request: Edmund who has a crush or best friend that really likes him, but they keep lying about who they are in order to try and get his attention/affection? and then Edmund finds out about it? figured a little angst would be appropriate for our angsty boy 😂

as king, edmund had his fair share of responsibilities. sometimes that included visiting other lands in an effort to form a treaty or a trade with those lands to help benefit narnia. usually, susan was the one to travel and negotiate with the other lands; she was much better at bartering than the rest of the pevensies.
today she was meant to visit archenland, one of the closest allies, to re-negotiate a treaty the country seemed unfair. she was ill, however, and because her trip was already planned, edmund was forced to go in her place.
he didn’t really mind the travelling; being cooped up in the castle for months at a time wasn’t healthy by any means, and he did enjoy the sight seeing he got to witness on trips like these. besides, archenland wasn’t too far of a travel, and he was sure getting out and visiting the land would be good for him.
the travels passed much quicker than he anticipated, and soon enough, he arrived at the castle.
you were in your room, preparing for the arrival of queen susan of narnia. you had met her before, and the two of you had become quite close friends. you were excited to see her again, and put on your most casual gown.
you were assigned to collect susan and bring her to her room, and help her adjust into your kingdom. though you were a princess, you told your father that you would much prefer to be the one to help and to spend time with an old friend. he hesitantly agreed, knowing you had never been one for traditional ‘princess’ stereotypes.
you glanced in the mirror, satisfied with your appearance. you skipped through the halls, eager to meet her at the entryway. “your majesty!” you heard behind you, and you turned, smiling as you saw your lady-in-waiting, hannah, running towards you.
“hannah, what have i told you about titles?” you scolded, shaking your head. she apologized, taking a second to catch her breath.
“we’ve just received word from queen susan. she will not be attending the meetings due to her being ill. instead, her younger brother, king edmund will be visiting.” she explained, and your smile dropped.
you hadn’t met edmund yet, nor any of the rest of susan’s siblings. from what she’d told you though, edmund was going to be the hardest one to impress. he took his responsibilities a little too seriously (according to susan’s exact words) and lacked having fun.
you smiled, an idea forming in your head. you were going to give him the most fun experience in archenland you could possibly give him. “thank you hannah, you’re free to go.” you dismissed her, and she gave a small curtsy before scurrying off.
you made your way through the large doors, being just in time for the arrival of the carriage the young king rode in. you took a deep breath, smiling warmly and walking over, waiting patiently for the carriage to stop and for him to exit.
after a moment, the door was opened by the driver, and you watched as the younger king stepped out, his eyes scanning the beautiful land that was your home, your jaw almost dropped.
there he stood, raven hair messily styled on his head and beautiful brown eyes that held curiosity and an air of fascination. freckles littered the bridge of his nose and cheeks, and you were sure you had never seen someone so.. beautiful. why hadn’t susan cared to mention her brother was so attractive??
you finally snapped out of your stupor as the king’s eyes finally landed on you, you throwing on a bright smile and walking over, curtsying as you arrived in front of him. “my liege. it is my greatest honour to have you visiting our kingdom.” you spoke politely, your head still bowed and hidden from sight.
“rise.” he ordered, though his tone was soft and welcoming. you did as told, the smile never once faltering.
“my name is y/n, should you need anything during your stay here, please report to me.” he nodded, reaching into the cart and handing you his bags. you blinked, but didn’t comment and took them anyways. you were sure he meant no harm by the action and figured it was better not to say anything.
you took edmund to his chambers, giving him a brief tour as you made your way through the castle. it was nothing compared to that of narnia’s (or so you assumed, based off of susan’s descriptions), though he still seemed thoroughly impressed by the architecture. you smirked proudly in front of him, your face out of view from his line of sight.
you arrived at the room he’d be staying, asking permission to enter with him; the way you’d always been taught. he allowed you to put down his bags, and you curtsied to him one final time. “i must go check on the kitchens in preparation for dinner, is there anything else i can help you with my liege?” you asked, and he only shook his head, unspeaking.
he had barely spoken a word to you since you had arrived, and you were starting to lose your endlessly happy spirit. suddenly you were very aware as to why susan spoke so lowly of her brother. you tried your best to mask your sadness and dismissed yourself politely, promising to fetch him when it came time for dinner.
you frowned the whole way to the kitchen, every passer-by looking at you in mild concern. it was rare for their princess to be caught without a smile, though no one dared approach her in fear of further upsetting her.
you arrived at your destination, checking on the catering and got a time for dinner, thanking your staff. you then carried on with your day, your mood slowly returning as you did your daily rounds of the castle. you were not going to let a stubborn teenage king ruin your spirits. no matter how cute he was.
you didn’t see the king for a few hours since you’d left him, and when the time finally came to collect him for dinner, you forced a polite smile, knocking gently. “king edmund?” you called, and he opened the door, and your heart fluttered. his hair was somehow messier, and he was rubbing his eyes tiredly. you blushed deeply as you realized he must have been sleeping. “i-i am so sorry, my liege. i didn’t mean to disturb you.” you faltered, guilt flooding you.
for once since you’d met, edmund smiled kindly at you. “it’s quite alright.” you gulped, still feeling horrible for waking him and keeping your gaze on the floor.
“hey, y/n is it? i mean it. you needn’t feel bad. i am quite hungry though, shall we head to the dining room?” he joked, and you felt your blush deepen, but it wasn’t from embarrassment.
“uh, yes. of course, right this way.” you began walking to the dining hall, edmund hot on your heels. the walk was silent, though it was mostly you scolding yourself. not necessarily for waking him up- his earlier treatment should’ve evened it out. you were upset of yourself for feeling so drawn to him.
sure, you wouldn’t deny his obvious attraction; though there was something unexplainable that had you wanting to know everything about him. maybe it was his easy change in attitude from earlier to now, maybe it was because of the stories susan had told you and your own need to find out more. maybe it was because you’d known him for so little time, and he seemed to be able to read you well (not that you were great at hiding it), and you knew nothing about him.
walking the final steps to the hall, you hesitated before turning to edmund. “fair warning, my liege. this is going to be the most boring dinner of your life.” he looked at you confused, but before he could question you, you gently pushed open the doors to the dining hall, announcing your arrival to the rest of your family and guests.
in your kingdom, when one was here for royal business, your parents and the lords of archenland ate with the guest, while the ladies and yourself ate in a separate dining room. there was no real reason- other than the fact you all got quite bored with the business chatter and you found no reason to be there.
you stood tall, straightening your back as you felt all eyes turn to you, and you smiled formally. “by honor, i give you king edmund the just, of narnia.” you curtsied once again, everyone standing and bowing/curtseying respectfully.
edmund simply waved them off, and you walked him to his seat, pulling it out and gesturing for him to sit. he seemed taken aback, but gratefully smiled at you as he sat down.
a sudden confidence overcame you and as you went to push in his chair, you bent close to his ear and only for him to hear you whispered a small “good luck” and his eyes widened at your words; though he covered it well, so it was an action for only for you to see. you gave a discreet wink, seeing a small redness rise to his cheeks before you dismissed yourself, closing the grand doors behind you.
you ate dinner much less formally, chatting with hannah and your fellow ladies; these types of dinners were the few the lot of you got to chat without the worry of titles and it was your favourite thing.
sooner than you’d liked, dinner was over and you dismissed everyone, making your way back to the dining room the great king of narnia was currently suffering in. you sit on a bench outside of the dining room, until finally the doors were opened and the king was excused.
your parents and the lords exited first, quickly dispersing in each direction. your parents bid you a quick goodnight before slipping off themselves. edmund left the dining room last, glancing around until his eyes finally found yours, and you watched as a relieved look overcame his expression.
he gently offered you a hand, surprising you; but you took it gratefully. he smiled, pulling you to your feet, and tugging you against him so his ear was against your ear, your face immediately heating up at the contact. “you know, you weren’t kidding. that was the most political dinner i’ve ever experienced.” he muttered, and a small silence followed until you burst out giggling, him following suit. you playfully pushed him away, rolling your eyes; this only sparked more laughter from the just king.
you began walking away, knowing he’d follow you. “come on, don’t be like that.” he prodded, barely making out the words between giggles. you decided to drag it out, turning around exaggeratedly with a pouty expression.
“i haven’t the slightest clue what you’re talking about.” you pursed, smirking before swiftly turning, continuing on towards his chambers. he shook his head, his laughter finally dying down and a small, amused smile rested on his lips. an idea popped into his head, and though he knew it was unkingly, at the moment, he was having too much fun to care.
he began running down the hallway, taking you surprise when he sped past you. “race you!” he called, and you gasped offendedly, taking off after him.
“this is unfair! i’m wearing heels!” you complained, though you continued to run through the corridor after him. he slowed to a stop as you finally arrived at his chambers, you not noticing and running right into him.
“woah!” he stumbled, his hands grabbing hold of your waist firmly and your hands reaching out to his chest, steadying you.
you both looked into each other’s eyes, time seeming to slow for a split second. you enjoyed the small shared moment before your position registered to both of you, blushes rising on both your cheeks before you broke apart; him letting go of your waist with an awkward cough and you taking back your arms and crossing them over your chest, rubbing one to try to distract yourself from embarrassment. “sorry.” you both stated genuinely, looking at each other.
you couldn’t help yourself, and began giggling. his expression changed to one of confusion, clearly not really understanding the humour, but secretly appreciating the sound of your laugh. “sorry, sorry.” you tried catching your breath, “it’s just, it is your fault. i told you i was wearing heels; they aren’t exactly great for running, let alone slowing down or stopping” you managed, and at this, he cracked a smile and let out a chuckle.
“my apologies, love.” he bowed dramatically, grabbing your hand and pressing a kiss to it formally, watching with a proud smirk as your face lit up bright red. “do forgive me?” he continued teasing, and you decided that you’d return the favor.
“i suppose i could do that, my king.” your tone became slightly seductive, taking edmund off guard and you quickly reached up, your lips brushing his cheek oh-so-gently. you watched as colour flooded his cheeks quickly, and you felt pride swell in you.
“well, i suppose it is getting quite late. i shall see you tomorrow, my liege.” you sent one last final wink, and still, a respectful bow, before sauntering off, edmund’s eyes never leaving your retreating figure.
you arrived at your door, sending a small look his way, seeing him watching you. you smiled, genuinely, before disappearing.
edmund finally shook his head, opening the door to his chamber and entered, his mind reeling as he undressed and changed into his nightwear. who was this woman, really, and why did she have such an effect on him?
they hadn’t even known eachother a day. a mere hour or two at most they’d spent together, and he felt something with her he hadn’t felt in a long time. he felt happy; almost like a kid again. he hadn’t felt that since they were in finchley, before the war. he shook his head; he didn’t even know you. though he surely intended to.
you weren’t much better. you couldn’t get the image of the just king out of your head. you hated formalities, and he seemed to forget all about them. you didn’t notice him address you as a royal all day, and it felt amazing.
you thought maybe, just maybe, you would find a friend in edmund, like you did susan. you longed to spend time with someone who understood you well; hannah was your lady-in-waiting and a friend, sure, but she was forced to address you as her princess.
you wanted someone who didn’t care for titles, and just maybe, edmund would be that person.

there wasn’t much to complain about living life as a lady in narnia. you had your duties, and sure, sometimes they sucked, but at the end of the day, you were eternally grateful for the life you’ve been given.
there was one thing, however, that proved to be an issue for you. and that was the social aspect of it all.
you were never one for crowds, and you hated having to interact with so many strangers at once. you were very easily overwhelmed, and the hectic nature of social gatherings was not your scene. hence why you weren’t a fan of susan’s infamous balls she so dearly loved to hold.
even so, you were still expected to attend said balls due to your status and close friendship with the pevensies. you’d asked them several times if you could make up an excuse to miss, though they always brushed it off. in edmund’s words, “how will i ever make it through this insufferable night without you?”
so that’s how you found yourself alone in the ballroom, back pressed against the wall; as far as humanly possible from anyone near you without leaving the room. you froze when you were approached by a prince from archenland. you didn’t have the heart to deny his offer to dance, so you allowed him to guide you to the middle of the grand ballroom, slowly leading you in a dance.
you were actually faring quite well, until he spun you out gently, and your eyes caught sight of just how many people were around you. your body went rigid, panic flooding you instantly as you watched couples dance spin past you. you vaguely heard the prince asking you something, but you blocked it out. “i have to go.” you told him, leaving him no time to reply before you dashed out of the crowded area.
edmund watched the whole ordeal; one second he was glaring daggers at the boy who’d asked you to dance, and the next, he watched you freeze up and run out of the room without any warning. he quickly weaved through the crowd, keeping his head low as to avoid possible conversation. he stepped out of the room only to see you nowhere to be found; though he knew exactly where you were. he was your best friend after all.
you leaned your elbows against the railing of the balcony, your face resting in your hands as you desperately tried to grasp reality. your breaths were ragged, and you were quickly getting lightheaded. you felt a presence running up behind you, and you flinched; though you knew exactly who it was. you made no move towards him, simply standing vulnerable, scared to look up at him.
“y/n. look at me.” he stepped forward, so he was standing directly beside you. you closed your eyes, sighing deeply before standing up and facing him. the moment your eyes met, you felt yourself getting choked up, and you were very aware of how little oxygen you were intaking as tears began cascading down your cheeks. “hey, it’s okay. don’t be afraid. i’ve got you - focus on me. just breathe, okay?” he coached, and you nodded hesitantly, following his instructions. “breathe in, and out with me - just like that.” he praised, and you felt your muscles relax as you gratefully accepted the fresh air into your burning lungs.
once you had completely regulated your breathing, you stood in silence for a few moments. edmund waited patiently, making no sign of discomfort. you were sure at this point - you did not deserve edmund pevensie. without further warning, you launched forward, pulling him into a tight hug and letting out her emotions into his perfectly fitted formal attire. he held her tightly against his chest, and subconsciously, he began to run a hand gently up and down her back in an attempt to soothe her.
it was at that moment that edmund knew he wanted this to last; the feeling of you in his arms was a surreal feeling, and though he wished it was under better circumstances, he knew he had to tell you how he felt. it was now or never.
he waited until your tears had subsided completely, before gently pushing you to hold you at arm’s length. you frowned, confused, but tensed slightly as edmund stepped forward, brushing a strand of hair behind your ear. “ed-” you breathed, and he shook his head, cutting you off effectively.
“look, y/n..” he started, and you swore, you’d never seen edmund so nervous. you reached for his hand, grasping it tightly in your own, smiling reassuringly at him - giving him the boost he needed. “when i met you, i didn’t know what i’d be getting myself into. you were just the quiet girl who no one knew too well. i remember when you surprised us all when you kept up with my sarcasm in that one meeting - the one about the archenland visits.” you smiled, nodding to show you remembered, but you had no idea where he was going with this.
“that was the day i realized you were so much more than just another lady. after that, we became best friends, and i swear out of everything narnia’s given me, you were-, no, you are the best part. i don’t know what i’d do without you, y/n.” he hesitated, cursing under his breath. “fuck it, i hate speeches. what i’m trying to say is, y/n, you’ve shown me what love feels like. i just needed you to know that, i can’t keep pretending otherwise.”
you stood speechless, looking into edmund’s eyes softly. you saw nothing but sincerity in his beautiful brown orbs, and you smiled sweetly. “i’ve waited for this moment for a long time. what took you so long?” you teased, and he chuckled, shaking his head. you both stepped forward, and he reached out, cupping your cheek gently. “hey ed?” you started, and he quirked a brow, urging you to continue. “kiss me.”
spoiler alert: he did. and that was only the first of many kisses to come.

*italics are a memory.*
you loved everything about the fall season. the aesthetic of it all filled you with a certain warmth and comfort.
your favourite part of it all, however, was halloween. making your own and seeing everyone’s costumes, the delicious treats, the amazing hogwarts feast; every aspect of it was perfect, in your eyes.
after having had grown up with muggle parents, it was one of the few traditions that transferred over to the wizarding world. sure, there were a few differences, but for the most part, it made you more at home.
there was only one part of muggle halloween you couldn’t experience at hogwarts, and that was sitting down with your loved ones and hand-carving pumpkins. in the wizarding world, with a flick of their wrist, they could have whatever they wanted engraved in the vegetable without going through the large mess. for you, it seemed to ruin the fun, but you supposed that was only because you’d grown up doing it the hard way.
the only people you’d told of your traditions, were your boyfriend george and his brother, fred. and it didn’t go as well as you’d hoped.
“hey guys.” you huffed, plopping down into the seat next to fred, and across from george. they exchanged a confused glance, before looking back to you.
“what's up with you?” fred asked, digging into his breakfast. your eyes flitted around at the floating jack-o-lanterns littering the great hall. their gazes followed, though they didn’t speak.
“it’s just, when i was a kid, my family and i had this tradition of carving pumpkins. i miss it, that’s all.” you spoke dazedly, your eyes trained upwards.
“we can carve pumpkins here, if you want!” fred suggested, holding up his wand with a grin. you shook your head.
“not like that! like, scooping out the guts! and using stencils - drawing out what you want to carve, and then cutting into it with a knife!” you smiled excitedly, only to meet the confused faces of your friends.
“why in merlin’s name would you want to do that?” george peeped, tilting his head in confusion.
“well, i- i dunno. it’s fun!” you tried, and he didn’t reply. you looked (a bit desperately) at fred, who only shrugged.
“sorry, y/n. i’m with george on this one - i don’t get it. it seems like a bit of a waste of time, if i’m being honest.” he smiled apologetically, but you barely saw it as you were already standing up and gathering your things. “wait, where are you going?”
you turned away from them, refusing to show how upset you really were. “i’m not hungry. i’m sorry for bothering you - it was stupid.” before they could reply, you were already exiting the great hall, leaving the people you cared so much about staring guiltily at each other.
you hadn’t seen the twins since your interaction at breakfast. you tried to understand where they were coming from, having grown up in a world completely different to your own - but you wished they would’ve done the same and tried to understand, for your sake. you wanted to calm down before seeing them, and you’ve been avoiding them for hours now, though they didn’t seem to be making too much of an effort to try to talk to you.
sure, they had come to apologize to you, though when you showed no sign of accepting, they left you alone.
it hurt. you would’ve hoped they cared about you enough to at least try to get you to forgive them more than once. you had vented to your best friend angelina for awhile about what happened and how you were feeling. you spoke for a decent amount of time before she told you she had something to do and you didn’t want to hold her up, giving her a quick hug and waving her off politely.
you tried to push the thought of the twins out of your head. you decided you weren’t going to let this ruin one of your favourite times of year.
you forced a smile, and grabbed your broom. you figured if anything, enjoying time outside in the beautiful autumn weather was going to cheer you up. and you loved flying, deciding that it would be a nice way to clear your head.
angelina waited until you were well on your way to the pitch before she returned to the common room, finding fred and george sulking on the sofa. “nice going idiots. you’ve done it this time.” she sassed, and the two boys looked at her ludicrously. “luckily for you though, i have an idea.” an evil smirk creeped up on her lips, and fred and george looked at each other nervously, but agreed.
-
you weren’t sure how long you’d been out on the pitch, but by the time you had made it back to your dorm to change, everyone had already headed to the great hall for dinner. you quickly threw on your robes and followed suit, slipping in quietly. you looked for angelina, seeing her sitting alone. you smiled as you approached her, nodding in acknowledgement.
you two chatted casually, but you couldn’t help but glance down the table, looking for your favourite gingers. “say, where are fred and george?” you asked, furrowing your brows. angelina shrugged, and you sighed. you hoped they weren’t skipping a meal for you; it certainly wouldn’t have been the first time george had pulled something like that for you, because he wanted to give you space - which you thought was the dumbest thing he could’ve done.
dinner ended quickly, and you were about to head to the common room when angelina paused. you looked at her questioningly, and she grabbedyour wrist and pulling you to a clearing, away from the wave of students heading back to their common rooms. “i just remembered, fred and george were setting up a prank on trelawney, and asked if i could grab something for them. do you mind if we go to the kitchens?” you shrugged, you never turned down a trip to the kitchens.
you both hid behind a wall, waiting for the many hufflepuff students to file into their dorm for the night. when you bid it was safe, you discreetly tickled the pear on the painting and stepped into the kitchens.
what met your gaze almost brought you to tears.
fred and george stood proudly holding up carving knives and various stencils, with bowls and scoops strawn perfectly around the table. you opened your mouth to speak, but couldn't find your voice. angelina pushed you forward gently, and you wordlessly walked over to george, who had an apologetic expression on his face. “you did this? but i.. huh?” you stuttered, and his smile only brightened at your shock.
“i know this is cheesy, and that we were incredibly rude earlier,” he paused, and you let out a weak chuckle. “but we didn’t give you a chance - and we thought maybe if you were up for it, you’d show us what the fun is all about?” he smiled cheekily, but you saw the nerves behind his words. you didn’t reply, but you took a step forward, engulfing him in a tight hug, which he quickly returned.
“you suck, george weasley.” you muttered into his chest, and felt vibrations run through you as he laughed at your words. you slowly released the hug, shoving him playfully. “that’s for earlier.” he opened his mouth to retort, but you quickly leaned up and connected your lips in a small peck. “and that’s for all of this.” you said, softly. you both smiled, you gently taking his hand in yours and tugging him towards the table.
“so, how do we do this exactly?” angelina asked, looking at the various tools laid out in front of you all.
you smiled, and pulled out a knife. “well, first you cut a hold in the top of the pumpkin, so you can clear it out-”
three hours and countless laughs later, you all had made the biggest mess the kitchen had probably ever seen, and you had each finished a pumpkin. fred and george took the liberty of having a contest to see who could make the scarier carving, and you and angelina stuck with generic designs. you had used the stencils george and fred had found - you weren’t even going to question where they got those, by the way - and were extremely happy with the final product.
you turned to george and fred, a smirk on your face. “still think it's as pointless as it seems?” you teased, and you watched as simultaneously, they rubbed the back of their necks, awkwardly.
“well, actually, that was much more enjoyable than i would’ve thought..” mumbled fred, and angelina smacked him in the chest. “ow!” he shrieked, and before he could react, she had grabbed a handful of pumpkin guts, and thrown it his way. he gasped as the slimy substance hit his clothes, and quickly retaliated. she, however, had dodged the attack, and it instead had hit you.
fred’s mouth formed an ‘o’ shape as you smirked evilly, you and angelina locking eye contact and making a silent agreement before you both took a handful of goop, launching it at fred and george.
you had fought until there was nothing left in the bowls you had so nicely put the contents in, and you all looked around in hysterics as you noticed that you had managed to get pumpkin everywhere.
you called over a house elf, and apologetically asked if they could clean up the pumpkin guts and tools, and her gaze widened as she saw the amount of pumpkin everywhere. still, she gladly cleaned everything but your carved pumpkins with a snap of her fingers, and collected the dishes to return them to their usual places. you thanked her kindly, and shook your head at your friends.
that night, the four of you snuck your pumpkins down to hagrid’s hut, hiding them amongst the extremely large pumpkins he grew during the season.
you’d left him a small note under his doorstep, and with the help of the marauder’s map, you successfully weaved your way through the school, back to the safety of the common room without being caught. you all bid eachother goodnight, and you all washed off before getting into beds, content.
maybe it wasn’t the tradition you were used to, but something told you that wasn’t going to be the last time you were going to be carving pumpkins with the weasley twins. maybe you’d just made a new tradition.
and to you, this was just one more reason to love the autumn season.

you loved the holidays, it has been your favourite time of year for as long as you can remember. college was much more draining than you anticipated, and it was really beginning to weigh you down. the only thing that had been keeping you going was the excitement of returning to your family and relaxing for the next few weeks.
nothing was ever that simple, though. your flight home had been cancelled due to weather. thankfully, you were still with edmund, your best friend, when you got the notification. he insisted you stay with him and his family, and you after much argument, you gave in.
you were nervous walking up the steps to the pevensie household, edmund had told you his two sisters and parents were already expecting them, and that his brother should be home later.
you followed edmund through the front door, hearing a mass of footsteps rush towards you. you saw a younger girl come embrace edmund, and he returned it, greeting his family all with hugs and smiles. you felt as though you were intruding, and nervously shifted from foot to foot.
you seemed to catch the attention of the youngest girl, whom you recalled was named lucy, and she made her way over to you, catching you off guard when she threw her arms around you and embraced you tightly.
“you must be y/n! edmund has told us so much about you!” she exclaimed, and you smiled.
“has he now?” you teased, and edmund rolled his eyes, knowing he’d never live down his sister’s words.
“thanks lu.” he grumbled, and a laugh erupted throughout the group, making you feel more at home than you could’ve thought possible.
you spent the afternoon getting to know the pevensies, and you realized why edmund spoke so highly of them all. they were all so sweet and welcoming, though you did wonder how it would be to meet edmund’s brother.
ed tried to avoid the topic of him generally, saying briefly that him and his brother had a much more complex and competitive relationship. from the way the other pevensies had casually thrown warnings around at the mention of the eldest child, you assumed he must not have been the most well-behaved of the family.
you were joyfully sipping on a cup of hot chocolate chatting with lucy and susan when the door swung open, making you jump a little at the unexpected noise. your heads snapped to the entrance area, susan shaking her head and lucy jumping up to greet who you assumed to be peter.
“honestly, he hasn’t even been here five minutes and he’s already being incredibly loud!” susan huffed, causing you to giggle.
“he’s that bad, huh?” you asked, and susan opened her mouth to reply when you were interrupted by lucy re-entering the room, a tall blonde boy following her. susan stood to greet him, scolding him for his obnoxious actions all the while.
you took the time to study his features. he was broad, muscular. he had a defined jawline and beautiful blue eyes. his hair was a beautiful golden colour and looked fluffy, and you had a strange urge to run your fingers through it.
you snapped out of your daze when he turned to you, and you felt a small blush rise to your cheeks as he looked you up and down not-so-subtly.
“and who might you be?” he asked, his voice slightly teasing. you opened your mouth to reply when edmund came into the room and interrupted.
“this is y/n. stay away from her.” he said simply, taking your wrist and pulling you out of the room. you blinked in surprise, but didn’t argue. you simply let him guide you away from the beautiful man in the main area.
he turned to you, seeing the dazed look in your eye and frowning. “no. absolutely not.” you furrowed your brow, and he sighed. “you have that look in your eyes. you cannot fancy my brother! that’s just weird!” he whined, and you laughed, shaking your head.
“cmon ed. sure, he’s attractive. you know me too well, i can’t lie. but he is your brother, and i won’t do that to you.” you told him genuinely, and he smiled, pulling you into a hug. “but if you were jealous, you could’ve just said so.” you teased, and edmund huffed.
“please. you know who i fancy, and it’s definitely not you.” he shot, and you threw a hand over your heart, feigning hurt and shock.
“edmund pevensie, you’ve wounded me. how shall i ever heal from this?” you mocked, and the two of you burst into a fit of giggles. you were so lost in your own world you didn’t notice the pair of blue eyes trained on your figure.
“you know, if you stare any longer it will start to get weird.” lucy came up behind him, startling peter. he opened his mouth to defend himself, but closed it again and shook his head, walking into the kitchen to help prepare dinner without another word. lucy shrugged to herself, not bothering to further question her eldest brother.
you sat next to edmund at the dinner table, playfully bantering back and forth. you two were basically off in your own little world, though you did chat with his parents and sisters here and there when asked a question or when the conversation drifted to something of interest to you.
you had hardly spoken a word to peter, however, as he was being quite quiet - something you definitely weren’t expecting from edmund’s stories.
the night progressed quickly after that, and everyone gathered for a movie in the main area after all was settled. you were in charge of getting drinks, while edmund was getting snacks. you were carefully bringing each drink to the designated person, knowing how likely you were to trip.
after a few successful attempts of bringing drinks, you gained confidence, and were striding over to peter, who was completely distracted, lost in a conversation with lucy. his side profile was beautiful, you thought.
in processing said thought, you missed the sight of the carpet slightly rolled and caught your foot, sending you tumbling to the ground and the fizzy drink to spill all over you.
the pevensies were shocked by the sudden motion, but lucy quickly jumped up, checking to see if you were okay. edmund came running in the door upon hearing the small bang, and looked down, only to see you lying on the floor and being helped up by his younger sister.
he burst into laughter, your face reddening even more in embarrassment. you glanced to the other pevensies, to see them all trying to hold down their laughter. especially the boy who made you trip in the first place. you sighed, exasperated.
“gosh, ed. if you’d told me your family were all just like you, i never would have agreed to come.” you mumbled, and at that comment, none of the pevensies could contain their laughter any longer.
you rolled your eyes jokingly, but smiled all the same as the sound of edmund’s whining filled your ears. your eyes met peters, and despite the amusing expression on his face, he gave you a genuine smile.
you weren’t sure how he knew, but you heard edmund huff - only loud enough for you to hear, you were sure - before he began to shake his head, grumbling.
“peter, would you mind showing her my room so she can change while i finish getting the snacks?” edmund asked, and you blinked in surprise. surely, he wasn’t doing what you knew he was? after a small questioning glance his way, he sent you a knowing look, before disappearing off into the kitchen.
peter stood, motioning for you to follow him. you did so, and only when you reached edmund’s room did you notice how awkward the silence lingering between the two of you had been. “thanks.” you said, and he nodded, turning to leave you.
your heart dropped a bit, and you figured you might as well speak now rather than never. “you know..” you started, catching his attention. “from the way edmund speaks of you, i thought you’d be much more fun.” you pouted playfully, and you watched as peter’s entire demeanor changed.
“oh really? i didn’t expect my brother to speak so highly of me.” he fired back, and you smirked, leaning against the frame of edmund’s door.
“on occasion he does. though, now that you mention it, it is quite a rare occurrence.” you were having fun with this now, and peter seemed to think before slightly retreating backwards, his smirk falling to a frown.
“i hope he isn’t talking me up too much to his girlfriend.” he practically spat the last word, causing you to blink in thought. girlfriend? you took a minute to process, and suddenly everything made sense.
“-wait, do you think edmund and i are dating?!” your face morphed into one of mock disgust, and he frowned.
“you’re not?” his ears began to turn to a light pink shade, his confusion and embarrassment clear as day.
“no - he’s my best friend. i would trust him with my life if it came down to it, but i don't think i could ever see him as anything more than that.” you told him truthfully, and peter seemed to contemplate this for a moment.
“well, that’s good to know i suppose. makes me feel better.” he responded thoughtfully, and you quirked a brow.
“why’s that make you feel better exactly?” you quipped, and he smirked.
“i would’ve felt terrible fancying my brother’s girlfriend.” he winked, and without another word, turned and left you standing in edmund’s doorway, your thoughts running wild. you were sure by now you were blushing madly, and heard footsteps thundering up the steps shortly after.
“y/n, what the hell is taking you so long?” edmund huffed, and upon seeing your red cheeks and distant expression, he gave you a look. “hurry up, my brother isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. i’m sure you’ll get in his pants before you know it.” your jaw dropped open, and you reached inside his room, grabbing the nearest object - which happened to be a book - and throwing it at his head.
“it is a miracle i haven’t killed you yet, edmund pevensie.” you stated, going to close his bedroom door to finally change your drink-stained shirt.
“yes, yes. you love me. now hurry up, you’re taking forever.” you stuck your tongue out at him, and shut the door fully, a smile present on your face as you changed your clothes.
this wasn’t exactly the holiday season you were expecting, but you were suddenly very happy with how things turned out, and you were excited to see what would come next of your stay at the pevensie household. you did know one thing for sure - this was going to be a break you would remember forever, and you couldn’t wait to see what tomorrow would have in store.

being trapped in the glade was something you’d grown accustomed to. it wasn’t good, by any means, but it wasn’t necessarily bad either. there was always moments that you wished you were living a real life, with memories and all, but there were also times that you simply accepted your life as it is and pushed through with a smile.
after two months inside the massive stone walls surrounding you, you had lost all hope of leaving and instead, found a strange sense of comfort in the glade. there was nothing that could be done to get you out, so you managed to come to terms with your situation; this was your home, and it always would be.
some greenies found themselves curious of what lies beyond the safety of the glade. most immediately tried to make a break for the opening sectors, only to be knocked down and warned otherwise.
you however, had never once found yourself questioning what horrors were behind those walls. you’d been told by multiple people that it was a dangerous place, and that was that. you weren’t a curious person, so you accepted that answer and moved on with your life
today you were meant to be working with newt as a trackhoe today, but newt asked you first to collect some dirt in the deadheads as they had been running low and there wasn’t much else for you to do. you happily obliged; you loved spending time there.
though some found it strange, it was your only escape from the mess that was your home. you got along with mostly everyone, though at times it was quite overwhelming and all you wanted to do was get away and have some time to yourself. the deadheads was the quietest place in the glade, so it only seemed fit.
you carried the basket deep into the woods, into the clearing in which you spent your free time. you didn’t necessarily have to go this deep in to get some simple fertilizer, though you knew newt was only looking for something to assign you and you were in no rush. your heart fluttered at the thought of him, a small smile creeping onto your face as you slid down the tree, leaning your back against it.
you see, ever since you arrived in the glade, you and newt have been as close as could be. he was your best friend, hands down. you ate every meal together, and when he was assigned as a trackhoe, you spent every working day together making jokes and laughing (and working of course, he did have a responsibility as second in command).
though you’d only been in the glade for a short amount of time, you began to have more than platonic feelings for your best friend. cliche, yes, but it was hard not to fall for someone who cares so much about you, especially when you had no recollection of anything from your past.
in a daze, you picked up a sharp stone and hazily began to carve his name into the tree. you took your time, carefully drawing each line with precision and delicacy, and underneath writing a small ‘+’ and your name underneath that.
it took much longer than you anticipated, but as you leaned back to look at the final product, you smiled contently. you got up, figuring you should probably head back to the gardens.
you skipped over to newt, a bright smile on your face as you pictured the perfectly carved picture indented in your favourite spot. newt saw you and smiled, before a confused expression crossed his features. “y/n, where’s the basket of fertilizer?” you looked down at your empty hands, blushing bright red when you realized you’d left it in the deadheads.
you flashed newt a guilty smile, and he sighed, shaking his head with a small smile present on his features. “you are unbelievable. it’s almost lunch, you can just go help frypan serve everyone and i’ll go grab the basket.” you agreed, not thinking much of it, and making your way to the kitchens.
newt knew exactly where he was going; there was only one big clearing in the deadheads, and he knew you liked to spend your time alone there. he didn’t ever bother your space, though seeing as it was you and you were very simple-minded, there was no doubt in his mind that he would find the basket there. he pushed through the trees, stepping over countless branches before he arrived. he spotted the basket to the side of the clearing, already full and resting by a tree.
he made his way over, picking up the basket, but something about the tree caught his eye. “strange.” he muttered, putting it down and moving to get a better look. ‘newt + y/n’ was engraved into the tree, and his breath hitched in his throat. you must’ve carved it when you came out here, because he was sure he would’ve seen that sooner if it had been there longer.
a small blush rose to his cheeks as he scanned the perfectly carved wood, and the small hope you might’ve felt the same towards him, intensified. a sudden burst of courage ran through the boy, and he swiftly picked up the basket, making his way to the gardens, a newfound determination in his eyes.
you had finally served all the gladers their meals when newt walked in, making his way straight over to you. “can we eat outside?” he asked, slightly out of breath. you were slightly taken aback by the sudden question, but smiled and agreed nonetheless. you both grabbed your meals and made your way to the hammocks to sit.
an awkward silence had fallen over you two, and you weren’t used to it. he had something to say, that much was obvious to you. you sat in hammocks across from each other, you looking at him expectantly.
“is everything okay newt? you-” you started, but he was quick to interrupt you.
“why did you carve our names into that tree in the deadheads?” you blinked, processing his question, before your cheeks heated up.
“i, uh” you stuttered, not really knowing how to answer. newt was looking at you with something different in his eyes, an emotion you hardly recognized.
“well?” he asked, impatiently. the red on your cheeks darkened, and newt took that as a good sign. he stood, putting his platter on the ground before making his way over to you, and without warning, pressed his lips to yours softly. you responded immediately, kissing back just as delicately, though you both expressed much passion through the kiss.
“why didn’t you just say something?” newt whispered, pulling back only enough to look you in your eyes.
“why didn’t you?” you shot back, a challenging smirk present on your lips, despite the earlier embarrassment.
“i suppose it doesn’t really matter now.” he started, “oh, and by the way, you look really cute when you’re blushing.” a boyish grin made its way onto his face, causing you to shove him gently. newt was quick to catch himself, leaning in to capture your lips once again. he had waited too long for this, and he sure as hell wasn’t going to waste this moment.
you pulled back, “you know, alby is never going to let me work in the gardens again.” you laughed, and he only shook his head in laughter.
“way to ruin the moment.” he grumbled, but he couldn't bring himself to be too angry with you.
“well, we could stay here and keep kissing, or we could run now before someone catches us.” you pointed to the waves of boys exiting the kitchens, newt pouting. “come on, lover boy. we’ve got work to do.” you tugged gently on his hand, pulling him back towards the gardens.
this may have been your last day working together, but you were going to make it count. you spent the rest of the day goofing off with newt, and you wouldn’t have had it any other way.
