welcm to cy's hot takes, where my takes might fire back at me đ
sorry in advance! if you hate me I'm sorry đ
- today hot take is to Thomas
Something I thought about lately is that.. Is that Thomas is at fault for the death of Chuck, Alby (books), Ben, Newt (semi), and Teresa. Let me explain.
In Fever Code they weren't supposed to go with the Maze until Teresa suggested a way to get them in there by convincing Ava and that worked and they got it to the Maze that way.
Here's how it's there fault for the deaths.
Chuck sacrifice himself for him (Thomas)
Alby got eaten by a Griever from not wanting to go in the real world after Thomas found a exit.
Ben attacked Thomas, making him banished.
Newt got the flare from Thomas's adventure in the movies, (idk what happens in the book, hopefully the same thing but you got the point)
And in the movie (probably the same thing in the book) Teresa sacrifices herself for Thomas.
Making Thomas responsible for the deaths.. this proved my point a lot...

Sorry about that can you make a minewt

Try
Try (Minho x Newt)
Word Count: 652 word
Warnings: kissing, hugging
Summary: Minho is worried about Newt getting infected during their venture outside of WICKED.
(Right, finally got the right one. Iâve never written minewt so bare with đ. Btw this takes place during The Fever Code.)
Minho hurries down corridor after corridor, Alby trailing after him, still wide-eyed. he knows they shouldnât have done it, he knows it was dangerous. he wasnât thinking.
what that WICKED worker had said wreathed around his mind, chilling him to the bone.
why hadnât he though about it before? why during all the times they had gone up to that roof, why hadnât he thought?
he bursts through the door to the huge hall the boys slept in, beds line it, bunk beds with crisp white sheets and small lumps, showing the rows of sleeping figures.
he practically sprints down the rows looking for a particular one, looking for a particular lump.
Minho skids to a halt so suddenly that Alby runs right into him. he rushes towards the boy that sat on the lower bunk of the bed, looking amused.
he lets out a sigh of relief and starts examining every part of the blond boyâs body, as if tasked with memorising it.
âsomething wrong Minho?â
his gaze snaps upwards and his voice comes out exasperated, âof course somethingâs wrong. why didnât I think of it before? I didnât realise⌠I didnât think-â
âWhat the bloody hell are you talking aboutâ Newt looks concerned as he pulls the boy onto the bed beside him, who was now running his hands through his hair and looking ready to pull bits out.
âWhat am I talking about?â Minho knows he sounds hysterical but he is so focused on getting the point he needed to get across to the boy, he didnât care. âIâm talking about us sneaking out, we shouldnât have donât it. it was stupid. we should have thought about it sooner.â
âThought about what sooner?â Newt puts a hand on Minhoâs shoulder, looking seriously confused.
âThe fact that youâre not immune!â he says this so loudly, several boys raise there heads, muttering in annoyed tones.
âWhat about it?â
âWhat about it? What about it? What if you had got infected while we were out there. What if a crank had jumped us and infected you. Why didnât I remember it before?â
âMinho, Iâm not a child, I can look after myself.â
at these words, the boy seems to deflate, slumping on the bed.
âI know, but thatâs not the point. I donât think you canât look after yourself. Itâs just,â he breaths deeply, âthere are probably tones of cranks out there, and no matter how many fancy weapons WICKED uses on them, you might still catch the flare.â
âHonestly, youâre worse than Tommy. stop worrying.â
âI canât.â Minho whined, hands twisting in his lap.
âJust donât think about it anymore.â he sighs quietly.
âI canâtâ
âTryâ
âI-â
âMinhoâ
âBut-â
Newt doesnât let him finish. he presses his lips on Minhoâs, stopping his words. the dark haired boy wraps his arms around the otherâs neck and his soft blond hair tickles them. the boys feels soft fingers creep down to his waist.
after a couple minutes, or maybe itâs several hours, the two break apart.
âTry, alright.â
âokay.â Minho answers quietly.
Newt smiles at him and raises his head to Alby, who was leaning on the bed and watching the two. he holds up his hands, smiling. Iâll leave the two of you to it.
he walks away still smiling and Newtâs eyes latch back onto Minhoâs.
âSo, are done yapping, or-â
this time it was Newtâs turn to be cut off. Minho drags them both down onto their sides, not breaking away from the boy, holding him as though he would disappear if he didnât.
the boy knows he should have kept trying to persuade the other to be more careful, but right then, in that moment, nothing mattered but the feels of Newtâs soft lips and warm fingers on his waist.
nothing but the gentle eyes that swallowed him. nothing but the blond hair, tickling his arms. nothing but Newt.
(Hope you liked it, sorry it took a minute)
Good Night or something
I've recently gotten back into the TMR fandom, and let me just say I have MISSED this place. Been a few years, but we're back baby.
But I have already given away my books (though I am planning to buy another set), so I decided to find and re-watch the movies. So far, I've only watched the first one.
Let me preface this with the fact that I have been all for Nalby since like. Half way through the first book. Maybe not even. I clocked those two so early on that I literally accidentally shielded myself from anything that would introduce Newtmas (not to hate on it, I see the appeal).
((Spoilers below for those who don't want to read them))
But the part at the end of the first book that really solidified my opinion on Nalby was Newt literally trying to follow Alby after the man went crazy and ran into a whole pack of Grievers. We won and we lost that day.
Unfortunately in the movies, they change Alby's death, which did make me sad. But in my first watch of the Maze Runner, I didn't really have any specific mindset while watching it. This time, however, I was looking for Nalby crumbs, because I am anxiously awaiting my books. And in that search I found something.
When the Griever snatches Alby from the Homestead (I think it was the Homestead? Not sure) after he saved Chuck from a Griever, he has that little moment with Thomas before his character is no longer with us. Right after that, you can hear someone scream his name.
...
It was Newt.
You can't tell me it wasn't. It was his voice. I listened to it like seventeen times.
We may have lost out on a lot of our Nalby, but Nalby fans still suffering with this one đđđ
I can't cope with this
Why, James Dashner, why???
Do you ever think about how Alby stopped Newtâs suicide and brought him back to the Glade to heal him and keep him alive and stay with him even though Newt hated being alive in their situation
Hey do you ever also think about how Newt couldnât save Alby the way he did for him. He couldnât give him the thanks and repayment he likely thought he owed. He couldnât save him and hardly had time to mourn him. Do you ever think about Albyâs death being a sacrifice, and how even in death he saved Newt. He was always saving Newt.

Am I to believe this is homie behavior?
Bro was on board like a page later, I bet you man didn't fight him once
(Context for those who need it: They're planning on going into the Maze to the Griever hole to try and escape. Alby, traumatized and kinda insane from his experience with the Changing, is pretty heavily against this. Newt says not to worry, that he'll get him to join the escaping group; The Maze Runner, Page 321)
I feel like we don't talk enough about the actual depth of the changes that happened to Alby when passing from the book to the movie. Like sure, he was mean in the books and nice in the movies, but it goes much deeper than that. In the book he represented the universal issue of trying to measure up to someone's standards and inevitably failing, and then in the movie he was just... there.
Because in the book we have that first scene the "if you ain't scared you ain't human" scene, where Alby progressively makes everything worse and worse and worse with every word that come out of his mouth. But the thing is, he's trying to fulfil the expectations that everyone places on him the moment he becomes a leader. He's genuinely trying and I'm too lazy to get the book and quote actual fragments that you can analyse (I might do it later if anyone wants me to), but he tries a bunch of stuff to put Thomas at ease, only he has a short temper and doesn't think before he speaks and it's been under a month since one of the people closest to him died (because Alby had to have been the second in command before and there's no way he wasn't close to Nick).
But in the movie, he has no reason to not be an exemplary leader and role model, so all the complexity and representation of a constant part of being human is erased and we're just left with a cookie-cutter archetype of the leader who's little more than a plot device and I find that sad.
what she says: i'm fine
what she means: alby saw a beautiful boy and he tried to smile! alby saw a beautiful boy and he tried to smile!! *starts rhythmically banging pots and pans together* ALBY SAW A BEAUTIFUL BOY AND HE TRIED TO SMILE!! ALBY SAW A BEAUTIFUL BOY AND HE TRIED TO SMILE!!!

âIâll make up some klunk. Tell him weâll all find a new life in another part of the world, live happily ever after.â
It's crazy to think about how the TMR movies are literally just a published AU. Like, they have a lot of the same elements, but it is not the same. That's no shade to the movies, they're good in their own right, but I just think it's wild. (Below is a rant, feel free to ignore)
One of the biggest things that I noticed they changed in the movies is the involvement of Teresa and Aris in WICKED.
In the movies, Teresa actually lost her memories and was given them back, and THEN she decided to go back to WICKED. In the books, she never lost her memories and worked for WICKED up until she found out about the second Trials and sold them out to the Right Arm.
Aris is hilariously different, actually. Movie!Aris was completely unaware of what was going on with WICKED and wanted to help Thomas get out of that facility because of when they found the kids being drained. He is an incredibly important character, as the Gladers probably never would have realized what was going on and wouldn't have escaped. Also, when they found the Right Arm, they very well could have gotten themselves shot if Harriet and Sonya hadn't recognized Aris. But Book!Aris was the same as Book!Teresa: he worked for WICKED and had his memories. He betrayed Thomas intentionally, knew what he was doing.
I think the deaths are also important. Teresa's was kind of different, but it did have the same essential elements.
Movie!Teresa could have been saved if she'd just gotten onto the Berg. Book!Teresa was crushed by falling rubble. She was trapped, unable to be saved in the amount of time they had.
Move!Alby's death was an accident. They almost completely removed his reaction to the Changing, which is a key factor in Book!Alby's death, which was intentional on his part. Book!Alby saw the work, saw how horrible it was, and refused to go home.
Movie!Chuck took the bullet for Thomas, showed bravery and love for Thomas in his final moments. Book!Chuck was forced to take the knife for Thomas, thrown in front of him at the last moment. It was just another nail in the coffin of how WICKED had completely ripped a childhood from a twelve-yead-old boy.
Movie!Newt's death was an accident (maybe not, maybe he intentionally stabbed himsef). He could have been saved, Brenda was just thirty seconds away with the vial of Thomas's blood - the Cure. Book!Newt could not have been saved because they had no known Cure. He was descending into a blood-crazed madness, and in a worse state than Thomas had last seen him before their final moments. Also, somehow, Book!Newt was the Cure. He could have cured himself if WICKED had figured out what was in his and Sonya's blood (The Maze Cutter has shaken me to my very core, wtf is this fact).
There's no time

Newt X (any gender) Reader (romantic)
Gladers X reader (platonic)
Warning: mention of blood, cursing , mention of death, maybe kinda angsty but it will be fluff
A/N: this is not actually an AU but in this situation alby was not sting but will be sting at the time where they're escaping

All the gladers are waiting for reader to come back because its already getting dark the gates started to close the others left because they knew reader can't survive there
"They're not gonna make it.."
"they're gonna die"
"they're not coming back"
Etc.
Newt can hear the others but he still have faith that you can out run the door
Then there was you running for your life
"C'MON READER RUNN"
"READER!!"
The gates were so fast and your to far once you touch the walls its already close all you heard was newt shouting
"READER!"
Some of the gladers had a disappointed face and left because its already getting dark but newt stayed there
.
"hey newt.. you can't just stay here you have to take a rest..."
Jeff said as he sat next to newt
"... let's just wait for those walls to open and I'm pretty sure the runners will look for them. Lets just have a little fate that they will get out of there safe"
Newt was hesitate but nodded and got up to he's hut
---------------------------------------------------
When newt woke up he saw minho and ben running to the maze he only stared at them for a minute then he started he's job
Then a few hours later he saw minho carrying reader on he's back to the med-jack
Newt quickly ran up to them but was stop when minho pulled him away
"wait man you cant go in there, they're still healing"
Minho grab newt's shoulder
"well no bloody shit i have to go to them i need to know that their ok"
Newt said trying to get out of Minho's grip
"newt please be patient... they're resting for the meantime alright"
Alby said and he only nodded
---------------------------------------------------
A few minutes past there's a loud sound that cause newt, minho, alby to look inside the med-jack
Minho caught jeff and only stared at reader
"wh-what happen to them?...."
Minho asked
"they're stung by a griver"
'no no no I'm only dreaming this isn't true' newt thought as alby call the other's and tied reader
"wait stop y'all are gonna hurt them!"
Newt said to the other glader seeing reader like this minho and alby didn't notice the stung on they're back when they saw reader lying down
"I'm sorry newt but we have to banish them"
Chuck said seeing the commotion
Newt's eyes were widened he was so furious that he attack gally who has been holding up reader
The others pull newt out off gal and put him in a time out
Newt only sat there waiting for reader to get banished he said its more better to be there than seeing reader go to the maze
---------------------------------------------------
The sound of closing gates which means reader is gonna get banished then he heard reader screaming
"shit please dont let be in there again please!!"
Newt stand up and tried to open the cell door once he did open it he ran as fast as he can but when he got there reader was already inside they made eye contact and reader mumble
'i love you'
Then the walls are closed
The other gladers were sad aswell reader has been like a family to them they couldn't help but feel gloom
Newt only knelt down there crying
---------------------------------------------------

Staying out in the Maze was likely a dumb idea, especially with the ever-present thought of the fact that the Doors were bound to close at any minute pounding at the back of your head.
Nevertheless, your eyes were fixated on the sight in front of you, hands on your hips as e/c irises took in the thick vines that were rooted into the cracks lining the stone floor and stretched as far as the eye could see up the surrounding walls. Your hand reached up to thread through h/c coloured tresses, thoughts bumbling about your head in an analytical manner.Â
E/c coloured eyes moved after the beetle-blade, the metal, bug-like machine chittering as its red-light flicked across the wall it was scampering along before pausing. Almost as though it sensed your presence, the thingâs head turned to you, camera staring right back at you as it focused on the stationary Glader. You took a challenging stride toward it, surprised by the fact that it didnât even move, the step bearing an experimental trial as well as it encouraged them onward. You were quick to take advantage of the situation, leaping after the machine and closing the few metres of distance between you and the beetle blade in the process. Â
Unfortunately, the sudden movement on your end had sent the beetle-blade shooting further along the wall, bee-lining it straight for a crack in the stone that it would just barely manage to fit into. However, after months of trying to catch one of the blasted things, youâd come to learn a trick or two. You kicked off the ground, clearly determined to finally get your hands on one of the rutting machines even if it meant having to risk the slight detour from heading back to the Glade. Â
You swiftly scaled among the vines, arm shooting above head as your fingertips came to wrap around one of its legs just as the machine made to disappear. Triumph shot through you as you were about to yank the thing back and disarm it, focused solely on the task at hand when a swift shout that consisted purely of your name halted everything and sent them tumbling backwards when your single-handed grip on the vines jerked loose in surprise.
Your ankle, however, was more reluctant to follow, remaining entangled amongst the vines, a sharp jerk sending jolts of pain through your leg the minute your back slammed against the hard, unforgiving floor. The pain flared, your vision swaying as your eyes flicked to the shoes of the now approaching figure, clearly not pleased with the situation in the slightest as a frustrated and slightly pained groan drew past your lips. Your thoughts of irritated agony echoed the emotion vividly as you practically felt  the bruises forming along your ankle, only to be interrupted by the same person who had caused you to lose your balance in the first place, a teasing lilt now lacing the newcomerâs voice, which you could easily pinpoint as Minho,Â
âMan, I knew you liked me, but I didnât realise youâd be throwing yourself at my feet the minute you heard me. Not that I can blame you, I am pretty hot,â Came his playful words, causing you to set your jaw in an exasperated grimace before snapping a response.Â
âSlim it, before itâs your ankle getting broken, shank,â You growled, accent heavy and thick in their unpleasant predicament. You took note of the airy laugh their running partner allowed to bubble past him before crouching beside you and gently unwinding the shrubbery the held them captive, leaving you to wince as your leg dropped to the floor alongside your other leg with a harsh âthumpâ. âBloody hell, that hurts like a fuckingâ,â
âWoah there, you think Newtâd approve of that kind of language?â Minho snickered from somewhere behind you, the volume of his laughter only rising as you tilted your head back to shoot him the best glare you could muster from the ground. After a few beats, he finally stifled the rest of his bemused sounds, eyes flicking from your haphazard position and back to your eyes that strained to keep pace with his own before he rolled his eyes and crouched down to offer you a hand up.Â
You were rolling onto your stomach in an instant, gingerly twisting your aching leg a moment later with great care as to not let it snag in the chipped concrete floor before you flung your hand into Minhoâs outstretched one while huffing a begrudging sigh. His grip was cold and assuaging in contrast to your heated and unpleasant grasp from being pressed against the Mazeâs floor, you noted in the fleeting moment in which your eyes met once more, only for you to bite back a bark of pain as you attempted to settle a sliver of weight onto your leg. Had it not been for the Keeperâs firm grasp on you, you would have stumbled right back to the ground and likely been left there had he not shown up in the first place, but he offered a teasing scoff instead and slung your hand that was already in his own gloved one across his shoulders. You obliged with his actions gratefully, almost gasping in relief as you felt the crushing weight alleviated from your injured leg, and began stumbling alongside Minho as he set a rather swift pace that you struggled to keep up with, considering you were only left with only one good leg. Â
âKeep up or we might as well roll out a picnic blanket and wait for the Grievers to come and enjoy the quick meal weâd make for them,â He managed after you stumbled for the nth time, his breathing clearly heavy, and the signs of strain obvious, but he didnât so much as falter as he continued practically dragging you in the direction of the East Doors. You couldnât help but cast a partially distressed glance in his direction, feeling nothing but sorrow at the unnecessary weight you were forcing him to bear, but you knew that he would only tighten his grip on you if you tried to manage without him, so it was a losing game either way. You cast a final glance his way, but he seemed to catch notice of your lingering stare in his peripheral vision, not even fully turning his head as his mahogany irises focused on the twisting corner wreathed with thickly woven vines just up ahead. âWhatâre you lookinâ at, shank?â
You pushed off the ground with your good leg, springing forward and stumbling a few steps as Minho matched strides with you, huffing your response between focused breaths and sighs, âNothing. Uh â,â you panted softly, sweat beading on your forehead as you continued to manage single steps in the time Minho made three paced strides. â â anything planned for tonight?âÂ
The two of you rounded the corner and you could practically feel your running partner quaver in relief, his response breathless but audible as the two of you attempted to hurry through the homestretch.Â
âA big plate of whatever crap Frypan has cooked and a warm shower to rest my weary bones.â
You were about to scoff a laugh the moment you cleared the Doors, already shouldering him with an eye roll and a witty quip soon to follow, when someone called out to you and Minho. Both your heads turned in unison, your steady steps pausing as his arm fell to your waist to hold you steady, and a beaming smile instantly made way through your exasperated frown as you caught sight of Chuck ambling straight for you, Newt trotting not far behind. Â
âWhat happened? You guys were out for like, two hours longer than usual!â The younger boy exclaimed as he approached, finally taking in the sight of you leaning against Minho and his arm around your form before he gagged and darted away. âGet a room!â
You choked a surprised laugh at the suddenness of Chuckâs joke, watching his retreating figure stick out his tongue at Minhoâs irritated expression, which made him look as though he was about to go after him had it not been for Newtâs prompt arrival. You greeted him with a soft âheyâ and the same smile that had been present for the short period of time you had to talk to Chuck, which the blonde seemed to eagerly return, nodding at Minho and taking in the closeness between the two of you.  Â
âYou two had an eventful evening, huh?â There was no malice in his voice, merely just an amusingly intrigued tone to his words as he gestured to Minhoâs gentle hold on your waist, which made you fumble over your words momentarily, rapidly moving to explain the situation as your hands flicked subconsciously along with your rushed train of thought.
âOh, uh, Minho distracted me whilst I was trying to grab a beetle-blade, and I ended up falling. Blew my bloody ankle, it seems,â You gesticulated to the obviously sparse pressure you were putting on your leg with a slightly nervous laugh as Newt cracked into a brighter grin. Â
âIt was your fault,â Came Minhoâs facetious remark before he cursed under his breath suddenly and knocked your shoulder. âSince youâre too busy chattinâ up a storm, Iâm gonna have to do the maps, arenât I.âÂ
It was the second in commandâs turn to scoff lightly and wave a dismissive hand in the Asianâs direction.Â
âConsider it an order.âÂ
âThe things I do for you shanks.âÂ
âYeah, a bloody hard life you have, shank,â Newt mused, his smile never once faltering before his eyes finally strayed back to you. âIâll get Jack or Clint over, see what they can do in the meanwhile. Probably just needs to keep off it for a while, take it easy.â Â
âAy, ay,â He quipped, a lazy, two fingered salute his makeshift form of a farewell, quick to turn on his heel after his fingertips tapped your shoulder in a reassuring manner before he jogged off in the direction of the Map Room, leaving you and Newt to your devices. Â
The two of you immediately fell into a bout of comfortable silence as he slowly edged toward you, taking Minhoâs place at your side and slipping an arm across your shoulders before looking to you for silent confirmation to begin guiding you to the Medjack hut. You nodded easily, instantly finding a compromised speed to limp alongside Newt, your own arm settled just under his shoulder blades as you both made your way across the Glade with the sun fully beginning to set behind you. Â
âSo,â He began after a moment, doe eyes fixated wholly on you as you carefully navigated through the swishing grass. Gladers were bustling about the expansive courtyard, some carrying plates loaded with food while Builders wrapped up the day, Gallyâs shouting fit heard even from the distance you and Newt were as he ordered the others around. âYou ready for tomorrow?âÂ
Your head perked up in curiosity, brow furrowing as you called upon even the slightest memory to recall what was supposed to be taking place the next day, finding rather quickly that you wouldnât be able to. You offered te blonde a confused look as you continued to keep pace with him as best you could, only stumbling every few feet or so now that you were walking across the even terrain of the grass-laden field. âWhatâs going on tomorrow?âÂ
The second in command chuckled, the sound more akin to the shard of a melody plucked out of a long-since-forgotten song, ancient and rich and beautiful as the golden rays of the dissipating light hit the panes of his face and sent the amber tones to his eyes sparking. It was truly a peaceful moment, one that you found yourself eager to meld into as you laughed alongside him.Â
âGreenie day. Iâm surprised you didnât remember though, youâre usually more on top of it than I am.âÂ
You hummed. It was odd, how something so big followed by the most looked forward to night of the month followed right after slipped your mind, but you figured that in combination to the surge of new Runners and having to train them alongside Minho had proved to be a bigger distraction than you had originally though. So you shrugged, a content sigh tugging at your lips as you leaned into Newt with a nod.
ââspose so. Letâs just hope they arenât another nutjob like Gally.â
