I always struggled drawing hands before anyone told me what to do. So here is a HANDy dandy drawing reference to see the steps on an actual hand. There are three big muscles in the palm. The thumb lump is most important because without it you’ll never even get the shape right. Circle up the knuckles and draw bendy lines (red) to connect them. Make sure the fingers go from medium-tall-short-shortest just slightly (index=>pinky finger). Notice the big red squareish shape around the palm-that’s the first thing I do. Note: every infer has 2 knuckles don’t forget the thumb does too…just in a weird way.
Hi, I hope this is alright to ask but I've been having such a hard time with coloring digitally, and I was wondering if you had any tips for coloring skin? Every time I try, my work ends up unfinished and very overdramatic looking. While your art is much more beautiful- even in its simplistic look it has a polished and completed feel to it. Are there any exercises or simple tricks that you would recommend to a beginning digital artist? Thank you for taking the time to read this!
my skin coloring is very very minimal, as well as my coloring in general. Instead of shading in a very detailed manner, I use colorful line art in order to give a bit of depth to my characters. my tips is exploring - just play with your graphic program, try new things and new tools. these programs may seem intimidating because there are so many options and tools, but just try to experience them one by one. you will surely find out interesting effects and techniques! my second tip is try to learn from other artists. look at their work and try to learn as much as you can from their style, then try these things yourself! in the process, you will make the technique your own. just have fun with it! it may seem like there’s a “right” way to do things, but there really isn’t. good luck! ♥

Hey folks–Paul here, filling in for Meg on TUTOR TUESDAY! A couple things not mentioned in the images above:
If you want to fact-check the hair claim (and enjoy some cat pictures), see my personal blog @whatsapatfour
I have a newfound respect for how much work these “TUTOR TUESDAY” posts take. (Meg makes it look easy!)
Thanks again Meg for the ones you’ve done so far, and we’re all looking forward to your return. Have a good one, everybody!
