Guinan also speaks all the languages so she can translate when Data is busy

hypothetical “the universal translator has stopped working” episodes are always one of my favorite ideas. but something i’ve hardly ever seen anyone propose is some people speaking hybrid languages, which would definitely make sense for people who grew up in multiethnic households, or in the case of bajorans in areas where cardassian presence was particularly heavy, or people who grew up somewhere that isn’t their species’ home planet.
