First Quarter:

can see a clear half-moon in the sky. at half power. sun is side by side with moon

best for: reflection, taking a pause, revel in what you have been working on and celebrate achievements. think about how u want to celebrate full moon, get ready for serious action.

Waxing Gibbous:

slither of dark moon left unseen. one step away from full power

best for: let go of what is holding you back, let go of any negativity in your life. Examples: self-limiting beliefs, people who aren’t great for you or your life, fear and basically anything that isn’t serving you or letting you progress in your life. Cleanse yourself and home.

Waning Moon:

power of moon is nearly over. small crescent left in night’s sky. nearly time for new moon and new beginnings.

best for: take a deep breath and surrender to whatever happened and what is beyond your power. don't beat yourself up if you didn't complete any of your goals. dust yourself off and pick yourself up and get ready for a new cycle. Remember to be kind and compassionate to yourself.

Beginner Witch Tip: Remember The Five W’s!

IE, Who, What, When, Where, and Why. Whenever you’re doing research, keep these in mind! For example, let’s say you read a statement like “[Goddess Name] is associated with love.” You’d want to ask yourself questions like: Who associated this goddess with love? Which culture(s) did this? What kind of love did they associate this goddess with? Are we talking sweet, cuddly, romantic love, or burning flames of rip-roarin’ passion kind of love? Or something else? When did people associate this goddess with love? Was she always associated with love or was it an attribute she acquired later on? Or was this association held early on but dropped later? Where did people associate this goddess with love? Did this association vary between regions? Why did people perceive this goddess this way? What values, mores, and lived experiences influenced their perceptions? Or for another example, let’s say you’re reading a witchcraft book. You might ask questions like: Who wrote this book? Do they have any scholarly credentials? What’s their cultural background? And who is this book marketed toward? What kind of politics and worldview does this book advocate? What conclusions does it lead you toward? When was this book written? Is it perhaps relying on out-of-date scholarship or now-discredited ideas? Where did the author come from? How might their environment have affected their worldview? Why did the author write the book? What were their motivations? I mean, the book probably says that they want to enlighten and empower you, but is that really the goal here? Or was the author just looking to make a buck, or were they trying to push some sketchy agendas? Remember: the more detailed answers you can find, the better! For example, “this goddess was petitioned for relationships in the 8th century BCE” is better than “this goddess was worshiped in ancient times.” And “this author was born in Paris in 1581″ is better than “this author was born in Renaissance Europe.” Of course you won’t always be able to find detailed answers, but you should always be looking!

Witchcraft: Warding

Warding is the method of casting a shield or barrier to defend and protect a space, person, portal, or item or to deflect potential negative energies and dangers. This is a remarkably important intention to consider and practice.

Adding protective symbols, shapes, or colors into your wardrobe or space. Smoldering incense, bundles, herbal blends, or (legally) blowing smoke. Personal:

Casting a bathing or shower ritual; running water is considered very sacred and will protect as well as cleanse your soul of other energies.

Spatial:

Using smoke like an incent, bundle, or blend around your residence. Growing, hanging, or burning protective or plants throughout your space. Enchanting your crystals, salts, herbs, potions with defensive wards. Sealing mirrors, covering them or inscribing them with sigils or symbols.
