I think people honestly forget that Astarion is a dark romance route when they try to push the abuse narrative for Ascended, and that speaks volumes, louder than anyone who ascends him, if you really think about it. Why are you worried about Ascended if you can't see what's right in front of you long before you have that option? To even get into a relationship with Astarion, you should already acknowledge what you're getting into and what he's pulling.

Dark romance is safely exploring taboo subjects with fiction without ever putting yourself in danger. There will always be inappropriate behavior and toxic mindsets involved. The "I can fix them" concept can fall under this genre due to how toxic it is. The fantasy element is pushed further when beings like vampires are involved, something that does not exist in our world.

Think about it this way, you don't worry about people who enjoy horror/slasher/thriller movies and video games, right? You automatically assume everyone knows murder and stalking and the like is wrong, yeah? Take that mindset and apply it to this. It's no different, really. If you can come away from a horror movie, even one based on true events believing it's just fiction, you can do it for this.

I mean he walks up to Tav, who idk reads. He crosses his legs. Looks like a cat. And then: -- Darling, I've been thinking. I still do not like it. Would you stop it?

There's a conversation where he sulks three times and remembers to have some kind of patience. They find a solution.

Tav who, due to her tragic history, hates herself and hurts herself.

Lord Astarion, who goes nuts over it. His precious treasure... Turns out in the camp she was hiding it or there was so much incident and fatigue around - it wasn't necessary, there was enough pain. Which explained a few things to him, though. That's what it was...

Astarion worries: she's being tormented by something inside that he can't understand, control or somehow end.

Tav doesn't know how to deal with it, either. She worries that he worries. Tav can do what she wants in Faerun if she feels the need to. His spell will still heal her. They dance at the ball, Tav laughs, it's all right. They share all the pleasures in each other's arms. It's a strange unpleasantness might happen once a month.  

Still why did he do not like it so much? It had to be ended somehow.

Gifts, entertainment and his best caresses weren't working. Astarion was hurt that he couldn't solve the problem himself for the only person he cared about.

One day he came up with a compromise that if, he would do it himself with her. He knows body pain, how to inflict it and how to handle it. Or he'll be around.

Tav insisted it was sometimes and she needed some space at times like this. Astarion agreed. And she came to him very often.

So these two vampire have reached an incredible level of trust.

My brother in Lathander, you helped him Ascend. Buddy was in the middle of a blood ritual circle losing his shit and you said "I can fix him but I won't." You knew exactly who he had to kill to get there and you chose to let him. Oh no, in the game where your choices have consequences, your choice has a consequence.

Ascended Astarion isn't even abusive, he's just a pushy dramatic bitch learning how to be a dom instead of being a doormat.

Personally, I'm playing a Dark Urge campaign. I've been murdering people since the game started, and many more pre-game timeline. I am a sadistic masochist who took a brand because I wanted to smell my own flesh burning. I wax poetically about dismembered corpses. I canonically have a dialogue reference to eating dwarves when I was a kid. I'm not entirely sure, but from context I think I might be a necrophiliac. Larian said "let's see how truly awful of a person you can be" and I said "bet."

What I'm saying is, "abused" is not what my Tav feels when Astarion tells him to kneel before he gives him a rough kiss and a lil slap, you feel me
