So, I guess DW managed to offend and/or hurt some 80% of Voltron’s fandom base with this last season?

Abused child killed in a gruesome way! Woman of color sacrificing everything she loved and then herself! Gay character queerbaited married off to some random we were never invested in because apparently his love life doesn’t matter! Cuban boy in a space program kicked back to farmer pining forever over lost love! Abusive mother being readily forgiven after ten thousand years of neglect and abuse! I could go on and on and we know it.

I propose this: they’ve lost their rights to these characters, for doing them so wrong. They’re ours now. I don’t care. We could have had it all - and a lot of pre-s8 meta all over Tumblr proves as much. It could have been beautiful, but it wasn’t, because they wanted “edgy and new” cookie points. Voltron is ours now.

What do we do? We remake this thing. A billion different versions of this thing, in which we are represented, respected, loved. In which we are left with hope, and joy.

It’s ours now.
