you were sitting in the hufflepuff common room, your homework sprawled out in front of you, though it was long forgotten as your gaze was set intently on the flames burning brightly in front of you.
you were meant to meet your boyfriend, cedric, in the common room an hour ago so he could help you with a potions essay you were particularly struggling with.
with a sigh, you finally tore your gaze from the beautiful fire, a last glance shooting around the common room in search of the boy before giving up and packing up your supplies.
recently, you hadn’t seen much of him. he was currently in his seventh year, a year above you, and he had been swarmed with his duties as a prefect. not to mention he also happened to be fighting in the legendary triwizard tournament as the hogwarts champion, but that wasn’t something you were too fond of.
as his partner, you worried for the boy’s life, knowing well that it was more than possible he came out dead. it didn’t seem to stop him though, and rather than fighting, you chose to support him as best you could (though you did still express your concerns to him privately.)
of course, you didn’t blame him for struggling to find time for you recently. he had quite a full plate, and he was doing amazing at balancing it all. you knew if he could find time for you, he would. he only had two tasks left, and then the two of you could go back to the way things were.
you couldn’t wait for that day, as with every passing day, a feeling of dread worsened as each task grew nearer.
you decided instead to head to the library, knowing you’d find much more quiet there than elsewhere. you spotted hermione, and smiled kindly at her, asking if you could sit with her, knowing full well that the two of you would actually get something done.
she agreed, and you two worked quietly, her managing to help you with the essay your boyfriend was supposed to assist you with. still, hermione was incredibly bright for her age, and had no problem helping.
you worked hard for some time before a first year came bounding into the library, eyes landing on your figure and made his way over.
“excuse me?” he piped, catching both yours and hermione’s attention. “professor dumbledore would like to see you both!” he exclaimed, and you and the girl across from you exchanged confused looks before shrugging and putting your supplies in your bags, thanking the first year and watching him scurry off.
“strange. i wonder what he wants from us?” you spoke, though hermione didn’t answer, as she was just as confused.
you both made your way to dumbledore’s office, seeing the door already open. you climbed the stairs, stepping into his office. you saw ron and a small blonde girl who looked almost identical to fleur in there already, and suddenly you realized this must be for the next task.
you stepped into line with the other two, taking in a sharp breath as you stared at the back of dumbledore’s chair. he briskly turned around, standing in front of the four of you.
“i’m sure you’re all wondering why i brought you here.” you all nodded, “you’re here because you all are of great importance to the champions. i promise, this won’t hurt a bit.” before any of you could respond, everything went black.
cedric searched frantically for his girlfriend, cursing himself for sleeping through their study date. everything had been so much for him, he had been absolutely exhausted and thought taking a small nap would do him good, only one hour turned to three and he had only woken up to see an empty common room.
he asked around, only receiving shrugs in turn from his fellow housemates, meaning she must not have been around for some time. he frowned, guilt flooding his being as he realized he stood her up, again.
he checked her usual hangouts; the library, the courtyard, the great hall. he even found several friends, and seemingly no one had seen her for hours. this worried him, as you knew many people throughout the castle and were always around.
after searching over what felt like the entire school grounds, he retreated back to his common room, flooded with guilt and sadness. as much as he wanted to find you, he had the second task tomorrow, and he promised himself he’d catch you in the morning before he had to leave.
the next morning, he sat in the great hall, his eyes scanning the waves of students in a desperate attempt to find you, though something told him he wasn’t going to be seeing you before the second task.
“mate, you’ve got to eat.” his friend told him, smiling sympathetically, knowing the pain he was enduring. cedric frowned, but did as told. he was the hogwarts champion after all, and though he would much prefer to spend his time looking for you, he knew he had a responsibility and was going to do his best. for you, if anything. maybe then his actions would have some sort of justification.
the excuse sounded lame even in his own head.
the time for the task came much faster than cedric would’ve liked, and he stood with the other three champions, facing the great lake. now standing before it, about to jump in and being so unsure of what to expect, he felt a shiver run down his spine.
it no longer seemed like the warming lake he once thought it to be. it seemed murky, mysterious. scary, even. still, he took a deep breath, readying himself, as did those beside him. he cast a charm upon himself just before the horn blew, and he dove into the dark waters.
when he finally arrived at the merpeople’s village, he froze in shock. there you were, beautiful as ever, your ankle gently tied and holding you down under the water. he quickly shook himself out of his thoughts, nodding to harry who had already arrived, before shooting a spell at the rope and cutting you loose, pulling you to the surface.
you gasped for air, your eyes shooting open and the sound of cheering filled your ears. you turned, looking at cedric, who was smiling down proudly at you. you smiled softly back, and the two of you made your way over to the platform, receiving towels to fight the freezing wind blowing against your soaked clothing.
cedric was being congratulated by students, so you decided to find a quiet place to sit, on the other edge of the platform away from everyone. you smiled, watching cedric’s face light up when he was told he was in first place.
cedric finally managed to slip away from the crowd, making his way over to you. a guilty smile was present on his face, and he looked at you hopefully.
“i don’t suppose you have a minute?” he teased, though you could tell he was nervous by the shake in his voice.
“of course.” you answered, gesturing for him to sit next to you.
he did so, and the two of you sat in silence for a moment before he spoke, “look, y/n. i just wanted to apologize.” you turned to him, a questioning expression on your face.
“for..?” he sighed, running a hand through his wet hair.
“for missing our date.. again.”
you smiled sadly, but forced a more convincing one. “it’s fine, cedric, really-” you tried, but he put a hand up to stop you.
“it’s not fine, y/n. we’ve barely spoken these past weeks about anything other than the tournament, and it’s my fault. i’ve been so busy that i’ve been neglecting you and our relationship. it’s not an excuse, i know. i’m going to make it up to you, if you’ll let me.”
you were speechless, and didn’t know how to respond. everything he said was true, you couldn’t deny it, and a part of you didn’t want to. you were glad he came to his senses.
you smiled, genuinely, and pressed a small kiss to his cheek. “i’d love that.” he lifted an arm, allowing you to move closer to him, resting your head on his shoulder.
he wrapped his arm tightly around your shoulder, and the two of you sat peacefully.
the task ended, and the students quickly filed out of the stands, but the two of you sat unmoving, catching up about everything and anything, other than the tournament of course. you two had had more than enough with that.
you ended up staying long after everyone else, the two of you simply enjoy one another’s company. cedric never took his eyes off you, and gave you his full attention. and this, you realized, was what you missed most about him.
from then on, he promised to always make time for you until the day he died, and that he did. only that day came much sooner than he had planned.

a sigh escaped your lips as you rummaged through the old box you had stored in your bedroom. you had just arrived home after the end of your 7th year term, and you were sorting your things. the war was finally over, and finally for once in your life, things had started to feel almost normal.
you were just getting through your final year, you did have to repeat it due to the horrors of your last year, where every corner you’d find a curse waiting to be thrown at you. you finished your exams with the grades you tried so hard to get and were happy with how things had gone.
until you received an owl a few days before you were due to return home, that you and your family were to move to america within the coming weeks. you hadn’t wanted to leave, but your parents assured you that leaving would be best for you, with all the traumatic experiences you’d faced.
you lost the only person you loved in the war, yes, but you were managing well, with the help of your best and closest friends. you didn’t know how you would survive without them.
besides that, you had grown up in england, in this very house, and with every bit of decoration being placed in various boxes, you felt your childhood being picked apart piece by piece.
it was hard for you, having had some of your best memories in the old building. which is why when you stumbled upon a dusty, yet distinguishable box you vividly recalled, you couldn’t pull yourself from the urge to go through it.
you pulled the box with you as you sat on the edge of your bed, gently lifting the lid and smiling as your eyes glanced over the contents. it was filled with polaroid pictures; a camera that was gifted from your muggle aunt, that you forced him to take pictures of you both with on multiple occasions.
you ran your hand gently over the pile, your hand grazing a random one and picking it up, smiling fondly as you reminisced.
---
an 11 year-old version of yourself stood shakily in front of the brick wall, your heart racing. your mother ran briskly behind you, catching up to your small form quickly. glancing at her wrist, your mother cursed under her breath and grabbed your wrist, pulling you without warning through the passage to what would be your new home.
the platform was quite intimidating, parents and children running here and there, scrambling to get onto the train. you bid your mother goodbye, and without much protest, found your way onto the train.
being a first year student was hard, and you wanted to find yourself an empty compartment, rather than having to ask someone to sit with them and risk rejection. you found one quickly, pulling out your camera and a book and throwing your case above, relaxing in the seat.
your silence was only interrupted by the door flying open, and two identical redheaded boys who looked a few years older than you, sat down in front of you. you blinked in shock, when one of the two reached out a hand to you.
“fred weasley. this is my brother, george. we’re third years. mind if we join you?” you took a second, before hesitantly taking his hand and shaking it, followed by george’s.
“y/n l/n.”
“say, what’s that?” george piped up, pointing to the polaroid sitting next to you.
“it’s my camera, see!” you spoke enthusiastically, the pride of your camera overwhelming you. they seemed intrigued, so after a quick explanation, fred spoke up.
“could we take a picture together?” you looked at him, making sure he wasn’t messing around or making fun of you, but he seemed genuine. you smiled, agreeing. you slipped in between the two twins, fred taking the camera due to his longer arm, and you all posed as he snapped the picture.
a single tear slid down your cheek as you took in the memory, taking in a deep breath. that was only the first of many interactions you had with the weasley twins. a sad, yet meaningful chuckle escaped your lips.
if only you had known back then how important those boys were going to be in your life, you would’ve gotten to know them better right then and there. sure, they were three years older than you, but they acted as though they were three younger.
laying the polaroid on your bed, you fished out another one. a picture of you, angelina, fred, harry and george; harry on george and fred’s shoulders, you tucked under fred’s free arm and angelina tucked under george’s.
---
you swiftly caught the quaffle, weaving your way through opposing players and an occasional bludger, the wind whipping gracefully through your hair. you caught sight of angelina, a fellow chaser, with an open shot, yet was undetected by the ravenclaws seemingly swarming you.
with a quick dip and sharp turn of your broom, you effectively distracted your pursuers, easily throwing the quaffle to angelina, allowing her to score. this went on for another twenty or so minutes, before you finally heard the announcer call that harry had caught the snitch.
you all landed cheering, meeting your team in the middle of the field and embracing one another. you saw ron and hermione running up to you, your polaroid clutched tightly in hermione’s hands.
as oliver gave his typical gloating speech and dismissed the team, hermione quickly called you all over to take a picture. the two gingers swiftly lifted up the chosen boy, and were quick to grab you and angelina as well, all of you smiling as hermione took the picture.
she waited a few moments for it to process, looking at it with pride. you slid out of fred’s arm to collect the picture, pretending to judge it.
“it’s perfect.” you affirmed. she beamed, and you glanced at up at your friends, exchanging smiles, and one noticeably larger smile to a special someone.
it was the simple memories like this that were your favourite. you didn’t need to worry about harry, ron or hermione getting themselves into trouble with the dark lord, these moments were the very few normal times where you could all just pretend there wasn’t a war looming over you, ready to happen at any given moment.
you smiled, sorting through the rest of the polaroids until one in particular made your heart stop. you handled it with great delicacy, the tears now freely flowing as you looked at the beautiful image.
---
you stood anxiously in your mirror, twisting and twirling in front of it in a feeble attempt to gain confidence. it didn’t work however, and you let out a frustrated sigh. hermione peeked her head out from the bathroom, giggling when she saw the state you were in.
“y/n, you look amazing. stop worrying so much!”
you frowned at her, “hermione, look at you, then look at me! i don’t even compare.” you huffed, and she sighed.
“you know that’s not true, and besides, fred is going to love it.”
at this, you tensed. “hermione, we’re just friends.” you muttered, your cheeks flushing. the original plan had been for you to go as friends along with george, but he’d finally mustered up the courage to ask out angelina.
instead of letting it get to you, you and fred agreed to go just the two of you.
specified only as friends, of course. which meant it wasn’t a date, but hermione seemed to not be able to get this idea out of her head. “mhm.” she waved you off, re-entering the bathroom to finish off her look for the extravagant night.
when you were both finally ready, you stepped down the stairs together, giggling as excitement bubbled in your chest. hermione was meeting krum at the entrance to the ball, so you told fred to meet you there as well.
together, you made your way to your dates, and a foreign feeling of nerves washed over you as you quietly replayed hermione’s words in your head. you bit your lip as you turned the corner, smiling as your eyes landed on your not-date for the night.
stepping down the stairs, you had been a nervous wreck. only an hour later, you and fred were having the time of your life, dancing and singing to your hearts’ content.
it was like time had stopped around you, and that you two were the only ones who were there. you were in your own little bubble and you were on cloud nine. it was only in your last slow dance, that he kissed you for the first time. it wasn’t necessarily like the movies would show it, but it was perfect.
colin creevy found you the next day, handing you a perfectly taken polaroid of you and fred. it was during your special slow dance, you both gazing lovingly into each other’s eyes, moments before he leaned in. it looked as though you had posed for the picture, you couldn’t have loved the photo more.
it conveyed so much emotion, every unspoken word between you was portrayed. it was love, and anyone could see that. (you even loved it so much, you decided for once, to let it slide that the younger boy had been taking pictures of you without your knowledge in the first place.)
so as you sat on your bed, crying every last tear as sobs wracked your body, you couldn’t help but feel the ghost of his arms around you. every comforting word he ever spoke echoed in your mind.
“it’s okay, love.” “everything is going to be alright.” “i love you, forever.”
it was scary, really. you could’ve sworn he was right there next to you. but he wasn’t, and he was never going to be. he was gone; you were never going to see him again and you had to accept that.
you gently placed the polaroids back into the box, painfully swallowing as you packed it away with the rest of your things. you glanced around the almost empty bedroom you’d spent so many nights lying in his arms, or thinking about him; and suddenly, the thought of leaving didn’t seem so bad after all.

a/n: italicized text = flashback / really happy with this one!
request: Can you do a James Potter imagine where he was best friends with a girl for his whole life and Lily is jealous of their relationship so he breaks off their friendship, and the marauders are all super mad. And then he sees her with other people and regrets everything please? I love the imagines you’ve done so far x (requested by anon)
-
you watched him with her, sitting across from each other at the gryffindor table, laughing together. they looked happy. he looked happy. that’s all that ever mattered to you. if his happiness meant you were no longer a part of his life, you decided you could live with that.
you were only 2 years old when you met james potter for the first time. you lived in a house next to the potters, (though it was remarkably smaller, and looked quite silly next to the large manor), and your parents had decided it was time to meet your neighbors.
your parents having tea with his turned from a one-time meeting to a daily occurence, meaning you and james would spend a lot of time together. at such a young age, you were simply happy to have someone to play with, little did you know.
you were 6 years old when you made your promise to each other. the one you were sure would never break; one that would bound your friendship for life.
“james, will we always be best friends?” you asked, your big eyes sparkling with curiosity.
“of course, y/n. best friends forever.” he replied, smiling down at your smaller figure.
“pinky promise?” you stuck out your pinky; a tradition you’d learned from your muggle-born mother. this was something you’d taught james long ago, and without hesitation he’d liked his finger with yours, sealing the words you held dearly to your heart for years to come.
perhaps you were naive for thinking he’d keep those words.
you were 11 years old when you’d first stepped foot on the hogwarts train. you remember being incredibly nervous that entire morning, and james had held your hand and practically dragged you onto the train.
the two of you had found a compartment with 3 other students in your year; sirius black, severus snape, and lily evans. you didn’t recall much of what was said in that carriage, though you would never forget lily defending severus against sirius and james, or the look james gave her when she’d first snapped back at his snarky remark.
those things stuck with you, probably because they never changed; james and sirius formed an ongoing rivalry with severus, and james’ crush on lily only grew with time.
you were 15 years old when things started to change. james had always been someone who loved attention, not that it was his fault; being an only child, he was used to having a lot of it. so when he’d started showing off to lily in your first year, you weren’t surprised nor phased, because no matter what he’d always make time for you.
however, it had started to become a somewhat recurrent theme as to where he’d miss a study date, claiming he’d forgotten or where he’d be too busy to make plans.
you knew he truly was busy; he’d been extra passionate about quidditch recently, and he felt pressured to keep up his grades, so you never thought too much of it, because at the end of the day, you still hung out regularly; you had your own share of things to do, and you were content.
you were 17 years old when james had finally won lily over. in your opinion, after so long it was a little bit suspicious that suddenly she’d taken interest, but you saw how happy she made him so you kept it to yourself. you and lily got along fine as well; never having really spoken to the girl, aside having the odd casual conversation here and there. she seemed nice, from the few chats the two of you shared.
you were 17 years old when you realized that wasn’t the case.
it was about a week into their relationship when james stopped ‘forgetting’ your study dates (rather blatantly cancelling them instead) more frequently. you tried not to take it too personally; he’d finally got the attention of the girl he’d been pining after since the first year, and you figured it was best to give the two some space for the time being to settle into their relationship.
you would wait for him to come to you when he was ready.
however, time went on and james never came back; if anything, you’d found him distancing himself more and more. they were little things; certain things only his best friend would notice.
the way he nervously tugged on the edge of his robe when you’d talked, short responses during your conversations, little nervous glances when the two of you were alone together.
james had been acting very strange, and you didn’t know if this was something you should be worried about, or if it was simply a phase.
the boys had noticed his behavior as well. sirius and remus watched james practically throw you aside without a moment’s thought, simply because his new girlfriend asked him to.
they were fully aware of what the two of you had gone through together and to see him give it up for a girl who for years wouldn’t give him the time of day, had them furious. they’d tried to confront him about it, but he’d only shrugged them off, “you wouldn’t understand. you’ve never been in love.”
after a month, you barely spoke to james at all. you were hurt beyond belief, but there was no reason to dwell on the past (or so you’d been telling yourself). you’d made better friends with remus, sirius and even somewhat peter, though he didn’t talk much.
you supposed the three pitied you, and since james spent all his time with lily, they had nothing better to do. they’d told you on multiple occasions this wasn’t the case, but you didn’t fully believe them. you appreciated their company though.
slowly however, you drifted away from the four notorious gryffindors altogether. you’d found a new group; your potions partner and newfound friend, mary, had introduced you to her group and they welcome you with open arms.
mary was a ravenclaw, and it was a nice change from all the idiocy you previously surrounded yourself with. you could have intellectual conversations with your new friends and it was refreshing; you found yourself barely thinking about james at all anymore.
james was sitting across from lily at breakfast, smiling and laughing at a joke she’d made. “i’m going to head to charms early, i want to check over something for the essay before class.” she told him, standing up.
“should i come with you?” he asked, fully prepared to leave his half-full plate behind.
“it’s alright james, i’ll see you in class.” with a quick wave, lily sauntered off, leaving james to his own thoughts. he shrugged, continuing with his meal.
he glanced around, suddenly feeling bored and looked for his friends. he’d caught sight of sirius’ wild curls, and grabbed his plate, moving to sit with his friends, who all gave mixed expressions as he sat down.
“how's it going lads?” james asked, digging right back into his food as if he hadn’t sat uninvited.
he glanced around, furrowing his brows. “where’s y/n?”
sirius looked furious, remus blinked and peter dropped his fork, causing confusion and slight worry to rise in james. “why do you care where they are?” sirius snapped, taking him aback.
“what do you mean?”
the other marauders looked at james as if he’d grown another head.
“mate, you haven’t even looked at y/n in weeks.” remus said, disappointment laced obviously in his tone.
“well, lily said i spend too much time with them-”
“prongs, honestly. can’t you see what she’s doing? she’s controlling you! you left y/n without hesitation, just because lily asked? have you forgotten what they’ve done for you? all the years you spent together?” sirius spoke with a dangerously low tone, trying not to cause a scene.
james felt as though he’d been slapped in the face. “where are they?” he asked again, his voice failing him as he spoke.
sirius stood up, huffing and walking off, remus shaking his head and following behind. peter scrambled up, pausing and pointing james quickly in the direction of the ravenclaw table before scurrying off and following the other two out.
he scanned the table, clearly confused before he saw your face. you were listening intently to a story the person across from you was telling; james couldn’t see who it was because their back was to him, but the blue-clad robe had him confused. when did you make friends with a ravenclaw?
before he knew it, you burst out laughing at something your friend had said and his chest tightened. he watched your body shake with the giggles that escaped your lips, his heart growing heavy every passing moment.
sirius’ words replayed in his head. “you left y/n without hesitation, just because lily asked? have you forgotten what they’ve done for you? all the years you spent together?”.
he cared deeply about you; he never stopped caring. he wanted so bad to go up to you and apologize, but he knew what he’d done was unforgivable. he’d never even considered how you would feel when he’d left you.
he’d finally got the girl of his dreams, and yet it cost him his best friend; the only person who’d stayed with him through everything.
and the thing that was killing him the most?
was that you completely, and undeniably, looked happier.

warnings: none i think
a/n: i only proofread this once, please bare with me! also i made the reader gender neutral, i want to make as many of my imagines for everyone as i can!
request: Can I request something where it’s DracoX!femreader and she is friends with Harry, Ron, Hermione, and Draco but Draco gets jealous when he sees her talking, laughing and just hanging out with them. Maybe Harry or Ron finally does something that sets Draco off? (submitted by @buckys-hoeee)
-
not a lot of things bothered draco malfoy. he was a pureblood slytherin who everyone knew and was scared of. he was titled the slytherin prince for godric’s sake. he had everything he wanted and more all to himself. that was everything, with the exception of you.
you were one of the most beautiful people draco malfoy had ever seen. you were a pureblood, just like him, though you were in another house. your house meant nothing to him at this point though, it was the people you’d chosen to associate yourself with that set him off.
the ‘golden trio’ of hogwarts, they called themselves; hermione granger, ron wealsey and his biggest rival, harry potter. the thought boiled his blood.
you weren’t like the other students at hogwarts. you didn’t swoon over him, but you didn’t despise him either. you were different.
you treated him like a genuine person, a friend even, and that is what really caught him. he wasn’t thought of as a monster to you. he was simply draco malfoy. you didn’t care about status or houses. you were perfect.
which is also why draco didn’t deserve you. he knew this. you were happy with your friends, as much as he hated the trio, seeing you happy made everything okay. you would hang out with him alone; usually your hangouts consisted of late nights watching the stars from the astronomy tower, and that was enough for him.
it was a long last few weeks at hogwarts, students left and right running around, cramming as much knowledge into their heads as they could before the commencement of o.w.l.s and n.e.w.t.s. draco had felt like his entire week had consisted of rereading books and notes and he felt as if his head was about to explode.
he hadn’t seen you in a few days, so he decided to see if he could find you. he knew some of your favourite spots, so he threw his books in his bag and ventured off into the castle to track down his friend.
he searched the library first, as it was your go-to studying place, but after searching the entire library (it was quite full) he realized you weren’t there. he checked your common room next, asking if anyone had seen you, only to yet again be found with nothing but your confused housemates.
he then checked the great hall, the courtyard, and the black lake. he’d checked all of your favourite spots, and you were nowhere to be found. “where are they..?” he wondered out loud, thinking hard. there was only one last spot he could think of.
he looked up at the long staircase leading up to the astronomy tower, and as he began his ascent, he heard multiple voices, confusion washing over him. he hadn’t ever seen anyone else up in the tower. he almost left when he heard your laugh. he smiled, until he listened closer and could make out the other voices.
“how am i supposed to know all this? bloody hell i can barely remember where i’ve left my wand!” weasley exclaimed, exasperated.
“ron, if you actually paid attention you wouldn’t have this problem!” granger replied.
“we’ve been studying for hours, hermione! can’t we do something else?” potter asked, clearly bored. draco had had enough. had you really taken them to your shared spot? he marched up the steps, scaring the four wizards at the top.
“how could you bring them here?” he yelled, taking you aback.
“draco, what are you talking about?” you asked, clearly confused. he looked around at the trio; at his enemies, and scoffed. he turned on his heel and stormed off down the stairs.
he could hear you chasing after him, but chose to ignore it as he ran back to his common room. just as he stopped at the portrait, a hand grabbed his arm and pulled him back, shoving him into a storage closet and closing the door behind him.
“what the hell-” he spat, before a hand covered his mouth. after a moment his eyes adjusted to the dark light in the closet and he found himself alone with you, not to his surprise.
a small blush rose to his cheeks at your proximity, but much to his delight, it was much too dark for you to notice. he quickly remembered why he was in this situation and tried to push past you, only to be pushed back.
“you’re not leaving until you answer my question. why were you so upset up in the astronomy tower?” draco looked at his feet, unable to make eye contact. “draco.” you pushed, hearing him sigh. “you can’t just ignore me-”
“fine, alright?” he cut you off, “i haven’t seen you in days y/n, you’ve been too busy studying or hanging out with.. potter.” he spat, an unusually venomous tone leaving his lips. you opened their mouth to speak, but he wasn’t finished.
“all i wanted was to spend some time with you. i searched the entire school; only to find out you’ve taken them to our spot? how could you do this to me?” he breathed, his hurt obvious, tinged with another emotion he couldn’t make out.
an awkward silence followed, neither of the two knowing what to say. “i didn’t know it meant so much to you, draco.” you started, slowly. “i really am sorry. i won’t take them up there again.” you offered an apologetic smile, and he forced a smile back, ready to leave. before he could though, you spoke again.
“you don’t have to answer, but.. may i ask why it means so much to you?” at this, draco froze. he wanted to say it was because of potter, but he knew it wasn’t true. and he knew you did too.
“well.. if you haven’t noticed, not a lot of people.. like me. they fear me. they hate me.” he spilled, avoiding meeting your gaze. “but you.. you never hated me. i may put up a strong front, but it was nice to find someone to talk to without worrying about titles, or blood status.”
you listened intently, focusing on every word. “once i saw you with potter and weasley in our spot.. it just made me feel so angry and betrayed. i don’t know.” he finished, the awkward feeling of confession weighing on him like a ton of bricks.
it was quiet, much too quiet for his liking, and he reached for the doorknob to leave. however, you took his hand in yours, and turned him to face you. you hesitated, choosing your words carefully, before you spoke. “draco, were you jealous? of me spending time with harry, ron and hermione?”
he looked you in the eyes, seeing nothing but sympathy and genuine interest, before his gaze met the floor. you sighed, grasping his chin lightly and moving his gaze to yours. “i am sorry. really. i never meant to make you feel like this. i promise i’ll make it up to you.” you smiled, and he felt himself smiling as well.
you gently opened the closet door, stepping out. you paused, turning around to face him, and in a split second, you stepped up, kissing him on the cheek. “goodnight draco.” with that, you scurried off, leaving him standing there grinning like an idiot and speechless.
he blinked, before closing the closet and going straight to his dorm. he gently touched his cheek where your lips met his skin, a soft smile plastered on his lips. one reserved just for you.
“mate, what are you smiling about?” blaise asked, a sleepy and amused expression on his face.
“nothing zabini, go back to sleep.” draco snapped jokingly, flopping down on his bed with one person on his mind. ‘y/n l/n.. what are you doing to me?’

“dammit!” you whisper-yelled, rummaging through your trunk as you scrambled to get dressed. “where the hell is my wand?!” it was nearly time for class; you were supposed to attend breakfast 30 minutes prior but you’d stayed up particularly late finishing an essay that was due.
you nearly gave up all hope when you looked up and saw your wand exactly where you left it, sat neatly on your bedside table. you snatched it and literally ran out of the dorms and to the potions classroom.
breathing a sigh of relief, you fixed your tie as you joined the sea of students heading into the room. you were lucky that your common room was in the dungeons, or you would’ve been late. not that it really mattered, snape would’ve let you off anyways.
you took your normal seat next to your best friend theodore nott, who’d laughed at your disheveled and out of breath state. “you got lucky.” he whispered, as snape made his room, and you gently slapped theo’s shoulder, light laughter coming from you both as you settled into your seats.
“due to some.. reckless and unacceptable behavior..” he glared at some gryffindors. “...i will be reassigning partners.” snape drawled, causing the room to groan.
“silence! move to your new seats once i announce your partners. do not bother to complain, i will not be making alternative arrangements.” you and theo frowned as names were called out, “potter and longbottom.” “parkinson and nott.” “malfoy and l/n.”
you paused, hoping it wasn’t true. you looked at theo, and due to the apologetic look on his face, you knew you’d heard right.
draco malfoy was your new potions partner. you glanced over to see him packing up his bag to move next to you. he didn’t look at all pleased, and you were sure you looked the same.
to put it simply, you and draco didn’t get along. it all began in your first year, when the two of you were neck and neck for top student in slytherin. ever since, the two of you had formed a rivalry of sorts and a growing hatred for the other. you couldn’t spend five minutes next to each other without an insult being thrown.
this was going to be interesting.
draco sat down, saying nothing and keeping his eyes forward. you sighed quietly and did the same. snape continued on with his lesson, eventually assigning the task and letting you get to work. he turned to you, “let’s just get this done, yeah?” nodding silently, you both claimed certain tasks and got to work.
it wasn’t long before you finished the potion, bottling it up and handing it into snape. “you see students, this is what it looks like when you actually follow what is said and make it right.” snape announced, causing some eyerolls amongst the room. “10 points to slytherin. you two are dismissed.”
you smirked, clearly enjoying the praise and gathered your things. with a quick wave to theo, you left the room, draco following behind you. silence filled the hall as you both made your way back to the common room.
you had to admit, you were surprised the two of you worked so well together considering your history. “you know, malfoy..” you both stopped at the sound of your voice, and he looked at you with a raised eyebrow. “you don’t make a half bad partner.” you said lightly, taking him by surprise, before sending him a smirk. “for a moment there, i’d almost say you were better than me. almost.” he scoffed, rolling his eyes.
“oh please l/n, we both know who’s the better potion-maker here.” he shot back, his infamous smirk plastered on his face.
you looked at him up and down, “glad we agree then. i’m much better than you are.” you shot him a wink, quickly muttering the password to the portrait and stepping inside the room.
you were both aware he was much more advanced in potions, but you had dug yourself in now and you had much too much pride to give up now. “is that so? if i’m not mistaken, last week you nearly added rat spleens to your swelling solution rather than bat spleens!”
you turned to face him as you shot back, “in my defense, my book was smudged and-” but before you could finish your sentence, your body collided with his and you would’ve been knocked over completely had he not reached out and caught you.
the two of you stood in shock for a moment as you regained your balance, looking up at him and opening your mouth to say something, but you closed it again as no words came to mind. you two made eye contact and froze, before you both began leaning in slowly. to your luck, just before your lips touched, the door to the common room began opening and the two of you jumped apart.
the room quickly flooded with students, and without even looking at you, draco grabbed his books and joined his friends, acting as if nothing happened. you shook your head as you saw terry approaching you.
“how was potions with malfoy?” he asked, an expression of humor on his face. “it was fine. i managed.” you said, laughing along with him.
however, you weren’t managing well. you couldn’t stop thinking about your ‘moment’ for the rest of the day. laying in your bed that night, he was the only thing on your mind.
‘was he really going to kiss me?’ ‘was i really going to kiss him??’ ‘do i fancy draco malfoy?’ your thoughts and heart were racing. earlier that morning, you would’ve laughed at the idea of you and draco having a tolerable relationship. you’d hated the bloke. now, you weren’t sure that would be so bad. how could one action change your entire view on someone?
as you closed your eyes and drifted into a deep sleep, the only thing you were sure of was that you definitely didn’t hate draco malfoy.
you have such an aesthetic blog i’m yelling...how is your masterlist so pretty
omg thank you!! honestly i tried really hard to make it look aesthetic because i feel like hufflepuff is kinda revolved around aesthetics?? idk. as for my masterlist i’ve had previous blogs in other fandoms and i honestly just copy pasted it from my old one and rearranged it to fit harry potter. doing it on a computer helps also :)
(tip: anything italicized looks very aesthetic on its own! that’s my secret shh)
