Not a big deal, not a big deal at al-
Context
@grimaussiewitch
Exactly. Movie!Newt died by accident, there was a possibility of salvation. Book!Newt was never going to be saved and Thomas probably never fully accepted that reality, which is why he tried so hard to not kill him. That was really painful to read tbh. The movies were good though, it was another sense of pain because instead of being sad that he could never have lived, we were sad that he accidentally died right before Brenda could save him.
Does anyone really talk about how different "Please Tommy, please" is in the movies than in the books?
In the movies, "Please Tommy, please" is Newt's beg for Thomas to take the necklace that had his note inside of it. Basically begging Thomas to take his last words, something to remember him by.
But in the books...
"Please Tommy, please" is a cry for mercy. A plead for Thomas to not let Newt fall into insanity. To end his suffering before he became a Crank past the Gone. He even wrote the "Kill me. If you've ever been my friend, kill me" note. He's been begging Thomas to kill him since the beginning of TDC.
It just hits differently in the books, man ðŸ˜
I can't cope with this
Why, James Dashner, why???
Do you ever think about how Alby stopped Newt’s suicide and brought him back to the Glade to heal him and keep him alive and stay with him even though Newt hated being alive in their situation
Hey do you ever also think about how Newt couldn’t save Alby the way he did for him. He couldn’t give him the thanks and repayment he likely thought he owed. He couldn’t save him and hardly had time to mourn him. Do you ever think about Alby’s death being a sacrifice, and how even in death he saved Newt. He was always saving Newt.
Good Night or something
I've recently gotten back into the TMR fandom, and let me just say I have MISSED this place. Been a few years, but we're back baby.
But I have already given away my books (though I am planning to buy another set), so I decided to find and re-watch the movies. So far, I've only watched the first one.
Let me preface this with the fact that I have been all for Nalby since like. Half way through the first book. Maybe not even. I clocked those two so early on that I literally accidentally shielded myself from anything that would introduce Newtmas (not to hate on it, I see the appeal).
((Spoilers below for those who don't want to read them))
But the part at the end of the first book that really solidified my opinion on Nalby was Newt literally trying to follow Alby after the man went crazy and ran into a whole pack of Grievers. We won and we lost that day.
Unfortunately in the movies, they change Alby's death, which did make me sad. But in my first watch of the Maze Runner, I didn't really have any specific mindset while watching it. This time, however, I was looking for Nalby crumbs, because I am anxiously awaiting my books. And in that search I found something.
When the Griever snatches Alby from the Homestead (I think it was the Homestead? Not sure) after he saved Chuck from a Griever, he has that little moment with Thomas before his character is no longer with us. Right after that, you can hear someone scream his name.
...
It was Newt.
You can't tell me it wasn't. It was his voice. I listened to it like seventeen times.
We may have lost out on a lot of our Nalby, but Nalby fans still suffering with this one 🎊🎉ðŸ˜
