i think villains in general provide better, more epic romances because they're allowed to go to extremes. they're allowed to put their love over the greater good. they're allowed to be selfish. the best a hero can offer you is number two, because their duty comes first. villains, though. villains will burn down the world for a last kiss goodbye.

It would be funny if it was one joke, but it seems like it's not a joke or there's too much of this joke and it's not funny anymore. It doesn't have to be embarrassing, hilarious, dELuLu, stupid\silly, wrong in general, and in romance, too. He's also Beloved UwU Tiger in romance. And one can even reason beyond the "dogma" of this anon.

I think ascended astarion is very Phantom of the Opera coded imo

I was looking at the Chinese internet the other day. Bili Bili. And there under that scene was a point: Astarion feels comfort during intimacy only with Tav, in either path. He knows that Tav really loves him, treasures him, and cares for him. But the two drow don't.

Which is kind of sad, I wish Astarion was just open and enjoying. Alone, with anyone, learned to enjoy himself the way he wants to. (although it's juicy for a Dark Romance).

Back in the day, I think he was quite the party animal. He still loves debauchery and carnage. I also think he knows how to enjoy lust, the pleasure of lust. From a physical point of view (if not playing ooс) he likes Tav what he's talking about. "You're a vision" etc. But when emotions for Tav came into play, things got complicated. It's not mere lust and manipulation - it's more in any path.

So I took Ascended Astarion to the see the Drow twins. I don't know if it changes anything, but this was after my encounter with the Blood Merchant.

During that visit, I used the dialogue option that was something like, "I know you aren't comfortable around her. You don't have to be here if you don't want to be." To which, Astarion appreciated the gesture but commented he wasn't the same person he was before, and there was no harm in hearing her out.

Later, I went to see the twins since I had to find the toy maker anyway. Got curious and invited Astarion along for the ride. He appeared happy to try out the experience. "I'd like to try out doing things like this again now that I'm free to find my own desires."

What got my attention was without any prompting from Tav he follows up his comment with, "And don't worry, I'll dart out if I don't enjoy it faster than I used to run from the sun." Made me wonder if this was because of my comment about the blood merchant before.

It's like if he felt the need to say that because he knew Tav would be concerned about his comfort. For the most part I feel like he really did want to try the experience from the stand point that Cazador is dead and he's free to go back through his past deeds and sift through them to figure out what was truly something he enjoyed and what was just him performing a role for his survival.

What gets me though is that he didn't dart out despite not appearing to enjoy it at the end. In my version Tav was sitting in his lap and he had a look of intensity. I'm guess he isn't mad at Tav or the Twins. He's mad at himself for still being haunted by the past. He's mad that things like this are still getting to him. Maybe he felt obligated to stick it out until the end.

On the flip side, he could have been unwilling to leave because he didn't want Tav to be left alone with them. Jealousy and maybe insecurity playing a part in it. Part of me wonders if he slipped into his old performance persona just to draw the Drow Twins away from his lover. Some twisted idea to prove he's still the best. To prove he is the best to Tav.

I don't think he'd want to try again. Though, he is probably alright to have found a safe situation where he could experiement with his personal tastes. I'm sure Tav being there was comforting on that front.

Sidenote: So Tav was a Spawn at the time and bit the male drow and the reaction was funny. The guy just comments that he's roleplayed being a vampire many times and bites twice as hard as Tav did.

I also see Astarion really just wanting to keep his relation with Tav between them. Though! I do have an idea for one exception. That may end up in my fic.
