Dark eyes smoulder in the fluorescent lighting of the bar, watching the other man with a keenness that’s borderline predatory. Try as he might, Roman couldn’t take his gaze off the stranger sitting nearby. He’d caught his attention in a way very few men had, albeit for more reasons than simply looking attractive. For example, who the fuck wore sunglasses indoors? Especially this time of night. He certainly didn’t seem blind; the way the blond was drinking on his own suggested he could see perfectly well but Roman wasn’t entirely convinced, watching him a little longer than was necessary. Another beverage, this time ordered and paid for by Roman himself is accepted by the stranger with reflexes as good as the first, catching it in his hands as it slides over with an arched brow before acknowledging the man who’d paid for his drink with an appreciative toast. Roman smirked. Talk about a new spin on tall, dark and handsome. One thing led to another as they struck up a conversation. Nobody bothered them; the people here partied hard and drank even harder, his fun new companion easily keeping up with the flow of information and strong shots, and yet... Roman found he still couldn’t pull his gaze away from the other’s own, eyes fixated on the possibility of what lay hidden behind those concealing lenses. His curiosity won out, wandering hand emboldened by one or two drinks of his own as Roman reached over to slide those glasses off. A cautionary slap diverted his fingers from their goal however, forcing him to pull back with a suitably chastised smirk. “Tch. Figured you weren’t blind.”

At this rate, it would be quicker listing what he’s NOT into. Anything unhygienic is a no go as well as kinks he considers to be ‘creepy’ such as age play. Roman might like being called daddy but his tastes lie firmly in partners around his age or even a little older. His preference for mature lovers stem from his experiences in that inexperienced bedmates tend to be a pain in the ass to handle - somebody who knows what they’re doing and has an idea of what they like will always be picked over a blushing violet since he doesn’t have the time or patience to deal with naivety unless he’s really into them. It’s also because some of his fetishes/kinks tend to involve rougher stuff such as breath play, BDSM, edgeplay and orgasm control/denial. He’s a sadist (with a few masochistic tendancies) so not everybody is equipped to handle what he can dish out and craves in return, though he’ll usually try anything at least once so long as it doesn’t skeeve him out too much. Honestly, Roman just wants to get off and if he’s got to get a little creative, he’ll do just that.

MANY TIMES. Roman’s fallen in love not just with people but things as well. His very first love was his father’s suits, how classy and stylish he found them to be to the point where he wanted to wear nothing else for the rest of his life. His love of quality men’s clothes persists to this very day with him having deep pride in his collection of luxury clothing. When it comes to people, he’s had many relationships over the years and grew infatuated with a variety of lovers but his most significant partners were his first and second girlfriend/s. Circe was a top model working for his father’s cosmetics company back when he was still a teenager. She was the first person who accepted him as he was and gave his virginity to her, but she ‘abandoned’ him a few years after the death of his parents when Janus Cosmetics ran into serious financial problems. Roman might not have been nearly so hurt if he hadn’t found she’d already hooked up with another wealthy lover, having moved on to somebody else who could provide the lifestyle she craved. Tiffany, his second girlfriend, was much more genuine in her affection for Roman despite being a drug trafficker. Her untimely demise at the hands of the Joker cut their relationship short however, making it difficult for Roman to open up and become romantically attached to anybody again. He’s grown infatuated with various individuals, usually after a good one night stand but his issues regarding trust and commitment currently prevent him from taking those relationships to the next level.

He is hardcore dominant. Due to past trauma, Roman has trouble dealing with trust and it takes a LOT of effort on his end to willingly cede control over to his partner. Sexually he’s more lenient; he doesn’t care nearly as much whether he’s giving or receiving so long as he’s having a good time but he’ll always strive to be dominant over other men compared to women. It gives him a kick having so much control over somebody who perceives (or is perceived) to be powerful, putting them in their place by showing them he can strip all that power away however he wants, whenever he wants. In a healthy relationship that’s taken time to develop, he’s totally a switch but any relationship can be expected to start with him firmly in control barring significant differences between them (i.e: his lover is metahuman and/or has superpowers since he’s just an ordinary human at the end of the day.)

Has Roman had sex in public? Does his office count? Looking like he does, Roman tends to stand out in a crowd unless it’s from before his mask fused to his face or he’s found a way of concealing his masked features. He wouldn’t mind the thrill of having sex in public, not even caring if he’s got a spectator or two but he’d really rather not deal with members of public calling the GCPD on him and sticking him with charges of public indecency on top of his already lengthy list of crimes. He’ll settle for sex in his office, maybe even hiding a partner under his desk and pretending nothing of the sort is happening while he’s getting some fun from beneath. Paperwork gets boring sometimes.

As long as you’ve got a pretty face but aren’t two-faced, Roman’s willing to roll. He couldn’t care less what race his partner is nor would he care if they have superpowers or not just so long as he’s able to trust them. He can’t settle down with somebody he cannot completely relax around and in his line of work, trust is a very fragile thing to place in another’s hands. He knows he’s a difficult man with a lot of problems so somebody who is understanding of that and is willing to give him his space, yet respect he has feelings and is only human at the end of the day is ideal. Roman’s got a bad temper but he’s got enough self-control not to lash out at his loved ones, something which both Circe and Tiffany understood and therefore didn’t try to ‘change him’ for the better.

Roman can be a demanding man but he can be very giving too. He’ll rarely ever openly admit he loves somebody since words are cheap (plus crime lords have plenty of enemies) but he’ll make an effort to show just how important somebody is to him, typically through spoiling them with expensive gifts and praise. He’ll list off all the things he loves about a person, ranging from how good they look to how talented they are, buying them pretty (or desired) gifts to please them. He has good memory for things people (who are important to him) like, including subtle things they might have only mentioned in conversation once or twice. While he has difficulty showing affection due to how uncaring his parents were, it doesn’t mean he doesn’t care. With somebody that he loves deeply, Roman will actively walk into danger and even take a bullet if he has to. He’ll swear vengeance on anybody whose hurt somebody he’s close to, making it a priority to hurt them right back even if he’s got to spend thousands doing it. This is a man who told the Joker to his face he was going to kill him for what he did to his girlfriend, holding onto a bad grudge until the end of his life.

"Damnit, Li! I wasn’t done killing that moron just yet!” Roman snarled, though his combative tone was at odds with how little of a fight he was putting up against his assistant. Li no doubt had her hands full managing his dead weight regardless, her boss ignoring the crimson stain currently blooming across his white shirt as he paused to glare at the culprit responsible right before he was yanked out of the room. Turns out one of men wasn’t as loyal as he’d thought, instead being a plant sent by one of his rivals to infiltrate the group. He’d almost accomplished what he’d set out to do too, crisis adverted only by Li’s timely intervention when she’d noticed the stiffness in his would-be killer’s body language and again in pulling his ass out of the crossfire before a second bullet could be fired at him. The first had hit him squarely in the shoulder, missing his vitals by a good margin but damn if it didn’t ache like a bitch right now. ”Shit. The boys had better not rough him too badly, I wanna make sure I find out who sent that sorry ass to do me in...” Roman hissed as Li dragged him over to a nearby medical room, hand clamped over the bleeding hole in his shoulder as per her orders. Wasn’t good for morale seeing their boss pouring with blood, he’d thought, not for the first time grateful for her level-headed mind and ability to stay calm even in situations like this. He bit down on his cigar as he shucked off his shirt, allowing Li to staunch the wound. The guy who did this was going to be a very, very dead man, he was going to make sure of it but first he had to let Li make sure he didn’t end up dead right alongside him.

The scuffle had been as violent as it had been abrupt, fists flying in the darkness as bullets and yells ricocheted off the walls. Roman cursed angrily as he strained his eyes to see where his gun had dropped amongst all the chaos, one of his idiot men having shot out the overhead lights when somebody quite literally dropped in on the group unannounced. "Down to three... what's wrong with you idiots..." He spat at a nearby body, ignoring the unconscious figure as instead his fingers reached towards a metallic glimmer he hoped was his missing firearm. This wasn’t his first rodeo dealing with a nuisance getting involved in his business. Roman had been through similar experiences before, it was only natural being a criminal in Gotham but few opponents he’d faced had been nearly as relentless or hard-hitting as whoever this fucker was. The ache in his hand was proof of that, a solid whack from the newcomer somehow forcing him to drop his weapon but Black Mask was nothing short of ferocious when it came to an all-out brawl. A third henchman dropped, and seizing the opportunity, Roman jumped up and rushed the figure. He fully intended on delivering a solid beatdown as payment for his hand, for the whole goddamn fucking mess he’d caused but underestimated just how well the newcomer could see in the gloom, able to tell he was coming even with his back turned. The world span as criminal and stranger struggled, ending with Roman’s back slamming solidly against the wall. He breathed heavily, both from the exertion of the struggle and having the wind knocked out of his lungs as he finally stared at the face of whoever this vigilante was.

“Just who the hell are you getting involved in my business? You ain’t no Bat...” Roman growled lowly, teeth bared in a blatant refusal to submit.

Most people’s first times aren’t as thrilling or as comfortable as they might have hoped it would be and Roman was no exception to that rule. He was young, dumb and horny as a teenager which, combined with his repressive upbringing, made him quite vulnerable to the first person who showed the slightest interest in him. Circe was a vivacious woman who was very confident in her looks and sexuality, boosting Roman’s self-esteem during a time he was still questioning his identity. She was the first person who accepted him as he was but due to his lack of experience at that age, he had no idea when to speak up or how to stop when things were moving too fast for comfort. Their first time together was right around Roman’s seventeeth birthday, an occasion neither of his parents were interested in very much. Having stolen a vintage bottle of wine from his parent’s cellar, the two young lovers celebrated the evening themselves and one thing quickly led to another. Circe didn’t hesitate to make her move whereas Roman wasn’t certain if he was ready just yet, but the wine had chased away his previous concerns, causing him to give in her advances... He remembers that night with both fondness and regret, how he felt truly loved for the first time in his life but that it was also an experience that was frightening and even a little overwhelming for him. He’s never mentioned it to anybody since, keeping his lips firmly sealed when he realized he’d been taken advantage of and for all the love she’d shown, he was easily replaced once he no longer served a purpose.
