you have such an aesthetic blog i’m yelling...how is your masterlist so pretty

omg thank you!! honestly i tried really hard to make it look aesthetic because i feel like hufflepuff is kinda revolved around aesthetics?? idk. as for my masterlist i’ve had previous blogs in other fandoms and i honestly just copy pasted it from my old one and rearranged it to fit harry potter. doing it on a computer helps also :)

(tip: anything italicized looks very aesthetic on its own! that’s my secret shh)

word count: 2.2k

pairing: james potter x twin!reader

warnings: angst!!!!

a/n: i lost inspiration halfway through, and forced the rest out. this is a bit different to my normal writing style, and i dont know if i like it. i really just wanted to post something after going mia for a few days.

request: Could you please do a James Potter imagine where he had a twin sister who he was really close to and she was heart broken when he died. And they reunite in the afterlife after she risks her life for Harry when Draco brings the death eaters to the school or something? Please and thanks xxx

-

you sat on your couch, silent tears rolling down your face as your thoughts raced through your head at an ungodly speed. you tried listening, you really did, but everyone’s frantic chatter was drowned out by the sinking feeling in your stomach.

abruptly, you stood up, catching the eye of everyone as you walked casually out of the room, and you made a faint note about how the distant buzz of conversation was suddenly missing as you exited. you didn’t blame them for staring, nor in that moment, did you care.

he was dead. your other half, your twin was dead. the boy who used to pick on your height, chase you around the backyard, the one who helped you up when you fell.

he was dead.

she was too.

your best friend from all those years in school, the one who had a growing hatred for your brother’s annoying, flirty comments he seemed to throw her way daily. she was dead.

james and lily, the two most important people in your life, were dead.

you didn’t know what to do. you cried for them. for james, your twin brother. for lily, your best friend. for their love. for your loss. the person you cried the most for however, was your nephew, harry.

you wanted to take him in, you did. it pained you to do so, but you asked lily’s sister to take him in.

it took some convincing, but after pleading to her about how you wanted him away from the magic community, she agreed. he looked exactly like james, and you knew with time he’d only grow to look more like your missing half.

selfishly, you gave him away to protect yourself. and you ran as far as you could, out of sight, and out of harry’s life.

it was just before the start of harry’s third year when you received a message from remus. over the years of your absence, you’d vaguely kept in contact, you updating him moderately on your locations, only meeting a select few times for a short butterbeer and chat. you never stayed in the same place for too long, for fear of being caught.

ever since you’d lost james and lily, you’d never been the same. always on edge, not trust anyone. except remus.

he was always your favorite of james’ friends, his soft spot for you forming the day you met. he always cared for you like another brother, who brought a different type of comfort than what you had with james.

so when you read the letter he’d sent, you were in complete shock.

dearest y/n,

it is with mixed emotions i write you this letter. i hope you receive it quickly, as the term will begin in the next few weeks. as you know, my condition has prevented me of finding work within the magical community, for reasons i feel i don’t need to explain. not to you, anyways.

professor dumbledore (i suppose it's only appropriate for me to address him as so again) has contacted me, and has offered me a position at hogwarts. i’m beginning as the new defensive against the dark arts teacher at the school this term.

i know what you’re probably thinking reading this; how safe can it be for a school with a werewolf as a professor? trust me, i feel the same way, though dumbledore has once again assured me he will put the same precautions we took as children into my case and ensure the environment is safe for me.

i’m sure you’ve already figured it out at this point, but harry will be attending the school as well and yes, i will be teaching him. i will not mention you if you wish not to, but as much as i’ve been pushing you to be apart of his life y/n, now’s your chance.

i can bring you up, or i can pretend you don’t exist. harry has suffered long enough, he thinks he’s alone in this world and you can change that. sure, he’ll be upset but he won’t hate you.

i won’t pressure you into anything, but i want you to consider it. i just hope through all of this, no matter what you may choose to do, you’ll be happy for me. this opportunity is asking a lot of the school and it is very special to me.

not only for a job, but to finally get to meet harry in person. i’ve been told he’s much like james.. nearly identical. i suppose i’ll see for myself soon enough. write back soon.

wishing you well,

remus.

you inhaled sharply as you folded the letter, placing it down on the counter and leaning back against the cheap armchair sat awkwardly in the corner of your rented motel room. you sighed, pausing before pulling out the photograph you’d taken of yourself, james, and lily in your younger years.

the picture transitioned from the three of you posing, to james shoving you for a stupid joke you’d made, and the three of you laughing happily.

a tear slipped from your eye as you pondered remus’ letter. harry was alone. it made you wonder about petunia, and quickly you realized you really never had checked up on him.

you felt sick with guilt, and in an instant, you’d pulled out your quill and ink and wrote back a simple reply, sending it off with your owl.

hogsmeade first weekend of the school year? need to talk in person.

a few owls and details sorted later, you found yourself sitting in your old booth, anxiously drumming your fingers as memories seemingly swarmed around you.

remus walked in shortly after, and you gave him a tight hug before suggesting he sit. however, he hesitated, nervously shifting on his feet and chewing on his lip; a nervous tick of his, you recalled.

“remus?” you asked, timidly. he offered a nervous smile, before wordlessly walking to the door, hurt washing over you for a moment. he opened the door a crack, beckoning someone to follow him, your eyes widening when you saw the boy walk into the building.

you froze, watching him listen to remus before looking at you, a confused expression on his face.

he sat down across from you, remus waving you goodbye (much to your protest) and leaving you alone with harry.

“uh.. hello. remus said you were another friend of my parents.” harry said, clearly not quite sure why he was here. you let out a shaky breath, shaking his hand.

“uh, something like that, i suppose.” you smiled, “i’m y/n.” it took a couple of odd topics, but after an hour or so, you were comfortably talking. he asked a lot of questions about his parents and you told many stories, and before you knew it he had to leave. “tell remus i said thank you, will you harry?” you asked, brushing yourself off.

“sure thing, y/n. see you around?” he asked, hopeful.

you smiled, “i think you will.”

you and harry met once or twice a month, becoming an annual occurrence. you enjoyed his company, and remus was correct; he was exactly like james. of course, there was one slight issue, and that was that you never told him that you were his aunt.

regrettably so, as now you were so far into a relationship, and you didn’t know how to tell him.

the longer time passed however, and the more the guilt ate at you. every time you saw him, you saw james; and lying to james was one thing you were never able to do.

the next time you saw harry was during one of the last hogsmeade trips of the school year. he’d told you about his classes, and at the end of your session, you nearly said your goodbyes when you stopped him. you nearly backed out, but you owed him this at least.

“harry, there’s something i need to tell you. i should’ve told you sooner but i didn’t know how. i’m sorry for waiting so long.” you told him, tears welling in your eyes.

if he was just like james (which by now, you were certain he was), this was the last time you would see him willingly. harry looked confused, but silently urged you to continue. “i’m not.. i was never james’ friend. i was..” you sighed, letting the tears flow. “i’m his sister. his twin sister.. i’m your aunt.”

those were the last words you spoke to harry. you hadn’t seen him since. the memory of the horror mixed with confusion on his face when you’d told him was forever engraved in your brain, and that was nearly 4 years ago. you still talked to remus and rejoined the order when it came time, but you went back to staying away from the country and went back to travelling.

you went to america for awhile; in your eyes, the farther you were, the less strain it put on harry.

there were days you’d wished you could go back, save harry from that monstrous petunia sooner. you felt like james, wherever he may be, was disappointed in you. you didn’t blame him; you were too.

you couldn’t believe you’d been so selfish, and for it, harry suffered through things a child should never have to worry about. the past was the past however.

the war was coming, and you needed to do your part to help harry win.

voldemort needed to pay for what he did to lily and james all those years ago, and you couldn’t lose harry too. not after everything. you vowed to yourself that no matter what happened, keeping him safe was all that mattered.

curses, hexes and spells were being fired left right and centre as the battle raged on. you weren’t sure how long you’d been fighting, but it had been so long that you were getting tired.

you wouldn’t give up, but you decided to switch to defensive charms rather than offensive spells for the time being, helping the students you saw in danger.

you’d lost sight of harry after his ‘death’ and the recommencement of the war, so now you were scrambling around the castle, helping as you went, but still looking for a certain raven-haired boy.

you saw him on the top floor, face to face with a boy around his age with platinum blonde hair, you’d assumed from the way he was positioned and the way he looked, this was lucius’ son.

harry and the malfoy boy were in the middle of an avid conversation when you saw a figure approaching harry from behind, and you saw the opposing boy’s face change to one of fear as a curse left the deatheater’s lips.

you quickly sprung yourself in front of harry, and as he turned around and watched your body fly in front of his, you heard a faint scream and a curse being fired in the direction of the original spell before you closed your eyes, allowing death to take you with ease.

you’d done what you had to save harry, and you were content with dying in order to protect him.

your eyes fluttered open, frowning in confusion as two figures loomed over you, smiling. you squinted as you faintly made out the long, beautifully flowing fiery red hair of the first figure and the messy mop of raven curls of the second figure. you blinked, not believing what was in front of you.

“lily? james?” you whispered, the two each offering you an arm, helping you to your feet. you stared at them for a moment, before embracing them in a group hug. “i’ve missed you so much.” you sputtered, in shock.

“we missed you too, y/n” lily smiled, though it was bittersweet.

it was at her facial expression that a sinking feeling rose inside of you. “how- how is this possible?” you were blanking, completely oblvious to the situation.

“y/n, you saved him. you died saving him.” james said, quietly. you processed this, suddenly remembering jumping in front of the curse.

“oh.” you muttered, before a sad smile came across your lips. lily sensed the desire to speak to your twin, so with a last hug, she left the two of you to each other’s company. you quickly embraced james in a tight hug, him returning the favour.

“i’m so sorry james.” you were crying now, and he shushed you, pulling you at arm’s length.

“listen to me y/n potter. you have nothing to apologize for. you and i both know if it had been reversed, you would’ve done the same. it’s not my fault he’s exactly like me-” he started, having you slap him lightly, sparking a chuckle.

“i’m not angry. i promise. i could never be disappointed in you, y/n. no matter how hard you try.” a boyish grin overtook his features as you smiled back, gulping.

“i’ve missed you so much james.” you whispered.

“i missed you too.” leaning your head on his shoulder, he gently guided you two to where lily was waiting, ready to start your afterlife; one with both lily and james in it. “what about harry?” you stopped, looking at his parents, who only smiled at each other gently.

“we’ll watch over him still. don’t worry, he’s protected.”

the bet [d.m]

word count: 1.4k

pairing: draco malfoy x female hufflepuff!reader

warnings: underage drinking, implied smut

a/n: this is much more mature than my other pieces, but i got this idea and felt inspired again. would you want me to continue this as a series? let me know in the request box!!

requested: n/a

-

the music blared throughout the hufflepuff common room, the usual homey vibe long gone with the flowing of the various drinks being passed around the room. the glow of different colored lights flashed across the walls, creating an uplifting atmosphere. everyone was in a good mood, so it seemed. a rare occasion, but surprisingly, it did happen.

it was the start of your 5th year, and the first quidditch match had just taken place. ravenclaw and hufflepuff, a (somewhat) fair game and for once, it was a peaceful start to the year. ravenclaw had won, unsurprisingly, but your house was notorious for being good sports and not caring too much about a loss.

it was nice to win, but your morals were more than competition. in turn, due to your house’s nature, it was your turn to host the first post-quidditch party of the year.

ties of all colors could be seen among the crowd, the room packed full of anyone who caught word of the evening’s party. you swore the common room must’ve grown two sizes to fit all these people. you stood silently with ernie, red solo cup in hand, laying against the wall in a far corner.

parties weren’t your thing, but you knew trying to leave was useless for a number of reasons; ernie was your best friend and would never allow it, it was far too loud to sleep, and even so, you knew your roommates were likely having different sorts of fun in your room. the thought caused you to grimace, tuning back into ernie’s judgments as he insulted the students from other houses scattered around the room.

meanwhile, somewhere in the crowd, draco malfoy and blaise zabini were slouched on a couch, their arms slung around some girls they couldn’t be bothered to know the names of.

the two chatted carelessly, one too many drinks flowing through their systems. out of nowhere, theodore nott joined into the conversation, and it took quite a turn.

“draco, you’ve been slacking recently. you chose parkinson, for some unknown reason. you’ve gone for the easiest girl in all of hogwarts, she practically drools over your presence!” he exaggerates, and blaise didn’t even bother trying to stifle his laughter.

“pardon me? you think i’m interested in pansy?” draco asked, eyebrow quirked in curiosity, and mild disgust.

“i never said you were interested in her, mate. you just let her do whatever she pleases with you. why don’t you get yourself a real girl?” theo pushed, smirking as he saw the malfoy boy tense in anger.

“if i wanted a girl, i’d have one, nott. i could get any girl in this school, and we all know it” draco scowled.

“oh yeah? shall we make a bet then?” theo offered, smirking deviously. draco wasn’t at all pleased with the suggestion, but he was never one to back down from a bet.

“now you’re talking.” blaise quipped, leaning forward in interest.

draco rolled his eyes at the idiots he called his best mates, and leaned forward. “what were you thinking, then?”

theo glanced around the room, his eyes dancing across the crowd of girls he knew draco would have no problem getting until they found your small frame. “l/n. get her to go out with you, to be your girlfriend. better yet, to sleep with you.”

had it been any other girl, it wouldn’t be an issue for draco. he would’ve waltzed right over there, flashed a dazzling smile and had the girl swooning over him in mere minutes. however, it was you.

y/n l/n, the quietest and shyest girl in their year. rumor had it, you’d never even been kissed. draco wasn’t sure he’d be able to crack you; you were so different from the kind of people he was used to. however, he was not about to lose a bet, especially not to theodore nott, who always seemed to get under his skin. with that, his decision was set. “you’re on, nott.”

after sealing the deal with a firm handshake, nott had left draco and blaise to their previous activities. at some point during their conversation, the ravenclaw that had found her way into draco’s grasp for the night had managed to disappear, not that he cared in the slightest. his eyes were fixated on a certain yellow-clad female in the corner of the room. he hadn’t seen you speak to a single person besides the boy that had been glued to your side for the entirety of the night.

he only peeled away his gaze when he felt a hand grasp his arm. “mate, you done staring at her yet?” blaise chirped, causing the platinum blonde boy to roll his eyes.

“i wasn’t staring zabini, i was merely planning how to approach her.” at this, his friend chuckled and shook his head.

“why in the hell did you agree to this, by the way? you know all about l/n. she wouldn’t hurt a fly, and you’re one of the most hated students in the entire castle. in what world do you think she’d go for someone like you?” at this point blaise was practically doubled over in laughter, while draco’s expression only held annoyance.

“it won’t be an issue.” he stated, his eyes drifting over your figure one more time.

“well, are you going to even talk to her? you won’t prove nott wrong by hanging out here.” with a sigh and a slight eye roll, draco stood and made his way over to you.

you knew of draco malfoy and his reputation. he was nothing but bad news; a bully to all he came in contact with, and an overall jerk, especially when it came to the romantic field. you weren’t the gossip type, but rumors spread like wildfire in the hogwarts castle, especially those pertaining to the ‘slytherin prince’.

before him, you were never one to judge a character based off a few rumors, but day after day you heard new stories, and your mind had unwillingly created a set image of the boy. it wasn’t the worst thing in the world, however, since you by no means had ever talked to him (besides the occasional comment in a classroom), nor did you plan to.

so when he approached you, his robes swaying with every step, you were taken aback. “hello there, gorgeous” he spoke, and your jaw dropped instantly. you hear ernie choke on his drink in surprise, not bothering to hide his amusement.

“excuse me?” you muttered, a small blush rising to your cheeks at the unexpected compliment.

“i think you know exactly what i said, l/n.” he winked, and you almost gagged on the spot. sure, he was attractive; you wouldn’t deny that. but if he thought there was any way he was getting to you, he was surely mistaken.

“yes, i’m well aware of what you said, malfoy. i’m simply wondering why you felt the need to say it in the first place.” you spoke with a newfound confidence, the initial shock of his flirting wearing off and the small amount of firewhisky in your veins taking over your better judgment.

draco looked stunned; you could tell rejection was something he was not used to. “cat got your tongue?” you were smirking now, as draco regained his composure. “look malfoy, i’m not interested in your little game, so you can leave now.” at this, you turned back to ernie, who was on the floor laughing.

draco frowned, marching back to blaise and flopping back down on the couch. the other boy, who had watched the entire situation unfold from a distance, was in nearly the same state as ernie. “mate, you’re fucked. there’s no way you can possibly win this.” draco scowled at him, though blaise played no mind to it.

“just you wait, blaise. if you think i’m giving up this easily, you really don’t know me at all.” once he caught his breath, zabini looked at him curiously.

“she just flat out rejected you, and you think you can come back from that?” he jerked his thumb in your direction, where you stood laughing with ernie, as if nothing had even happened. draco’s blood boiled.

“i don’t lose bets, zabini. just because she wasn’t interested in me the first time, doesn’t mean she can resist me. she’s.. different. and i have a plan.” with determination set on his features, draco took a long swig of his drink, finishing the cup.

“for tonight, however, i may have taken a loss. but mark my words, by the end of this year, y/n l/n will be mine.”

request: Can I request something where it’s DracoX!femreader and she is friends with Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Draco but Draco gets jealous when he sees her talking, laughing and just hanging out with them. Maybe Harry or Ron finally does something that sets Draco off? (submitted by @buckys-hoeee)

-

not a lot of things bothered draco malfoy. he was a pureblood slytherin who everyone knew and was scared of. he was titled the slytherin prince for godric’s sake. he had everything he wanted and more all to himself. that was everything, with the exception of you.

you were one of the most beautiful people draco malfoy had ever seen. you were a pureblood, just like him, though you were in another house. your house meant nothing to him at this point though, it was the people you’d chosen to associate yourself with that set him off.

the ‘golden trio’ of hogwarts, they called themselves; hermione granger, ron wealsey and his biggest rival, harry potter. the thought boiled his blood.

you weren’t like the other students at hogwarts. you didn’t swoon over him, but you didn’t despise him either. you were different.

you treated him like a genuine person, a friend even, and that is what really caught him. he wasn’t thought of as a monster to you. he was simply draco malfoy. you didn’t care about status or houses. you were perfect.

which is also why draco didn’t deserve you. he knew this. you were happy with your friends, as much as he hated the trio, seeing you happy made everything okay. you would hang out with him alone; usually your hangouts consisted of late nights watching the stars from the astronomy tower, and that was enough for him.

it was a long last few weeks at hogwarts, students left and right running around, cramming as much knowledge into their heads as they could before the commencement of o.w.l.s and n.e.w.t.s. draco had felt like his entire week had consisted of rereading books and notes and he felt as if his head was about to explode.

he hadn’t seen you in a few days, so he decided to see if he could find you. he knew some of your favourite spots, so he threw his books in his bag and ventured off into the castle to track down his friend.

he searched the library first, as it was your go-to studying place, but after searching the entire library (it was quite full) he realized you weren’t there. he checked your common room next, asking if anyone had seen you, only to yet again be found with nothing but your confused housemates.

he then checked the great hall, the courtyard, and the black lake. he’d checked all of your favourite spots, and you were nowhere to be found. “where are they..?” he wondered out loud, thinking hard. there was only one last spot he could think of.

he looked up at the long staircase leading up to the astronomy tower, and as he began his ascent, he heard multiple voices, confusion washing over him. he hadn’t ever seen anyone else up in the tower. he almost left when he heard your laugh. he smiled, until he listened closer and could make out the other voices.

“how am i supposed to know all this? bloody hell i can barely remember where i’ve left my wand!” weasley exclaimed, exasperated.

“ron, if you actually paid attention you wouldn’t have this problem!” granger replied.

“we’ve been studying for hours, hermione! can’t we do something else?” potter asked, clearly bored. draco had had enough. had you really taken them to your shared spot? he marched up the steps, scaring the four wizards at the top.

“how could you bring them here?” he yelled, taking you aback.

“draco, what are you talking about?” you asked, clearly confused. he looked around at the trio; at his enemies, and scoffed. he turned on his heel and stormed off down the stairs.

he could hear you chasing after him, but chose to ignore it as he ran back to his common room. just as he stopped at the portrait, a hand grabbed his arm and pulled him back, shoving him into a storage closet and closing the door behind him.

“what the hell-” he spat, before a hand covered his mouth. after a moment his eyes adjusted to the dark light in the closet and he found himself alone with you, not to his surprise.

a small blush rose to his cheeks at your proximity, but much to his delight, it was much too dark for you to notice. he quickly remembered why he was in this situation and tried to push past you, only to be pushed back.

“you’re not leaving until you answer my question. why were you so upset up in the astronomy tower?” draco looked at his feet, unable to make eye contact. “draco.” you pushed, hearing him sigh. “you can’t just ignore me-”

“fine, alright?” he cut you off, “i haven’t seen you in days y/n, you’ve been too busy studying or hanging out with.. potter.” he spat, an unusually venomous tone leaving his lips. you opened their mouth to speak, but he wasn’t finished.

“all i wanted was to spend some time with you. i searched the entire school; only to find out you’ve taken them to our spot? how could you do this to me?” he breathed, his hurt obvious, tinged with another emotion he couldn’t make out.

an awkward silence followed, neither of the two knowing what to say. “i didn’t know it meant so much to you, draco.” you started, slowly. “i really am sorry. i won’t take them up there again.” you offered an apologetic smile, and he forced a smile back, ready to leave. before he could though, you spoke again.

“you don’t have to answer, but.. may i ask why it means so much to you?” at this, draco froze. he wanted to say it was because of potter, but he knew it wasn’t true. and he knew you did too.

“well.. if you haven’t noticed, not a lot of people.. like me. they fear me. they hate me.” he spilled, avoiding meeting your gaze. “but you.. you never hated me. i may put up a strong front, but it was nice to find someone to talk to without worrying about titles, or blood status.”

you listened intently, focusing on every word. “once i saw you with potter and weasley in our spot.. it just made me feel so angry and betrayed. i don’t know.” he finished, the awkward feeling of confession weighing on him like a ton of bricks.

it was quiet, much too quiet for his liking, and he reached for the doorknob to leave. however, you took his hand in yours, and turned him to face you. you hesitated, choosing your words carefully, before you spoke. “draco, were you jealous? of me spending time with harry, ron and hermione?”

he looked you in the eyes, seeing nothing but sympathy and genuine interest, before his gaze met the floor. you sighed, grasping his chin lightly and moving his gaze to yours. “i am sorry. really. i never meant to make you feel like this. i promise i’ll make it up to you.” you smiled, and he felt himself smiling as well.

you gently opened the closet door, stepping out. you paused, turning around to face him, and in a split second, you stepped up, kissing him on the cheek. “goodnight draco.” with that, you scurried off, leaving him standing there grinning like an idiot and speechless.

he blinked, before closing the closet and going straight to his dorm. he gently touched his cheek where your lips met his skin, a soft smile plastered on his lips. one reserved just for you.

“mate, what are you smiling about?” blaise asked, a sleepy and amused expression on his face.

“nothing zabini, go back to sleep.” draco snapped jokingly, flopping down on his bed with one person on his mind. ‘y/n l/n.. what are you doing to me?’

hate (?) [d.m]

pairing: draco malfoy x reader

warnings: minor swearing

-

“dammit!” you whisper-yelled, rummaging through your trunk as you scrambled to get dressed. “where the hell is my wand?!” it was nearly time for class; you were supposed to attend breakfast 30 minutes prior but you’d stayed up particularly late finishing an essay that was due.

you nearly gave up all hope when you looked up and saw your wand exactly where you left it, sat neatly on your bedside table. you snatched it and literally ran out of the dorms and to the potions classroom.

breathing a sigh of relief, you fixed your tie as you joined the sea of students heading into the room. you were lucky that your common room was in the dungeons, or you would’ve been late. not that it really mattered, snape would’ve let you off anyways.

you took your normal seat next to your best friend theodore nott, who’d laughed at your disheveled and out of breath state. “you got lucky.” he whispered, as snape made his room, and you gently slapped theo’s shoulder, light laughter coming from you both as you settled into your seats.

“due to some.. reckless and unacceptable behavior..” he glared at some gryffindors. “...i will be reassigning partners.” snape drawled, causing the room to groan.

“silence! move to your new seats once i announce your partners. do not bother to complain, i will not be making alternative arrangements.” you and theo frowned as names were called out, “potter and longbottom.” “parkinson and nott.” “malfoy and l/n.”

you paused, hoping it wasn’t true. you looked at theo, and due to the apologetic look on his face, you knew you’d heard right.

draco malfoy was your new potions partner. you glanced over to see him packing up his bag to move next to you. he didn’t look at all pleased, and you were sure you looked the same.

to put it simply, you and draco didn’t get along. it all began in your first year, when the two of you were neck and neck for top student in slytherin. ever since, the two of you had formed a rivalry of sorts and a growing hatred for the other. you couldn’t spend five minutes next to each other without an insult being thrown.

this was going to be interesting.

draco sat down, saying nothing and keeping his eyes forward. you sighed quietly and did the same. snape continued on with his lesson, eventually assigning the task and letting you get to work. he turned to you, “let’s just get this done, yeah?” nodding silently, you both claimed certain tasks and got to work.

it wasn’t long before you finished the potion, bottling it up and handing it into snape. “you see students, this is what it looks like when you actually follow what is said and make it right.” snape announced, causing some eyerolls amongst the room. “10 points to slytherin. you two are dismissed.”

you smirked, clearly enjoying the praise and gathered your things. with a quick wave to theo, you left the room, draco following behind you. silence filled the hall as you both made your way back to the common room.

you had to admit, you were surprised the two of you worked so well together considering your history. “you know, malfoy..” you both stopped at the sound of your voice, and he looked at you with a raised eyebrow. “you don’t make a half bad partner.” you said lightly, taking him by surprise, before sending him a smirk. “for a moment there, i’d almost say you were better than me. almost.” he scoffed, rolling his eyes.

“oh please l/n, we both know who’s the better potion-maker here.” he shot back, his infamous smirk plastered on his face.

you looked at him up and down, “glad we agree then. i’m much better than you are.” you shot him a wink, quickly muttering the password to the portrait and stepping inside the room.

you were both aware he was much more advanced in potions, but you had dug yourself in now and you had much too much pride to give up now. “is that so? if i’m not mistaken, last week you nearly added rat spleens to your swelling solution rather than bat spleens!”

you turned to face him as you shot back, “in my defense, my book was smudged and-” but before you could finish your sentence, your body collided with his and you would’ve been knocked over completely had he not reached out and caught you.

the two of you stood in shock for a moment as you regained your balance, looking up at him and opening your mouth to say something, but you closed it again as no words came to mind. you two made eye contact and froze, before you both began leaning in slowly. to your luck, just before your lips touched, the door to the common room began opening and the two of you jumped apart.

the room quickly flooded with students, and without even looking at you, draco grabbed his books and joined his friends, acting as if nothing happened. you shook your head as you saw terry approaching you.

“how was potions with malfoy?” he asked, an expression of humor on his face. “it was fine. i managed.” you said, laughing along with him.

however, you weren’t managing well. you couldn’t stop thinking about your ‘moment’ for the rest of the day. laying in your bed that night, he was the only thing on your mind.

‘was he really going to kiss me?’ ‘was i really going to kiss him??’ ‘do i fancy draco malfoy?’ your thoughts and heart were racing. earlier that morning, you would’ve laughed at the idea of you and draco having a tolerable relationship. you’d hated the bloke. now, you weren’t sure that would be so bad. how could one action change your entire view on someone?

as you closed your eyes and drifted into a deep sleep, the only thing you were sure of was that you definitely didn’t hate draco malfoy.
