I shoved my books into my bag and grabbed Seth’s. He’d forgotten it when he ran out that morning.

I made it to school, thankfully, with enough time to hunt down Seth and give him his book.

“Thanks, general.” He chirped, with a cheeky grin.

I rolled my eyes, he was still calling me that from when I’d led the fairies against Bahumat. Brat.

“You’re welcome seal boy.”

I left to my first class of the day.

“You were almost late Kens, what happened?”

“Oh, Seth forgot one of his books at home, I had to bring it to him.”

They blinked, “Oh that sucks that your parents made you do that.”

I blinked, “They didn’t make me? I just brought it to him.”

They looked at me in confusion. Weird.

I scrambled for my things and realized Kendra forgot her water bottle. Oh well, I guess I have enough time to get it to her.

I hurried to the bus and sat with my friends.

“What’s with the water bottle?”

“Oh, Kendra forgot it, I’ll drop it off in her class on our way in.”

They stared, “Dude, since when did you grab your sister’s things? I thought she was annoying?”

I blinked, “I mean she can be obnoxious but she’s not that bad. She’s got my back.”

They just stared. I shrugged and changed the subject.

We reached the school and I found her classroom.

“Hey sparkles!”

Kendra turned, rolling her eyes, “Yeah battery boy?”

“You forgot your water bottle,” I tossed it to her.

She brightened, “Thanks!”

“No prob, see you later.”

“Bye.”

“Pool Party!” Alyssa cried, jumping in the small lake they were visiting.

Seth snickered beside me, “Careful sis, you might get dragged in.”

I laughed, “Then it’d be a real shame if you fell in huh?”

I shoved him in, laughing as he squawked.

I laughed on the dock as he surfaced.

“Naiad!” He cried, lunging for my foot.

I quickly scrambled back, giggling as he tried to reach me.

“You’re a little to male to be a Naiad Seth.”

“I’ll get you yet you pesky boring human! With your short life span and and stylish clothes!”

I laughed again, “You’re so dumb Seth.”

“I don’t get it.” Trina muttered.

The lake was a lot of fun.

“Ugh, come on general sparkles, do you have to have so many people over?”

“There’s three of us Seth.” Kendra grumbled.

I huffed, “No there’s four.”

“I meant there’s three guests here.”

“You should be clearer.”

I walked into Kendra’s room after her, then noticed the window open.

“Oh no! You’re letting the wolves in!”

Kendra laughed, “We’d better close the window before the snake’s follow.”

“We’re all going to get eaten by wolves and snakes and it’s all your friends fault General Sparkles. You should kick them out.”

“Just grab the shotgun.”

I stuck my tongue out. She made a face back.

I couldn’t help laughing at the confusion on her friends faces.

Trina shook her head, “I don’t get their relationship. Just last year Kendra did nothing but complain about Seth, now they have inside jokes and nicknames that aren’t insulting… I think?”

“Yeah,” Alyssa said, “It’s so weird. Did you hear them the other day? Seth was drinking milk and Kendra made a comment about him being able to see like her again and he just laughed and said at least he didn’t have to see ugly goblins?”

“Seriously?” Brittany asked, “That’s so random.”

“Yeah. I wonder what happened.” Trina murmured.

“I don’t know.”

“Beats me.”

Truth or Dare

“Truth or Dare?” The Question can put of nowhere and caused Bracken to look over at the young shadow charmer chained next to him. “ We’re in a dungeon. ” He replied slightly confused as to what possessed his friend to start this game now. “ Yes, very observant of you. That still doesn’t change my question, Truth or Dare. ” Seth pushed again. Bracken sighed knowing he wouldn’t stop until he got his way and he was in no mood to deal with Lawyer Seth. “Truth.” He replied not even sure what date you could do with you wrists chained to a wall. Though knowing Seth, he’d find a way. “ What are your intentions with my sister. ” “Dare.” Bracken immediately replied, willing to do anything else than have this conversation with Seth. “I dare you to tell me what your intentions with my sister are.” Seth shot back with a massive eye roll. “ you want to talk about this now? ” “ Yeah because now you can’t run away as you’ve been not so subtly doing every time I mention it. Besides what else are we supposed to talk about? ” “Oh I don’t know, escape plans? ” Bracken replied sarcastically, desperately trying to get out of having this conversation. He loved Seth, he was like the little brother he never had but that didn’t make any of it any less awkward. “Just answer the question.” Seth said with yet another eye roll. “ I don’t know what to say Seth. Kendra is amazing, I love her with all of my heart and I can’t imagine life without her. ” “That’s super sappy.” Now it was Bracken’s turn to roll his eyes at the reply. “ Now I do believe it’s my turn, Truth or Dare? ” “Oh so now you want to play? You didn’t seem so eager two minutes ago.” “ Just answer the question. ” Bracken mocked earning a chuckle from the Shadow charmer. “ Dare. ” “ I dare you to tell me why your so invested in your sisters love life. ” Bracken replied turning the boys own trick against him. Seth sighed heavily and looked away, the chains jingling  as he attempted to run his hand through his hair out of habit. “I just, really don’t want Kendra to get hurt.” He replied after several minutes of silence,  " She’s been hurt before and it took her a really long time to trust people again, to open up and talk to people. “ I guess I just want to make sure you know this isn’t a game. Kendra loves you and I don’t want anyone to play with her heart. I don’t want anyone to take advantage of that again. ” “ Seth, I will never ever take advantage of Kendra. She means the world to me, she is my world. And yeah I know sappy but it’s true. I promise you the very last thing in the entire world that I want to do is hurt Kendra. ” Bracken perfectly understood where Seth was coming from, having been there himself on several occasions, but he couldn’t find a way to make sure Seth believed him anymore that he had when he first head similar words. “ I hope for your sake that’s true, because I promise you if you ever hurt her I will make Zzyzx look like the best place on earth. ” “ I believe you, but you won’t have to” Bracken told him and he could help the shiver that shook him at the boys words, the temperature in the room seeming to drop as he made the threat. “I hope not. Now Truth or Dare?” Seth asked again returning to his usual lighthearted and mischievous tone. “ You know what Seth, Dare. Just because I’m curious. ” “ I dare you to make a high pitched scream and act like your scared of a spider. ” “What? Why?” Bracken questioned wondering where the idea had even come from. “ I want to see what the guards do. ” Seth replied with a shrug as if it was the most logical answer in the world.  Yeah this was going to be interesting .

This is amazing. I scrolled though the Fablehaven tags for a day and a half to find it.

Not that Kendra

Kendra had just finished setting up her dorm for college.

She had been doing online school, thanks to Andromadus and Bracken working to make her a new identity.

She was still Kendra, just… new social security number. Otherwise it was exactly the same, well, they probably did some other stuff to confirm that she exists, but mostly everything was the same.

She was relieved that they had done it. She didn’t want to have to hide away forever.

But now she was starting college! A year early actually, doing all the work at home was a lot easier and faster than doing it at a school.

She was 17 and at college at last! She couldn’t wait to meet her roommate, and go to classes, and join clubs, and do so much stuff!

Her roommate was a year older than her (expected) but seemed nice enough.

Her side of the room had little fairy lights (ha) and a few plants, her bookshelf with the desk is neatly arranged, her clothes put up, dresser arranged, and her plugs all set up. Plus a few… discreet weapons. Just in case.

She might know how to use her power to fight now, but still, she can’t use that against normal humans without questions happening. Best to keep a few weapons with her, Vanessa helped her get them.

Her roommate had gone out with some friends, so Kendra had the room to herself. She ended up just calling Bracken on her earpiece (bracken had enchanted it like the stones and coins, it didn’t work for anything but talking to him) and wasting away the night talking to him.

Kendra jolted up to her alarm blaring in the morning.

Ah right, time for classes.

She quickly got up and turned off her alarm. Then headed off to grab her toiletries and get ready for the day.

After pulling on her clothes, jeans and a t-shirt with a fairy on it with text saying “I’m Magical” (a joke gift from Seth that was extremely comfortable) she grabbed her bag and made sure she had her books, calculator, and computer.

First class of the day was English, a writing class. She thinks she’ll have fun in it.

Finding the class wasn’t hard, and she has a great teacher! His name was Mr. Shield, how fun! They spent the whole class on the syllabus, and only got through the first two points. Apparently it would take time to get to the actual content of the class.

She also couldn’t help but notice that one of the students in her class was actually not human, she wasn’t sure what kind of magical creature they were. They had flaming hair though. She decided to ignore it for now.

After that class she had an hour break where she grabbed some food from the Einstein bagels (she forgot breakfast) and went over the syllabus for English.

She arrived at her next class, biology, 15 minutes early and sat against the wall to wait, puling out her phone.

College so far seems fun! She can’t wait to find out what her bio teacher is like and English seemed like it wouldn’t be hard and she was really excited for-

“Kendra!?”

She blinked, turning to look.

Oh shit.

It was Alyssa, from her old school, one of her old friends, who think she’s dead.

Seth- *Sneaks a badly burned, unrecognizable lump that used to be a French Fry into his mouth and chews slowly*

This is amazing! We definitely need this!

Kendra and Seth going on a field trip together, them having such fun. And then some disaster happens.

Maybe some magical creature was there, only Kendra can see it.

Maybe they're on a trip to look in caves, oh no the caves collapsed! It's pitch black, the lights are out.

Kendra is the only one that can see.

A race, Seth's survival skills paired with Kendra's ability to see, they must escape the cave before.... Idk it floods or something. With their classes following behind.

(I know they're in different grades, just pretend it works)
