MMMM insomniacs rise up (me, lol)

Ling from the very beginning of your relationship (and even before tbh) that you'd be up all hours of the night for days on end sometimes

He did worry, but the only response you'd give him was "insomnia"

This man doesn't know boundaries, so he's gonna pry into why you have insomnia

If you tell him its some like, psychological or trauma-induced reason, he wont go further unless you tell him or invite him to ask questions

However, if it's genetic, there's really not much else he can pry about lol

Ling has a bad habit of getting you little plushies and piling them up on your bed, making you send pictures of the plushie collection he's gotten you so he can gush over how cute they are

The first time he comes over, the man bursts into your bedroom (ofc) and with his arms open, yells, "Plush-babies! Daddy's home!"

Speaking of the first time he came over, that was actually the best sleep you had ever gotten

You both were watching a movie, Ling had passed out an hour ago and you were left to your own devices as you laid on his chest

Eventually, your eyelids became heavy and you were knocked out for wayyy more hours than you usually are

You woke up to Ling moving around and the smell of (lunch food) cooking in the air

Ling snickered and kissed you on the cheek. "You slept like a little baby. You even drooled on me a little, see?"

And of course, the darker patch on his shirt was prevalent. You blushed in embarassment "Ling, I- I'm so sorry, I-"

"No, no hun! That just means you slept real good last night."

Ling then spent many, many nights at your house after that

Ling loves coming over after work, showering, then either you or him making dinner, then settling down to bed, having light pillow talk then falling asleep

Ling's never had trouble sleeping; we all know he's the classic "bottomless pit" anime character, and those characters always sleep soundly (and snore loudly) so he'll always fall asleep before you

Your little plush babies will be pushed against the wall, Ling's back or side to them, you either pressed into his chest or his side with his arm over you no matter what

The more you sleep with him (SFW UNDERTONES-) the more sleep habits you develop

One that Ling notices the most, is waking up to you clinging to him for dear life

He's usually awake before you, so he snaps a couple pictures of you sleeping on him, or next to him, while making a funny face if he is in the shot

He'll even tease you about it at the worst times

"I'm gonna get a drink," Ling stands from Ed's couch, then crouches in front of (Y/n). "Come on."

Riza is pretty stoic and never interacts with Ling

Let's just picture: Lust is still alive, and begins interacting with Ling cause he has Greed's philosopher's stone

It doesn't even have to be anything inherently romantic. Lust is forced to interact with Ling because he holds her "brother"

But it was one comment from her that set you off

She was in the other room with Greed, and you'd decided to listen in. They were talking about someting with Father and some guy named Hoenheim

"Honestly?" Lust said. "Your new host is really cute...too bad he's so young."

"Hm? Oh, yeah." Greed brushed her comment off and continued the conversation like before

Greed knows you and Ling are a thing and has your back. Plus Ling was freaking the fuck out in their shared headspace.

But, that was enough for you to creep away from the door and sit on the couch. Lust was attractive, and her main game was seducing men to get what she wanted...

What if she wants Ling?

So many what if's swam through your head. Your heart thumped rapidly in your chest, your lungs feeling like they weren't getting enough air, your eyes stinging with tears as constant images of Ling and Lust together began to haunt you.

Slowly curling up into yourself, you turned so your face was plastered into the couch cushion

The ringing in your ears grew louder and you soon tuned out Lust and Greed, now being replaced by image after image of Ling with Lust

You refused to let tears fall, not wanting to bother Ling with this whenever Lust leaves and Greed puts Ling back

You didn't know how long you'd laid there until a pair of hands landed on your side. You jumped and turned. Ling's eyes were still a mahogany red, which meant Greed was still in control.

"Hey kid. From the look on your face, I'm assuming you heard what Lust said."

"Is it that obvious...?" You say, rubbing your eye.

Greed patted your head. "Sorry, kid."

"Sorry for wha-"

Greed had closed his eyes and allowed Ling to take over again. The prince pounced on you, rubbing his cheek with yours, ecstatic to be back in control

Ling's memory is spotty when Greed is in control, so he didn't know you'd heard Lust's comment

You hesitantly wrapped your arms around Ling, mumbling a low "hi"

Ling paused. "I know that tone. What's wrong, honey?"

Ling, your ever doting boyfriend, looked at you with concern.

"No, I'm...I'm fine."

"You sure? Your breathing heavier than normal..."

You gave Ling a fake smile. "Yeah, yeah."

Ling snickered at the end, kissing your forehead. "I promise, I'd never let her get close to me. Greed and her just needed to talk about something is all. I love you, okay?"

Numbly, you nodded, laying your head on his chest. "I love you too."

"Now, let's watch a movie and order in, yeah? I'll get your favorite~!"

He suddenly got up and moved to your TV, messing with it, then fiddling with his phone and ordering your favorite food for delivery. As you watched him, you felt the oxygen slowly return to your chest, and your muscles relaxed. You could trust Ling, he loved you. He really did. He wouldn't be doing this if he wasn't.

"Hey, Ling."

"Yeees, sugarplum?" Ling looked up from his spot on the floor.

"I love you."

Ling giggles. "I love you too! Food'll be here in fifteen, okay?"

I can't really see him as being protective until he goes back home to Xing and becomes Emperor.

Although, that's for obvious reasons. Now that he's the Emperor, he now has enemies. Political and familial.

He's always with you unless absolutely necessary. His most elite and loyal guards are with you if he isn't.

He'll defend you as well from political enemies, like, lets say in a meeting.

"Emperor Yao, are you certain the (Emperor/Empress/Highness) should sit in this matter? I mean, not to disrespect your (husband/wife/spouse), but I intended this meeting to just be between you an-"

"(He/She/They) shall sit in the matter, because this country is just as much of (his/hers/theirs) as it is mine. Now, have a seat."

Or, he would be protective over you with Greed, if Greed ever somehow got a different body than Ling that looks like his identical twin. (just slightly taller-)

"Greed! Will you cut it out?!" Ling yells at him, holding you close.

"What? I just asked for a hug, prince." Greed grins, leaning closer to you.

"I said back off! (He/She/They) doesn't/don't want a hug from you!"

Or if someone looks at you weird in a bar, he'll wrap an arm around you and kiss your temple while making eye contact with the bastard to make it clear you're there with him

He'll never do that shit with your friends though. He trusts your friends, no matter the gender, because he trusts you wouldn't allow someone to harm you or him, just as he wouldn't

But anyone new entering your life, he may eye them down, but he'll leave that to you. He wont interact with them much

He's not like, crazy levels of protective, he just wants to make sure you're safe

Speaking of, you're always little spoon. Being a prince who has his foot in the door as Emperor, he has a protector role about him when you cuddle

You can always tell when he's protective, too. He obviously doesn't wanna draw attention to a potentially dangerous situation unless he has to, so lets go back to the bar for example.

Ling notices and brings you closer, immediately pulling your drink closer to the both of you, as if it hadn't been already

Keeping you away from them is his top priority, so he'll immediately look down at you with a smile and talk about something funny he did with Lan Fan or Ed

You'll be laughing and carrying on, and Ling'll kiss you, complimenting you as he does so. "You look so cute, I could just kiss you- mwah!"

Ling will then whisk you away, abandoning your drinks and losing the men in the dance crowd and successfully getting you away from danger

Or, after political meetings, he'll often ask how you feel. Specifically about that leader you met with.

"Did you feel they disrespected you?"

"Maybe in the way he looked at me, but he could've just been tense from being in the same room as us..."

Ling will nod along with you, both of you elegantly strutting through the palace, leading you to the garden and taking a seat with you, grabbing your hand and kissing it. "I love you, sugarplum. I'm always gonna be here for you, y'hear?"

I don't ship it, I genuinely think Ling and Lan Fan have a sibling relationship; Or better yet she's his lesbian best friend. I see the appeal, I think it can be cute ig but I just don't see it nessicarily?

I also see Ling as seeing Fu and Lan Fan as the family he has (Similar to how I think Ed sees Pinako and Winry, as his grandmother and either sister or cousin), rather than thinking of someone such as Mei Chang as family despite bonds of blood. (Bonds through the soul, like he explained to Greed. I will keep bringing that up.)
