So My Friend And I Were Talking About The New Episode, And They Pointed Out Something That Made Me Realize

So my friend and I were talking about the new episode, and they pointed out something that made me realize something else. Long post btw that will contain spoilers for FTF.

So well all know that Raine gets possessed and Belos uses their body to manipulate the Collector. But something that I didn't notice until my friend pointed it out and I rewatched the episode was that it was actually foreshadowed

In the first two minutes when Raine's rhapsody played in the background it looked like it was playing because of Eda and Raine and because Raine started simping for Eda's harpy form. But still, out of all the music that's been used, why would they use Raine's rhapsody when Raine didn't even know the Collector existed? And they showed the Collector and Raine in the same scene, not only that but they showed Raine very clearly seeing the Collector. All of this was foreshadowing.

The next time we see Raine, they're a puppet along with the rest of the coven heads. And when it shows the coven heads about to attack Eda, Raine is focused on specifically, and their glasses shine

At first I thought that was just because Eda wanted to visit Raine and their glasses shined for dramatic effect. But rewatching the episode, there are a few other specific moments where their glasses shine.

When Belos was going to find the Collector with their body

And when Belos was telling the Collector that they're in danger.

Not to mention why would Odalia use them to help her with the other puppets when she's never even talked to them? And why wouldn't she choose Darius, an obviously much stronger witch physically and magically (love the bard coven and Raine but Darius can do a lot more with his magic than Raine can with their's) especially when they were shown to have known each other as kids? Certainly she knew that Darius was a coven head.

So My Friend And I Were Talking About The New Episode, And They Pointed Out Something That Made Me Realize

All of this was foreshadowing. Odalia using Raine to help her like Belos used Raine to help him. Raine's glasses shining every time the glasses are in full view from when we first see them as a puppet to when Belos uses them to manipulate the Collector, and Raine's rhapsody being used as the background music when they woke up from the draining spell and saw the Collector for the first time. All of this was foreshadowing to them being possessed.

Side note: I think the reason Belos chose Raine and not Odalia was because Odalia wouldn't fight against him if she decided to and also because since Raine is a puppet and the Collector has never interacted with them beforehand, they don't know Raine's personality and don't know what to expect from Raine. He does know what to expect from Odalia though, and although Belos didn't know that, I think he still got the basic idea because Odalia was obviously conscious and not a puppet while Raine obviously wasn't conscious and was a puppet. Plus they know that Raine is a coven head. But the idea that Belos just has higher standards than Odalia is way funnier so forget what I just said.

Anyways, this whole theory is probably a stretch, but personally it makes a lot of sense to me and this show has great and subtle ways of foreshadowing as seen as early as season 1, so I just think this was just the show being clever with its foreshadowing again.

Amphibia Season 3 Thoughts/Review

image

Season 3 of Amphibia is easily the most divisive season among the fanbase. There are a lot of different reasons for this but I think it primarily comes down to tone and pacing.

The reason why the issues with tone and pacing are so prominent is because of how it followed up True Colors. True Colors came in and seemed to promise that things would never be the same. It created a scenario for Anne and the Plantars that was very desperate. Sasha was left in Amphibia, Marcy had been stabbed (and for all they knew was dead), Amphibia was in imminent danger, and earth was going to be invaded next.

All of this should have created a massive sense of urgency and worry, but this doesn’t carry over very well into many of the episodes. The tonal whiplash that occurs when you watch True Colors and The New Normal back to back is massive. It goes from that gut punch of an ending to Anne being excited that she has wifi for the first time in months so quickly that it’s almost as if the characters forgot what happened.

Amphibia Season 3 Thoughts/Review

When the show does address the sense of urgency the characters should have it is always on Anne’s end. Anne is the one staying up researching how to get back, Anne is the one trying to drop everything for new leads, Anne is the one losing sleep over the situation. The most the Plantars show on their end is homesickness.

They are frequently the ones telling Anne to be careful or calm down which seems odd because they should have very pressing and important reasons for wanting to get back beyond missing their home.

In season 2 the heroes’ lack of urgency made sense. They didn’t know about Andrias’ plans, the core, or Sasha’s toad rebellion. The episodes where they explored Newtopia or visited towns on their travels fit much better because of their gap in knowledge and like I said previously those episodes usually found a way to keep the story moving forward or have important character moments so that they rarely distracted from the plot.

Amphibia Season 3 Thoughts/Review

In season 3 there’s too much hanging over the characters’ heads that they know about for it to feel organic watching the episodes back to back.

This isn’t to say that what happens on the earth half of the season is bad. The content is actually very enjoyable. Watching the role reversal between Anne and the Plantars is fun and we get to see even more of Anne’s culture and home life which is always a welcome addition.

The exploration of Anne’s family and culture is one of the best things about the first half of the season. The Thai Temple episode (Temple Frogs) in particular is one of my favorites.

Amphibia Season 3 Thoughts/Review

It has Anne displaying the urgency that some episodes were missing while also addressing how Anne’s parents struggled during her time away and how their community kept them afloat. This strikes a balance that makes almost everything that happens feel important on an emotional level without losing sight of what this half of the season is building towards.

Heyyyyy Owl House Fandom, how we feeling about the new trailer?

I, personally, am very scared, very worried, quite frightened, sad, a bit excited, and all around shocked.

#YES FINALLY SOMEONE SAID IT

Luz Magic Appreciation Post.

Luz Magic Appreciation Post.

I've often found that in both the show and the Owl House Fandom at large, Luz's talent and magical abilities are often overlooked in comparison to say Amity, Hunter, Willow or Gus. And I'm tired of it. So, I'm making this post challenge: Reblog this with a description or picture or gif or whatever of one of your favorite moments that show off Luz's magical skill, explaining why you chose it. It can be a display of big Magic or a display of small Magic, just as long as its something that displays that human girls magical skill and talent.

For me, mine would be this.

Luz Magic Appreciation Post.

Creating the Grom tree. I pick this because, while it's often seen as a symbol of Lumity, I feel like it also acts as a symbol of Luz's full magical potential.

This is a massive tree that goes WAY above all the others and has essentially become a permanent part of the Boiling Isles environment. This thing could be there by the time Luz's grandkids are born and it could still probably last for years past that. It's a feat of magic on par if not greater than any displayed by Willow or Terra Snapdragon who are both renowned plant witches. And Luz did this all on her own. With one glyph. Remember, Amity's magic went into that abomination, so this tree was all Luz. This thing is a standing testament to just how great Luz's magic skills can really be.
