl! mhm- yeah- sososo good-"

Leo realized the hell hound was Mrs. O'leary- but there was a moment of prominent panic when he first saw you.

the more time he spent with you, the more he realized how lovey you were animals- all of them.

Racoons that found their way into camp trash cans? you had a new best friend. The black cat that hung around the Hades cabin? he had seen you with it on multiple occasions.

Slowly.. Leo came up with a plan. It was so obvious! Animal lover?? He had a whole dragon! Isn't that like.. the best animal?

So finally after a few days of prodding, he got you to follow him into the woods.

"It's so cool! you'll love it- I promise." He practically bounced though the woods to bunker nine, he talked fast about how you would love It and then, outside the forge..

"Is.. Is that a.." Leo watched as your mouth dropped open.

"this.. is Festus."

"Can.. can I..?" He nodded, watching as you slowly approached the bronze dragon, slowly raising your hand to pet his nuzzle.

It took about thirty seconds before your arms were wrapped around its neck mumbling about how amazing he was. Festus clearly enjoyed the attention, clicking and purring(?), nuzzling into you.

"You like him?"

"How could I not look at this big olde' baby-" and you look up at him. You're smiling wider than he'd ever seen you. You open and close your mouth once before a quiet, "Thank you.. Leo."

He could barely breath.

Maybe you weren't completely in love with him. He could handle that.

In your eyes, the gesture was how Leo showed you he actually cared about you. That he paid attention. Maybe that's why you started sitting by him at campfire, and now he wasn't always the one who started conversations. A friendship bloomed quickly, and your feeling for him even quicker.

and all because of a metal dragon.
