a/n: sapnap said his favourite sport to play and watch was basketball and this is what my mind did with that information. also thank you for 800 followers!
tw: swearing?, school mention, bit of flirting
youâd dealt with it since you were young. both your parents having been teachers, your mother being an elementary teacher and your father being a high school teacher, youâd always felt the favouritism and familiarity that come with being the child of a teacher.
as you got older, the more accustomed you got to it all. especially in high school, since your father also happened to be the coach of the boysâ basketball team, and though âfootballâ is usually the go-to sport of a typical american high school, your school excelled at basketball. which, by default, meant he was very well-known and well-respected by the student body.
much to your distaste, this meant a lot of potential boyfriends were scared off by your dadâs menacing glares and empty threats - a coach can be very, very scary when he wants to be - especially if said boy happened to be on his team. by your sheer luck, your crush happened to be his star player.
luckily, having your dad as the coach proved to be quite useful in the boysâ aspect. youâd stopped by countless practices, making up an excuse about not wanting to take the bus on that particular evening, and watching the rest of practice without question. you couldnât do it too often to avoid suspicions, but your father taught you well and you probably understood the game better than half the actual players, anyways. it wasnât hard to pretend to be interested.
game nights were even better excuses, because not only were you there alone, but most nights the entire school showed up, and with the perk of arriving early with the coach, you always got the best seats, where you could shamelessly and inconspicuously watch him, number 01 on the court. like every high school jock ever, he went by a nickname. sapnap.
he was so much more than a simple jock, in your eyes. he was one of the kindest boys in your grade, always offering smiles everywhere he went, and though he was aware of his advanced skill in the sport, he was always humble.
maybe thatâs why you fell for him. or maybe it was the lingering glances the two of you would share in each of the classes you had together. or maybe, just maybe, it was the idea you couldnât be with him, the idea that your dad would make his life miserable.
that was, if he ever found out.
it wasnât an easy feat, the two of you hiding from your father. from time to time, you swore he knew about your secret, subtle conversations seemingly hinting at something more - but he was old, and naive. there was no way he wouldnât have said something by now.
you walked into the lunch room, glancing around and looking for a certain head of brown hair. once you spotted him in his signature letterman jacket, you slipped into the seat next to him, smiling as you nudged him purposely. he smiled down at you, and did a quick glance of the cafeteria, before leaning down and placing a small kiss on your lips. you smiled brightly, heat creeping up your cheeks. youâd never get over the way he made you feel.
âcoming to practice tonight?â he asked, and you rolled your eyes playfully, letting out an exaggerated huff.
âdo i have to?â you pouted, and he laughed, wrapping an arm around you as he did so. you werenât too fond of the confidence radiating off of him, so you decided to fire back slightly. âdonât get me wrong, youâre really hot when you play. like, really hot.â you started, watching out of the corner of your eye as his eyes flew open and he gaped at you, jaw dropped. âbut you guys have the big game tonight, so iâll be watching you play later anyways!â
sapnap swallowed, before taking a second to recompose himself. âthe game is why you should come tonight! câmon, y/n. maybe you can even give us some pointers, since youâre so interested in the sport.â he teased, and you rolled your eyes, shaking your head.
âi swear, tommy doesnât know what a layup is! how does he mess it up every time? itâs just a few steps and a shot!â you complained, and sapnap laughed, basking in the moment. youâd never admit it to anyone, but you liked that you knew enough about the sport to hold a conversation with your boyfriend. though you werenât interested in the sport itself, it was nice to be able to talk with sapnap about something he cared so dearly for.
he leaned down then, placing his mouth next to your ear, smirking at the hitch in your breath at his proximity. âjust come tonight. for me.â sapnap whispered, and you sighed, nodding. he smiled brightly, tugging you towards him, and wrapping you in a tight hug.
and thus you found yourself doing homework on the empty bleachers once more, stealing glances at the court every so often. you watched as the team played a quick 5v5, the ball being stolen, passed and shot, you adding in your two cents every few plays. before you could even process it, the practice had ended.
âalright boys, bring it in!â your dad called, and the group quickly filed in, forming a small circle around him. âi need you all here for 6:30, no later or youâre benched. game starts at 7:00 sharp. tonight is important, people. if we win this game, weâre moving onto the championships.â his firm tone echoed in the large gym, and the boys let out a series of whoops and cheers. ânow get out, iâll see you guys this evening!â he dismissed, and the boys cheered once more, parading out of the gym as a unit.
a certain brunette glanced up at you as he passed, flashing you his signature âi-just-killed-that-shitâ smirk, and you softly smiled back, only for a moment, before turning your attention back to gathering your things, as to not keep your father too long. the two of you headed home, chatting about the excitement for the night ahead.
âi really think you guys have a chance at beating the other team. especially if the guys play like they did at that practice!â you babbled, your dad nodding in agreement. he seemed to be thinking deeply, and you paused, turning to face him. âdad? is something wrong?â you asked, nervously.
âno, no. nothingâs wrong. just thinking about something.â he assured you, and you sighed, motioning for him to continue. âwell, kid. youâve practically been training these guys as much as i have - i donât think i couldâve managed this team as well as i have without you. what do you say, why don't you sit on the bench with me as assistant coach?â he prompted, and you blinked in surprise.
âiâd love to!â you exclaimed, jumping forward and tackling him in a tight embrace. he smiled, returning it, before pulling back and gathering his things from the bench.
âi forgot my keys in my classroom, you can just wait here while i run upstairs. sound good?â he asked, and you smiled, nodding. he left, and you sighed happily, basking in the recognition you didnât feel you deserved, but certainly appreciated.
âassistant coach, huh?â a familiar voice asked, and you turned instantly, smiling even brighter at his slightly disheveled appearance, his hair wet from a quick shower. he stepped towards you, quickly pulling you by your hips when you were within reach, tugging you so that the two of you stood face to face, lips only inches apart from one another. you giggled dreamily, slowly leaning forward and pressing your soft lips to his slightly chapped ones.
he pulled away slightly, and you paused, confused. âassistant coach sounds pretty hot.â he mumbled, and you pulled away, dramatically slapping his chest. âow!â he mocked, and you rolled your eyes, grabbing him by his sweatshirt and pulling him back to you, leaving a searing kiss on his lips. he squeaked in surprise, hands flying back to your waist, before you pulled away completely with an evil smirk.
âgood luck, lover boy.â you teased, and your timing seemed perfect as ever, hearing your dad call for you only seconds later. âcoming dad!â you picked up your things, sapnap still frozen in place, cheeks flushed. âsee you tonight.â you whispered as you passed, scurrying off before he could get in another word.
the next few hours leading up to the game could not have been any longer. you tried to do homework, reading, drawing - anything to help pass the time. all attempts ended futile though, and you settled for texting sapnap mindlessly, the two of you radiating excitement. after what felt like a lifetime, your dad called for you to gather what you needed and to head to the car, and you didnât need to be told twice.
once you arrived, you began making your way to the bleachers, before pausing and turning towards the bench, following your dad, who looked at you proudly as you sauntered over, taking a seat next to him. the team walked into the gym, uniforms on and stretching as they advanced. âget warmed up guys!â your dad announced, and they instantly obliged. as they practiced, students filed into the bleachers, bearing banners and school colours - from both schools.
a whistle blew, and the teams retracted to their benches, your dad pulling out his clipboard. âokay, sap - youâre going to start here..â he explained each playerâs positions and the tactics they planned on using, and with a small cheer, your boyfriend led his teammates onto the court, standing face to face as he prepared to jump for the ball. the ball was tossed, and the game commenced.
the scores were neck and neck, with the score 52-53 for you, with two minutes remaining. âjust one more, guys.â you muttered under your breath, anxiously watching the group of boys fighting over the ball, intercepting passing and maneuvering around each other. you glanced at the clock as the time passed quickly, down to the last minute thirty. âget the ball to sapnap!â your dad called, and the team scrambled to grab ahold of the ball. sam quickly stole it mid-pass, quickly spotting sapnap, who waved his arms frantically. sam threw the ball, and sapnap caught it easily, but was quickly swarmed by the other team. he held the ball tightly, glancing for an opening. he saw two options: he could push through the guy in front of him and run down the court, but he also spotted tommy at the other end of the court, right by the opponent's net, completely unblocked.
in the last few minutes, dream was injured and tommy was subbed in, though he wasnât usually someoneâs go to - hence why he had no defence whatsoever. they didnât see him as a threat. with only seconds to spare, sapnap made his split-second decision and called out âtommy!â, before tossing the ball confidently, and tommy froze for a moment as the ball landed in his arms.
âtommy! do a layup!â you yelled in a panic, and he quickly sprung to life, dribbling once before taking two small steps and leaping, shooting the ball against the headboard. everyone held their breaths as the ball bounced around the rim, before settling and tipping into the net, just as the final buzzer went off. the bleachers erupted into cheers, and you joined in, the team all rushing onto the court to pick up tommy onto their shoulders in celebration.
you momentarily forgot about your dad, and beaming with excitement, you ran towards sapnap. you threw your arms around him instantly, mumbling congratulations. he laughed, wrapping his arms around your lower waist and picking you up, spinning you around. when he gently placed you on the ground, you reached up, kissing him softly. he returned the motion, and as you both pulled back, there was a twinkle of pure fondness in his eyes.
âahem.â a deep voice called, and you tensed, slipping out of your boyfriend's embrace and looking guiltily at your dad, expecting a face of pure anger. instead, your jaw almost dropped as you saw a proud smile across your dadâs face.
âdad?â you questioned, your voice laced with pure confusion. your dad laughed out loud at this, and you frowned. you waited for a moment for his laughter to die down, wondering why he wasnât trying to rip your boyfriend's head off. âare you okay?â you asked, hesitantly.
âokay? of course iâm okay.â he scoffed, waving off your discomfort. âiâm just surprised you lasted as long as you did!â
you and sapnap glanced at each other, silently asking if either of you understood what was going on. you didnât. âuh, iâm not sure what you mean, coach.â sapnap chriped, and your dad gave him a âseriously?â look.
âcâmon you two, you donât seriously think i didnât know youâve been seeing each other this whole time.â he asked, and the two of you gaped, awestruck.
âyou knew and you didnât say anything?â you asked, shellshocked. your mind was running a mile a minute, unable to process what your dad was really saying.
your dad shrugged, âi thought youâd tell me when you were ready.â when you and sapnap stayed quiet, he sighed. ây/n, you know sapnap is my favourite student iâve had. if youâre going to have a boyfriend at your age, which i still donât think is really appropriate-â
âdad!â you defended, and he chuckled.
âsorry, sorry. anyways, if youâre going to be dating someone, i'm glad itâs him. youâre a good kid, sap. just donât be an idiot and break their heart, or else. got it?â his tone was slightly joking, but the underlying threat was clear. sapnap smiled, nodding.
âi would never, coach.â his words were confident, smooth. it was a promise to both you and your dad, and you smiled, reaching for his hand and giving a small squeeze. âsay, coach.â sapnap paused, and your dad nodded, motioning for him to continue. âwould you mind if i took y/n out to celebrate? iâll drive them back home by 11.â
your dad smiled fondly, nodding. âi suppose that could be arranged. i would suggest, however, you shower first though, sap.â he teased, and sapnap sputtered, taken off guard. your dad laughed, turning and walking away from the pair of you. âsee, good kid.â he mumbled, mostly to himself.
once sapnap had gathered his things, the two of you had driven to a park not far from the school, some fast food youâd stopped to get on the way in hand. you simply sat in his seats, soaking in silence as you ate. a thought curiously prodded at your mind, and you decided to indulge it.
âcan i ask you something, sap?â you questioned, and he nodded, glancing your way. âwhy didnât you make a break for it? i know you saw the opening i did. instead, you gave up your shining moment and gave the ball to tommy, you let him have it.â your words werenât judgemental, simply curious and slightly surprised. sapnap chuckled, leaning back in his seat.
âi donât need the glory all of the time. i get the team relies on me a lot, but they donât need to. they're just too scared to make the risky moves on their own.â he paused, thinking. âbesides, tommy was unguarded, and he works well under pressure. i had no doubt heâd make the shot.â he shrugged, and you smiled fondly at him, leaning over the console and pressing a small kiss to his cheek.
âyouâre perfect, you know that?â you mumbled, and he smiled, reaching over and cupping your cheek lovingly. you stared in silence for a moment, simply soaking in each other's presence.
his lips tugged up into a smile, before he began to whisper. âyou know, the real reason i donât need the glory is because i have the best prize already, sitting right in front of me.â you couldnât fight the smile making its way onto your face.
âyouâll always be a winner in my heart.â you whispered, and he beamed, pressing his lips to yours once more.
âas long as i have you, iâll always feel like a winner.â he mumbled against your lips, and as the two of you continued to kiss over the console of his car, you couldnât help but feel like a winner yourself.

anon asked: "i am sapnap quenched, may I pls have some sapnap angst like maybe he gets jealous or there is a misunderstanding between you two causing an argument but it results in fluff"
a/n: i already had started this au, and anon gave me inspo to finish it! i hope this satisfies your sapnap needs :)
tw: couple of swears, angst to fluff!
in the movies, high school was all about the social hierarchy. the jocks and preps ruled the schools, while the nerds resided at the very bottom, with nothing to show but their shamed fashion and annoyingly high test grades.
when you got to high school, you imagined it would be different. it wasnât, really. sure, it may not have been quite as eccentric as the movies foretold, but the gist of it remained. the athletes and cheerleaders held their heads high, though you guessed their status was more so earned from their bullying and threats rather than the sports they played. nerds were still disregarded, but they didn't all have horrible taste in clothes, if you did say so yourself.
brushing off your chosen outfit of the day, you sighed as you slid your books out of your bag, filing them nicely into your locker. you pulled out your book for your first class, sighing as the sounds of students scrambling about filled your ears. just another day at smp high.
âmorning, y/n!â your friends wilbur and niki smiled as they approached, wilburâs arm thrown lazily around nikiâs shoulders. you arched a brow, but the two of them ignored your look, more than used to your antics.
âmorning, guys.â you mumbled, finally shutting your locker and slipping off with the two of them, walking towards your first class.
ârough morning, y/n?â niki asked, frowning slightly. you shrugged, fighting off a yawn as the three of you stopped in front of the door. the two of them began the morning with music, while you started with chemistry.
âiâll be fine once the coffee kicks in. donât worry about me, have fun in class.â you smiled reassuringly, waving the two off as they entered the class, you continued down the hallway, avoiding teenagers running frantically to get to their homerooms on time.
you calmly reached your lab, entering and seating yourself in the same seat, in the far left of the class, middle row. also unlike the infamous ânerdyâ stereotypes, you didnât enjoy sitting front and center, and kept to yourself unless called upon. you quietly opened your book as instructed on the board in front of you, just as the bell for the period rang.
the lesson dragged on, you taking notes all the while. before you knew it, the bell rang once more, dismissing the class. you began to pile your things, when suddenly an arm came by and swept under your things, sending them all tumbling to the floor. you looked up, fighting the urge to roll your eyes.
âoops.. sorry about that.â sapnap snickered sarcastically. his friends behind him, dream and george, laughed loudly. you kept your expression stoic as you bent down to collect your things, scoffing at their childish actions.
the âdream teamâ as they insisted to be addressed, quickly got bored and left, probably to bully some freshman. they were your typical star athletes, with dream captaining and sapnap playing on the football team, and george captaining the soccer team. as most âjocksâ do, they had over inflated egos and you couldn't stand them.
as you gathered the materials off the floor, you noticed a small folded note. you looked around, but you realized you were the last student so you swept it into your pile and quickly made your way back to your locker to swap your books. you pulled out the note curiously, unfolding it.
ây/n. meet me under the bleachers after class.â you frowned, blinking down at the small crumpled paper in your hand. there was no signature, but you knew exactly who it wrote the message from the messy handwriting. sighing, you threw the note back into your locker, pulling out your next book, and pushing it out of your mind.
the rest of the day was uneventful, until the final bell rang and you quickly threw your books into your bag messily. niki and wilbur looked at you concerned, exchanging a small glance. they decided not to speak on it though, simply rearranging their own lockers for the night.
âiâm gonna walk home today, i think. itâs been a long day, and i could use the fresh air.â you spoke boredly, nervously gripping the straps on your backpack. your two best friends only nodded, and bid you a goodbye as they made their way to wilburâs car. you huffed, closing your locker and heading in the other direction once they were out of sight.
you knew they werenât stupid. they had to know something was up by now. you wanted to tell them everything; but he asked you not to. you wanted to tell wilbur and niki so badly about him, but the overwhelming need to please your boyfriend overpowered your own desire. for awhile, anyways. now you were starting to feel the drift in your friendship, and you were tired.
you arrived at the bleachers, seeing his broad frame anxiously awaiting your arrival. sapnapâs eyes beamed as he saw you approaching, opening his arms for a hug. you walked into his arms, but very half-heartedly reciprocated the hug. he pulled away, frowning.
âwhatâs wrong?â he asked, gently placing his hands on your shoulders, holding you in place as his eyes darted around your face in search of something wrong. you only shrugged his hands off, turning your back to him. sapnap knew something was very, very wrong by now. you usually basked in the short amount of time the two of you shared under the bleachers.
ây/n, youâre scaring me.â he whispered, and you sighed, crossing your arms and rubbing them comfortingly, reassuring yourself. you turned back around, now a decent distance set between you and your lover.
âi donât know how much more of this i can take, sap.â you breathed, and his expression dropped immediately. he opened his mouth to speak, but you shook your head, silencing him. âthis, us. itâs ruining me. you spend every waking minute of the day throwing things at me, breaking my stuff. then we come here for 10 short minutes every day to kiss, and then you leave again!â
âiâm trying to make this work-â he tried, but you once again, cut him off. you werenât finished.
âno, youâre not! you wonât even let me tell my two closest friends - who, by the way, iâm losing because of you! soon iâll be left with nothing! this isnât a healthy relationship sapnap, and iâm sick of it!â you were shouting now, and you watched as his eyes darted nervously around, hoping no one heard you. you scoffed.
âyou care so much about your reputation youâre more worried about someone hearing me, than you yourself hearing what iâm saying.â you stepped back then, desperately trying to fight the tears threatening to spill from your eyes. sapnap noticed, gulping harshly; he too was fighting tears.
âthatâs not true, and you know it. i love you!â he choked, taking a step forward, and you shook your head softly, taking another step back.
âdo you?â your voice cracked, and the two simple words broke both your hearts. you glanced at his face, only to force yourself to look away. you had never seen him so broken, and it was your fault. no. it was his fault, he did this to you both. without another word, you turned, leaving the heartbroken boy you loved so much, crying under the bleachers alone.
sapnap stood in pure shock as you left, a sickening feeling rising in his chest as the weight of your words hit him like a truck. you thought he didnât love you. he sunk to the ground, silent sobs wracking his body. he didnât once think about the fact football practice was starting, and that he was going to miss it. he didnât care about that - he cared about you.
he wasnât sure how long he sat under those bleachers, replaying every memory the two of you shared, trying to figure out where he went wrong. maybe it was the time someone almost caught the two of you making out under the seats, and he pushed you to the ground without a second thought, switching back to his typical bully persona. maybe it was the multiple times he promised heâd take you out for a real date, and never really did.
it wasnât. he knew the real reason why you were upset.
the two of you laid in the grass under the bleachers, you simply resting your head on his shoulder as you talked about anything and everything. this was your first rendezvous in your newly declared âspotâ, it was exciting and romantic all at once.
âhey, y/n?â sapnap called, and with a hum in response from you, continued. âcan we, you know, keep this between us for now?â he asked, sheepishly. heâd just been personally accepted as dreamâs right hand man, and was trying to perfect his image in this shitty school hierarchy. you never cared about it, but you knew he did. âitâs not because of you, itâs just-â
âof course, you donât need to explain. i understand.â you smiled, and he relaxed, visibly. âjust maybe not forever?â you added, hopefully. he smiled brightly, nodding quickly.
âi couldnât keep you a secret forever, angel. in fact, i canât wait to show you off to the whole school, and let them know youâre mine.â his words were like music to your ears, and you kissed him passionately, taking him completely off guard. the two of you pulled away laughing, simply enjoying each other's presence.
that was one of sapnapâs favourite memories of the two of you. ever since that day, tradition was to meet under the bleachers after school whenever possible. the visits became less and less frequent however, with dream demanding more practices and after-school hangouts. 4 months later, sapnap still hadnât brought you up to anyone, and now as he pondered his relationship, realized he also neglected you.
determination flooded him, and he stood. he wasnât going to let your relationship end like this, not without a fight. he quickly ran to the locker room, finding dream addressing some future tactics with punz. âdream!â sapnap called, and everyoneâs attention flicked to him, some sending him worried glances.
âyou missed practice.â dreamâs voice cut through the silence, anger leaking from his tone. his eyes met sapnapâs, however, and softened immediately at the pain visible in his eyes. âokay guys, dismissed. get out of here.â dream announced, and the team whooped and hollered as they filed out of the locker room. soon, it was just the two boys standing in silence.
âyou gonna tell me why youâve been crying?â dream asked, a somewhat teasing tone attempting to mask the real concern he felt for the boy. sapnap was like a younger brother to him, he hated seeing him this way.
âi-have-a-significant-other.â sapnap rushed, and dream gave him a confused look. sapnap sighed, wringing his fingers nervously. âi, uh, sort of.. maybe have a significant other?â he muttered, and dream blinked, suddenly let out a loud laugh. sapnap flushed, embarrassed as dream began laughing uncontrollably, hunched over as wheezes slipped past his lips. tears welled up in sapnapâs eyes again, muttering a small ânevermindâ as he turned to leave.
âno- no wait.â dream wheezed, desperately trying to collect himself. âsorry, sorry it's just - yeah. y/n. what about them?â he managed, breathing heavily after his intense fit of laughter. sapnap froze, turning back to dream.
âwhat did you just say?â sapnap asked, and dream chuckled, much more calm this time.
ây/n? the super smart kid youâve been teasing nonstop for the entire year? yeah, george and i have known for a while. youâre not exactly subtle, sapnap.â dream explained, and sapnap flushed.
âwhat.. why didnât you say anything then?â sapnap exclaimed, panic settling in. heâd put you through so much pain to keep this from dream, when heâd known all along?
âyou didnât ever mention them, we figured you would tell us when you felt ready.â dream shrugged, taking a swig from his water bottle. sapnap smiled a bit at this, but let out a heavy sigh.
âi really fucked up with them, dream. i donât know what to do.â sapnap admitted, and he explained the situation to him in detail. dream listened intently, frowning as he came to a realization.
âsap, you.. you didnât do this because you thought iâd stop being friends with you, did you?â he asked, hesitantly. sapnap didnât answer, only dropping his gaze to the floor in response. dream sighed, bringing the younger male into a hug. sapnap startled, but clung to the boy desperately. âdonât worry, weâll fix this.â dream muttered, and smirked as a plan started to form in his head. âi have an idea.â
the next morning, you arrived at school looking nothing short of a mess. you tried to hide the redness of your eyes, and failed miserably. hence why when half the school looked at you as you walked sluggishly to your locker, you thought nothing of it. you simply kept your head down and only lifted it when reaching your destination. instead of the regular brown metal however, your locker had sapnapâs jersey pinned to it.
you blinked, flushing as you realized everyoneâs eyes were on you not because you looked like youâd been to hell and back, but because of this. you swallowed, swiftly pulling the jersey off of your locker and holding it in your hands, staring at it in wonder.
âi was hoping youâd wear it to our game friday night.â his voice cut through the buzzing chatter of students crystal clear, and you slowly turned to see sapnap standing with your favourite drink in hand, offering it to you sheepishly.
âwhat the- what are you doing?â you whispered, completely overwhelmed by the gestures being thrown your way. sapnap sighed, swallowing thickly.
âiâve been a horrible boyfriend, y/n. you deserve so much better than what iâve been treating you - and youâre right. it wasnât fair of me to ask you to lie to your friends, or to hide under the bleachers. none of it was okay. i wasnât lying yesterday. i want to make this work - i love you. if youâll give me another chance, iâll do better. iâll be better. if you donât want to though, i understand-â he rambled, and more tears welled up in your eyes.
âshut up and let me talk..â you cut him off, and he shut his mouth instantly. âno one has ever done anything like this for me. i love you too, sapnap. of course iâll give you another chance.â you smiled, pulling him into a passionate kiss. claps and cheers echoed around you, and you pulled away, laughing at the situation in front of you.
suddenly, the football team came and clapped sapnap on the back, a chorus of âsimpnap!â cheers following. he pouted, but you only shrugged, showing off the jersey in your hands. he sighed, accepting defeat. âonly for you.â he whispered to you, and you smiled impossibly brighter.
the first warning bell went off, students left and right quickly scrambling away from the scene, and you followed suit, gently folding the jersey and placing it in your locker. âso? will you wear it to the game on friday?â sapnap asked, and you almost jumped - youâd figured heâd left with the crowd.
you pretended to think about it, seeing another adorable pout adorn sapnapâs expression. âon one condition.â you claimed, and sapnap looked at you expectantly. beckoning him closer with a finger, you leaned up to his ear, your voice barely a whisper. âmeet me under the bleachers after class?â

ây/n, iâd like to speak with you after class.â the words no student ever wants to hear. you forced a smile, nodding to your teacher who looked mildly disappointed in your abilities, or in your case, lack thereof.
if only you hadnât been late to school on the day you were meant to sign up for courses, maybe you wouldâve gotten into the courses youâd actually be good at. unfortunately for you, the odds were not in your favour, and youâd ended up in the last class you wanted to take. computer science.
it wasnât to say the class wasnât interesting, no, it was. it just wasnât your forte. coding and scripting, all of the combinations you should know seemed to jumble together, and you couldnât write a basic program. easy to say, you were failing. hence why you were hanging back by the teacherâs desk as your peers filed out of the room.
ây/n, iâm sure youâre aware as to why youâre here.â your teacher spoke, and you sighed, nodding. he pinched his noise in slight frustration, pausing for a moment before returning his gaze to you. âi know youâre a good student. excelling in every course, except this one. mind filling me in on why?â
you shuffled under his pressing gaze, swallowing hard. âi try, i really do. it just.. doesnât make sense to me. at all.â you admitted, rubbing your arm in an attempt to calm yourself from the stress-inducing situation.
âhave you considered switching courses?â he asked, kindly. he wasnât one of those dreadful i-hate-kids-why-did-i-become-a-teacher sort of instructor, moreso the kind that would checkup on students, freely give extensions, and genuinely enjoys his job.
âall other classes during this period are full.â you explained, and he sighed, eyes glancing to his monitor screen, where an open copy of one of your previous assignments laid.
âiâm going to be honest with you, y/n. if you keep submitting work like this, iâm going to have no choice but to fail you. you didnât even attempt half the questions. i know youâre struggling, but i want to help you get through this course, without ruining your gpa too much.â he spoke softly, and you inhaled shakily, the realization of failure dawning on you. your teacher noticed, standing up and placing a comforting hand on your shoulder.
âiâve made up an easier version of this assignment. if you can get through it, iâll replace the grade of your first assignment with this one, and itâll raise your grade significantly.â he handed you a paper with instructions, and you gulped as you skimmed through, knowing you likely wouldnât be able to do any of this. âi canât help you with it, but i also canât stop you from getting other help, should you need it.â he winked, and dismissed you. you thanked him, gathering your things and leaving, heading straight for the library.
you huffed, sitting down at one of the many school computers and logged in, bringing up the necessary programs. you ended up typing in random sequences you remembered from class, and sighed when you reread your work, completely unsure of whether what you were doing was even close to right. you groaned quietly, placing your head in your hands.
âuh, excuse me?â a voice called from behind you, and you turned, quirking a brow in question. âis this computer taken? all the other ones are full.â he rubbed the back of his neck awkwardly. you glanced around, seeing the other computers were, in fact, taken.
âitâs not taken, you can sit.â you smiled, grabbing the pile of your things youâd placed in front of said computer and placing them on the ground by your feet. he thanked you, sitting down and logging into his own account.
the two of you didnât talk after that, simply tuning into your respective screens. you continued fumbling with various codes, eventually getting frustrated. clearly you werenât hiding it well, because the boy next to you looked at you strangely, before deciding to mind his business and leave you be.
once you decided enough was enough, you leaned back into the hard plastic chair, stretching your arms. your eyes glanced over to the screen of the boy next to you, and you gasped, eyes wide. you caught his attention, him turning to see what caused your sudden surprise. he didnât expect you to be looking at his screen.
you leaned forward, swiftly turning his monitor to face you, eyes dancing over the hundreds of words in the language of code on his screen. âholy shit, this is insane!â you whispered, and he flushed, embarrassed by your sudden compliment.
âuh, thanks?â he muttered, running a hand through his messy brown hair. you blinked, suddenly hyper-aware of how strange you must sound at that moment, and retracted back into your seat, clearing your throat.
âi, uh.â you stuttered, and then sighed, offering him an awkward smile. âsorry, uh. itâs just iâm taking computer science, well, failing computer science, actually.â you frowned, gesturing to your screen, before continuing. âbut anyways, nothing we do is like this! you must be really advanced.â
he gave you a look you didn't quite recognize, but you blinked and his expression was understanding, so you brushed it off. âiâm not that good..â he shrugged, and you gaped at him, unbelieving.
âseriously? that looks sick! not that i know what any of it means, or does, but..â you chuckled, and he smiled kindly at you.
âwell, i guess i know a thing or two.â he explained modestly, and your eyes lit up, hope flooding your body.
âi know we just met, and we donât really know eachother, but could you help me with my assignment? i really need to get a good grade on it, or iâll fail the course and ruin my gpa. youâd be doing me a huge favour?â you asked, practically begging. he smiled, nodding. you quickly turned your monitor towards him, and showed him the assignment.
he skimmed through the page, glancing up at your screen and back down, before nodding to himself. âseems easy enough. you just start byâŚâ
not only did he manage to help you through your assignment, but you actually learned a thing or two from him. you quickly saved and emailed the file to your professor, slumping back in your seat in pure relief. the boy next to you chuckled, and it was then that you realized, you didnât even know his name.
âthank you so much, uh..â you hesitated, subtly hinting for him to bring up his name. he chuckled, shaking his head lightly.
âso it takes doing a whole assignment together for you to ask for someoneâs name. interesting.â he teased, and you mockingly gasped, throwing a hand over your heart dramatically. âitâs george, by the way.â he added, winking as he saved his work and logged off his monitor.
ây/n.â you said, and he nodded, gathering his things. âseriously though, george. you saved my ass. i owe you.â you smiled, genuinely, and he returned it.
âdonât mention it.â he scratched the back of his neck once more, before bidding you goodbye. you smiled as you watched his retreating figure, shaking your head with a smile and logging off the monitor, heading home for the day.
the next day flew by, and finally your last period rolled around, and for the first time, you walked into the computer science room with a smile on your face. you walked over to the teacherâs desk, waiting for him to finish with another student. you glanced around the room as you waited, your eyes falling upon a familiar head of fluffy brown hair. âgeorge?â you whispered to yourself, but your teacher calling your name brought you out of your thoughts, and you tuned into the conversation.
ây/n, this is excellent work! iâm happy to say this will boost your mask well into passing.â he whispered excitedly, and you smiled proudly.
âi canât take all the credit sir, i had someone very talented help me with it.â you admitted, slightly raising your voice so that a certain someone would hear it. he did, it seemed, from the way you noticed he straightened in his seat out of the corner of your eye. you chatted for a bit longer, before you were dismissed so he could help another student.
rather than sitting in your usual corner by yourself, you sauntered over to where your saviour sat, tapping him gently on the shoulder, catching his attention. âuh, excuse me. is this computer taken?â you mocked his previous introduction, and he swiveled around, sending you a glare.
âyes, actually. it is.â he fired back sassily, and you deflated a little, glancing somewhere else. however, when your gaze moved back to the boy in front of you, you spotted the devious smirk that littered his lips.
âyouâre an ass.â you muttered, pulling out the chair and seating yourself next to him.
âyouâre the one who asked me to sit.â he argued, shrugging and turning his attention to the monitor in front of him. you didnât speak again, mimicking his actions with a growing smile. you were tackling a much easier assignment than george, but for the first time ever, you understood what was being asked, and if you didnât, luckily you had a very smart peer sitting right by your side.
suddenly, you felt like maybe taking computer science wouldnât be so bad after all.
[bonus]
dream came barreling down the hallway, huffing as he stepped foot into the classroom, offering a sheepish grin to his teacher, who simply shook his head at his tardiness. dream stepped towards his usual spot, but paused upon seeing his regular seat was occupied.
maybe he wouldâve said something had he not watched george whisper in their ear and send them into a fit of giggles, but he decided today, he could simply sit somewhere else.
and tease the shit out of george later.
whoops didn't realize my last one wasn't anon. but thanks!
