draco threw his bag on the floor and dropped, defeated, into a chair at the kitchen table, elbows on the tabletop, the heels of his hands boring into his sunken eyes. he couldn’t bring himself to move when someone knocked on the front door, but he realized a moment later it was harry as he let himself in.

warm, worn hands found the tension between his shoulders and neck moments later and a voice whispered close to his ear asking what was wrong.

draco groaned and a string of french, unintelligible even to himself, escaped his lips.

“my love, you’ll have to elaborate.” harry sat in the chair next to draco’s and tugged on his forearm to make him look up. begrudgingly, draco complied and sighed deeply.

“work is awful, harry. nothing is going my way and… and no one can see… it’s just…”

later, in the sitting room, draco told him everything. the way draco had messed up at work and how behind he was and how people in the street kept muttering insults under their breath when they passed by and finally how he couldn’t sleep at night because his mind just wouldn’t shut off.

pulling draco’s feet into his lap and squeezing his ankle, harry didn’t hesitate to respond, “we’ll work it out. i’m sorry things are so tough right now and i wish you didn’t have to be so stressed, but we’ll get through this, love.”

and if draco hadn’t been emotional before, he certainly was now. “you’re too good for me. i can’t understand why you’re still here.”

harry made draco look at him, a finger under his chin. “because i love you. and i’m not too good for you. we’re fit together perfectly. don’t insult me by insinuating i’d date down.” he winked. and draco laughed away the dormant sob in his chest. and they kissed until everything did start to feel better.
