FUN FACT FRIDAY!!! What’s one fun fact about you that you haven’t shared with us yet?

Hmmmm…

I grew up in a middle class family with five younger siblings in Washington state. We lived comfortably. I always had enough clothing and food. It was a good life. But we never did anything big or exciting or traveled much. When I graduated from high school, I had only been to 7 states. The furthest EAST I had traveled was Wyoming, which is solidly in the west. I had only been on an airplane once to fly to college.

Then I served a mission for my church in Korea for 18 months in the middle of my college years. My time there really turned on my desire to see more of the world.

I studied my heinie off to get into medical school and spent the meager amount I made by working part-time in college to fly around for interviews.

I moved to Upstate New York for med school where I met my husband. He’s half Japanese and spent half of his life in Japan and half in the US. He grew up traveling a lot more than I did with all the moving he did growing up.

We now live comfortably in the Midwest with our 4 sons. We are able to do SO much more than I did growing up. We travel and do all sorts of interesting and fun activities. I’ve now been to 47 states and 16 countries. Even my youngest, who is 4 years old, has been to 34 states and 6 countries.

Travel gets me away from my neverending to do list and my very demanding and tiring work environment. It’s the break I need for my mental health and well being. It’s one of the things that brings me great joy. I gave up my 20s for my education, but now I have a job that I love and get to see and do really cool things.

I don’t know if that’s the type of thing you wanted for this question, but there you go.

Do you want to share a fun fact about yourself??

I’m thinking about writing a quickie fic about Mother’s Day. But it would be directed more toward those who have a hard time with Mother’s Day - women without great mothers, whose mothers have died, who are struggling with fertility, etc. It would still be a Chenford/The Rookie fic.

Any interest in a story like that?

A quick read that is so worth it! I love how @makeitastrength writes.

She just… she understands him, in a way no one has in a very long time. Maybe ever. It should frighten him. And it does, a little. But at the same time, it feels so natural. Dancing with Lucy. Smiling and laughing with Lucy. Being comforted by Lucy. Tim flops back onto his bed, rubs both hands over his face as the realization settles over him. He’s not sure when it happened or how it happened, but he can’t deny it to himself any longer. He’s falling in love with Lucy Chen.

The Rookie timeline drives me bonkers.

Nolan and Bailey decided to try for a baby literally seconds after the Chenford break-up. But in this episode (6x7 which is only 1 day long), Nolan consoles Bailey that it’s only been TWO WEEKS.

But when Grey talks to Tim about his first day back on patrol, he says he’s been reprimanded for reckless behavior and broken up with his girlfriend WITHIN THE LAST WEEK.

This somewhat confirms my suspicion that the writers for Nolan and Bailey don’t talk to the writers for Chenford.

The Bailan team is dishing out love and happiness. The Chenford team is trying the dig the hole deeper each with each episode and enjoys watching their main characters struggle.

The Bailan team LOVES cheesy lines, awkward scenes, and sexy references that are anything but sexy. The Chenford team seems to be preferring soul-crushing breakups, a strong theme of dishonesty, and a focus on mental health.

It’s like watching two different shows that cross over each other occasionally.
