This Was Another Prototype Sketch For A Firbolg Lawful Evil Druid Character For A Campaign That Never

This was another prototype sketch for a firbolg lawful evil Druid character for a campaign that never happened because everyone I played with sucked. Anyways, his name was pilum murialis. The nettle in the darkness or thorn in the darkness. His outfit was made from the silk of giant spiders in the fey wilds, and given its connection to strong fey magic, the wings unfold when strong magic is nearby. Normally it looks like a kind of poncho wrapped up. He wears flexible leather thigh high leggings?? Leg warmers?? And forearm length arm warmers?? And like a leather vest/tank top. I wanted him to look sleek as he primarily acts as an assassin killing humans and others that threaten the green. He doesn’t kill children tho, as children can learn to respect and honor the green. Their parents, not to much.

This was one of a few early attempts at watercolor painting, I had intended to draw a small ball of flame at my finger tip and layer the colors so the flame still had that translucent look to it with smooth color gradients. Yeah, that didn’t happen! The paper I was using said watercolor but clearly not, that shit crinkled up like a Dorito and the colors bled

This is the gorgeous moth wing cape I bought from CostureoroReal on Etsy, you can see all the leaves have been added from even this shit poor angle. I still have more tweaking to do on the helm and hair, the hair isn’t as full as I would’ve liked and some of the helm is crooked. And I don’t like things that aren’t symmetrical, so that’ll have to be fixed. I shall endeavor to record my progress as I go on from this point, for whatever fans I have or gain from these posts. Thanks for viewing!

Ok so I am quite SHITE at like posting content of my materializing endeavors, and crafting binges. My inspiration usually strikes randomly, and I become engrossed in the process and thinking of creative ways around problems. Soooooooo this little guy was teased in my last unload dump, this mask was going to be a part of sword staff. However this mask is small and dinky and the material is super thin and brittle, when I would squeeze it I’d hear cracking sounds. Then again I have orc strength so the mask material might be ok but for me it wasn’t durable enough. The mask is also too small and the straps in the back weren’t the best for wearing it securely, and I plan on turning the mask into a helm with artificial leaves, feathers, and some flowers attached to the “hair/mane” with a sort of cape.
So the steps I didn’t record was basically the complete deconstruction process of that ugly little mask, the ugly small antlers had to go, they weren’t symmetrical. The color is also displeasing, I’m going for a more white sun-bleached bone look. With bigger more sturdy antlers and the back of the skull added, so the mask is a helm. I also wanted to add lower jaw bones and fill out the upper jaw as the mask didn’t have either, I had to outsource the upper and lower jaws with a mask I got from the Halloween section of a store. The plastic was just as shitty, so it was reinforced along with the rest of the mask. I used the same thermal plastic beads to sculpt and extend the jaw, reinforce the whole mask, and attach the jaws and teeth

The second sketch, the wings are open. My background for him was that he was born on Walpurgis night, which is an ill omen to the firbolg (made it up entirely) because the firbolgs born on those nights are clad in raven fur, and are generally evil natured. Which as a Druid in the firbolg community that’s a no no. So on those nights a fey being comes, to whisk those children away to the fey wild to be trained as guardians of the green. They are given a special seed from the fey tree (like the world tree, it’s the magical epicenter for the fey wild and keeps the veil that separates it in place, also completely made up!) this seed then grows into a weapon that can change form, a halberd/spear form with a petrified wood blade, a staff, a sword with hard thorn spikes that rip and tear and later apply poison, and a bow with arrows that sprout from the thorns he breaks off the bow (the bow string is giant spider silk, everything that lives on the tree becomes a part of it in a way. Like king from seven deadly sins who inspired this weapon!) he never received a name from his parents and has never met them. His name came from the fey mother, she raises all the firbolg children. So with no connection to his people or anyone aside from the fey mother and the green, he follows out his orders with no hesitation

This is the blade drawn, it’s basically the top half of the tree. Almost seamlessly disguised, and it fits quite snuggly in the sheath. It won’t come out with a tug or from using it like a walking stick, you have to really pull it out. The hilt is quite heavy now, naturally, and has a guard. The longer handle on this sword lends nicely to the tree look, I didn’t have to add anything to extend the hilt length. I just covered what was there and added the twigs.
You can also see that skull mask, which is a sneak peek into my next project. Antlered deer skull helm, the helm of the horned god Cernunnos. Who is also in the comic I may one day get around to drawing! If anyone knows of a good drawing tablet with a built in screen let me know please, I’ve been looking at reviews but they’re just confusing really
