Anybody else in his position would have good reason to worry and especially with what Foxglove was capable of but Roman Sionis wasn’t just anybody, not even to a meta. He’d been surprised when she’d actually replied, laying it out in no uncertain terms what he could expect if he happened to ‘betray’ her in any way at all. Not necessarily in a bad way; rather he’d been pleased, elated that his dogged pursuit of getting her under his thumb might finally be paying off after all this time. Her terms when it came to working for him had been less pleasing however. They’d been steep, almost too steep for him to consider pursuing her any longer but the more she felt comfortable around him, the more she inevitably revealed. Roman prided himself on being able to tell the content of a person’s character, and Foxglove’s personality screamed hers to high heaven. "The thing I like about Foxglove is that she’s honest, no games about it whatsoever. Sounds like a dumb thing to like, and maybe it is but honesty is as rare as... well, an honest cop here in Gotham. Makes my job much easier and if I’m right about her, Foxglove can talk a big game all she wants but she’ll find it harder to walk away than she thinks, I imagine.” Not through blackmail or ‘persuading’ her to stay through other means. No doubt that would only earn her ire, but using her honesty against her on top of providing a safety net too comfortable to give up so easily? She’d be eating from the palm of his hand before the year was out, so long as she thought she had the better deal between the two of them. And if she didn’t like that, he could always make sure the only job she could look forwards to finding would be a waitress at Pauli’s Diner. ”Besides, somebody really needs to give her a guiding hand on how to be threatening. Ripping out people’s guts is as soft as it gets.”

Rubbing Oswald the wrong way probably wasn’t the best decision he’d ever made but how could he resist when the older man made it so easy? Besides, he’d always wondered if it was true about Penguin having a Napoleon complex and his casual admittance of finding Roman’s choice of words ‘vexing’ only served to heighten his suspicions. In hindsight, perhaps heighten was a poor choice of words considering present company and all. “And here I thought you had a sense of humour! Nothing wrong with a little ribbing between friends because really, and if you want a mask so badly then all you had to do was ask. I’d be glad to help you out in that case.”

“Can’t be worse than how it already is. I like Eliza and so do plenty of other inmates but I’m not so sure civilians and law enforcement would agree with her methods. People already think we’re getting off lightly enough as it is, that we’re lucky not to get lobotomized and made to disappear quietly like they used to do to crazies back then.” Roman had nothing but contempt for the orderlies and other people who’d made similar remarks in the past while he’d been in earshot, putting their names down in his extensive mental backlog for the time when he could get them alone and perform a little lobotomy work himself with a drill and a couple of screwdrivers on hand. Eliza Kraven’s name was not on that list, and Roman doubted it would ever be. The woman was as inoffensive as a puppy-themed cupcake, for fuck’s safe. On some level he’d actually be concerned about her capability of being able to run the madhouse but he’d meant what he said in that things couldn’t possibly be worse. Inmates broke out all the time, the institution only able to rely on an equally insane vigilante to reign in their escapees. Hell, Roman himself could get out with a few well-placed bribes and not-to-subtle threats, relying on the corruption of the system to get him whatever he wanted but Eliza seemed incorrigible, if only when it came to refusing to look the other way in return for wealth and power unlike the politicians of Gotham or... well, anywhere really. ”I hope she runs but at the same time I’m kind of hoping she doesn’t. Arkham’s fucking cursed and I wouldn’t enjoy hearing anything bad happening to her, thinking a patient liked her more than she thought or somebody else thinking she’s in their way.” @the-arkham-librarian
