You'd be backstage, trying to get your makeup and everything together, the friends you had that stayed backstage also trying to help

The buildup to opening night was so stressful.

Tech week had been awful, a few sets even broke mid-week, because two guys started a fight over a fucking color

Those sets had to be pushed to the side so everyone could finish the rest, get props ready, costumes, etc. and were finally hurriedly fixed at the end of the week

Multiple cast members harshly critiqued others on their acting skills or commented on some costumes and props, no matter how accurate they were to (the original media/the scriptwriters' initial vision)

You knew the shows break time would be the worst, you just hoped cast members wouldn't get into any fights

Your phone pinged, and immediately you grabbed it. It was Ling, your boyfriend

"Hey, I'm here! Where r u?" - the message reads

"Backstage" - your message reads

Almost immediately, the door gets kicked down, and there stands your boyfriend with a goofy grin

"Hi hon! Oh, you look stressed." Ling falters a bit, then gently grabs your arms and stands close to you. "Are you alright? Should I have brought more (favorite treat)?"

Ling had noticed before opening night how stressed you had been

So, being the amazing boyfriend he is, he was by your side whenever he could

He was cuddling you, giving you your favorite sweets, watching whatever shows you wanted to watch, giving you so much affection leading up to opening night; Ling was your saving grace

"No, no, it's fine. I'm really just nervous about the break."

"Oh," He draws out. "Okay. Well, if you want me back here then, I can do that."

"I don't think you're allowed." You giggle.

"I have my ways, hon." Ling embraces you, giving you a kiss.

Your friend going on stage with you knocked on the door and walked in. "Oh! (Y/n), sorry. Just came in here to say we're going on in five."

"Okay, thank you (friend name)."

They gave you a thumbs up and left. You turned back to Ling.

"You should head to your seat."

"I got front row, so you better blow a kiss or two at me." Ling teased, kissing you again and squeezing you in his embrace.

You laughed. "I expect nothing less, my lovely prince."

You both share one last kiss before Ling reluctantly pulls away. "I'll be back here at half time."

You laughed and nodded, waving him off. "I'll see you in the crowd."

"I wont blink for a second."

"...Ling, you keep your eyes closed."

At that, Ling opened his eyes. "I'll just have to keep 'em open, yeah?"

He then stuck his tongue out at you, making you giggle again. He then moved to the door.

"I love you, and your lovely laugh. I will see you at half time."

Ling then blows you a kiss before leaving, making you giggle again.

"Yeah...with you, I just might." You'd whisper, before adding on any finishing touches before joining everybody behind the curtain.

(Y/n) was just trying to eat his dinner peacefully for the night. The restaurant was small and not too busy, it was just one of many ramen places. It was relatively quiet in the place. He was pretty sure he was the only customer.

Then, the door opened with a loud bang!

"I can't believe her!" A tiny blonde man came sauntering in, a taller man in a full suit of armor coming in behind him.

(Y/n) just sat there dumbfounded. 'What the hell...? Who're these two?'

The two of them were seated near (Y/n), who could only stare more. Eventually, the tiny one with anger issues noticed, and began to pipe up.

"What're you lookin' at?" The short man growled.

"You're...really tiny." (Y/n) spoke bluntly.

The guy in the suit of armor seemed to tense, while the tiny one just became angrier. He let out a growl before lunging at (Y/n), but the suit of armor caught him mid-air.

"Sorry! So sorry about my brother! He's sensitive about his height..." The suit of armor spoke with an oddly high voice...

"Uh...sorry." (Y/n) says, still stunned by their peculiar appearances.

"Yeah?! You will be sorry!" The tiny one screams.

"Hey, hey, calm down...here, as an extension of my apology, allow me to buy you both dinner."

That immediately calmed down the tiny man. "Alright, sure."

So, he did. He bought the two whatever they wanted for dinner that night, much to his wallet's chagrin...but, at least the small one wasn't angry with him.

"Y'know, I never got your names." (Y/n) said.

"Oh, I'm Edward Elric." The small one comments.

"I'm Alphonse Elric. We're brothers." The suit of armor happily gestures between the two of them.

"Ah, makes more sense now. I'm (Y/n) (L/n)." He smiles at the two.

Edward seems a bit taken aback by the smile, but covers up his flustered expression by drinking his drink. Alphonse keeps up the polite small talk while Edward sizes (Y/n) up. The (color) hair glowed nicely in the light of the restaurant, his voice smoothly talking over the quiet music in the background.

Edward felt his face heat up when (Y/n) looked at him.

"Would you like to add something, Edward? You've been staring at me all night, and barely touched your food."

"What?! I'm fine! Sh-shut up!" Edward suddenly lept forward and ate quickly out of his ramen bowl.

(Y/n) chuckled and nodded, continuing to talk to Alphonse about something. After everything was paid for, the trio left the restaurant. Alphonse and (Y/n) were saying their goodbyes.

"I'll see you around, yeah, Edward?" (Y/n) smiles at the boy.

"...Ed."

"Hm?"

"Ed. Just- just call me Ed." The fiery blonde glanced away, face heating up once again.

"Aw, okay, Ed. I'll see you around." (Y/n) ruffled his hair before walking away.

Alphonse yelled a "goodbye!' after their new friend before nudging his brother.

"You were totally checking him out."

"I was not!"

Ling from the very beginning of your relationship (and even before tbh) that you'd be up all hours of the night for days on end sometimes

He did worry, but the only response you'd give him was "insomnia"

This man doesn't know boundaries, so he's gonna pry into why you have insomnia

If you tell him its some like, psychological or trauma-induced reason, he wont go further unless you tell him or invite him to ask questions

However, if it's genetic, there's really not much else he can pry about lol

Ling has a bad habit of getting you little plushies and piling them up on your bed, making you send pictures of the plushie collection he's gotten you so he can gush over how cute they are

The first time he comes over, the man bursts into your bedroom (ofc) and with his arms open, yells, "Plush-babies! Daddy's home!"

Speaking of the first time he came over, that was actually the best sleep you had ever gotten

You both were watching a movie, Ling had passed out an hour ago and you were left to your own devices as you laid on his chest

Eventually, your eyelids became heavy and you were knocked out for wayyy more hours than you usually are

You woke up to Ling moving around and the smell of (lunch food) cooking in the air

Ling snickered and kissed you on the cheek. "You slept like a little baby. You even drooled on me a little, see?"

And of course, the darker patch on his shirt was prevalent. You blushed in embarassment "Ling, I- I'm so sorry, I-"

"No, no hun! That just means you slept real good last night."

Ling then spent many, many nights at your house after that

Ling loves coming over after work, showering, then either you or him making dinner, then settling down to bed, having light pillow talk then falling asleep

Ling's never had trouble sleeping; we all know he's the classic "bottomless pit" anime character, and those characters always sleep soundly (and snore loudly) so he'll always fall asleep before you

Your little plush babies will be pushed against the wall, Ling's back or side to them, you either pressed into his chest or his side with his arm over you no matter what

The more you sleep with him (SFW UNDERTONES-) the more sleep habits you develop

One that Ling notices the most, is waking up to you clinging to him for dear life

He's usually awake before you, so he snaps a couple pictures of you sleeping on him, or next to him, while making a funny face if he is in the shot

He'll even tease you about it at the worst times

"I'm gonna get a drink," Ling stands from Ed's couch, then crouches in front of (Y/n). "Come on."

"I just figured you'd wanna cling to me? You seem tired."

He looked down, thinking you were awake, but was grateful that he found you sound asleep against him

When he brought you to his home and introduced you to his father, mother, and 49 other step-mothers and all of their children, you figured all the noise would keep you awake all night

When his father walked into your guest bedroom, he was surprised to see Ling next to you, three of your favorite plushies around you two as you sleep soundly in Ling's side. Ling looked up, motioned for his father to keep quiet, and waved hello

I can't really see him as being protective until he goes back home to Xing and becomes Emperor.

Although, that's for obvious reasons. Now that he's the Emperor, he now has enemies. Political and familial.

He's always with you unless absolutely necessary. His most elite and loyal guards are with you if he isn't.

He'll defend you as well from political enemies, like, lets say in a meeting.

"Emperor Yao, are you certain the (Emperor/Empress/Highness) should sit in this matter? I mean, not to disrespect your (husband/wife/spouse), but I intended this meeting to just be between you an-"

"(He/She/They) shall sit in the matter, because this country is just as much of (his/hers/theirs) as it is mine. Now, have a seat."

Or, he would be protective over you with Greed, if Greed ever somehow got a different body than Ling that looks like his identical twin. (just slightly taller-)

"Greed! Will you cut it out?!" Ling yells at him, holding you close.

"What? I just asked for a hug, prince." Greed grins, leaning closer to you.

"I said back off! (He/She/They) doesn't/don't want a hug from you!"

Or if someone looks at you weird in a bar, he'll wrap an arm around you and kiss your temple while making eye contact with the bastard to make it clear you're there with him

He'll never do that shit with your friends though. He trusts your friends, no matter the gender, because he trusts you wouldn't allow someone to harm you or him, just as he wouldn't

But anyone new entering your life, he may eye them down, but he'll leave that to you. He wont interact with them much

He's not like, crazy levels of protective, he just wants to make sure you're safe

Yes, even if you're taller and stronger than him

Speaking of, you're always little spoon. Being a prince who has his foot in the door as Emperor, he has a protector role about him when you cuddle

Keeping you away from them is his top priority, so he'll immediately look down at you with a smile and talk about something funny he did with Lan Fan or Ed

You'll be laughing and carrying on, and Ling'll kiss you, complimenting you as he does so. "You look so cute, I could just kiss you- mwah!"

Ling will then whisk you away, abandoning your drinks and losing the men in the dance crowd and successfully getting you away from danger

"Did you feel they disrespected you?"

"Maybe in the way he looked at me, but he could've just been tense from being in the same room as us..."

Ling will nod along with you, both of you elegantly strutting through the palace, leading you to the garden and taking a seat with you, grabbing your hand and kissing it. "I love you, sugarplum. I'm always gonna be here for you, y'hear?"
