I'll go with a backstory snippet from The Forgotten Ones for this one because I still need to write some more content for Supernova Initiative (:

There were footsteps on the corridor outside the rusted, magically suppressant iron door of the cell. Nursing a myriad of lashes, cuts, and bruises from his latest session under the Magisters 'ministrations', Asael painstakingly dragged himself into a somewhat seated position, as he always did.

Behind him, Deryc was still asleep, wrists rubbed raw by the iron cuffs, somewhat bruised but otherwise untouched. He wanted to keep it that way for as long as he could manage to keep the brunt of the Inquisition's wrath away from his Kindred. But that didn't mean that every time those soldiers walked down that hall his heart didn't start racing in his chest like a hare fleeing from a wolf.

It wasn't long until the footsteps that had been coming closer and closer stopped the door was unlocked. Two armored knights stood at the threshold and the red-robed figure of the Magister strode into the frigid cell. Asael recognized the man and felt the last, damaged shreds of hope in his heart wither and die.

This guy was one of the worst ones.

"Have you changed your mind, heretic?"

Asael closed his shaking hands into fists, and as he opened his mouth to speak, he heard a slight rustle, followed by a sleepy hum and the clinking of chains. Deryc had woken up, and as much as Asael adored his Kindred's company, the young man couldn't have picked a worse time to make his presence known.

"I don't know," Deryc began with a tone that meant nothing but trouble. Asael wanted to scream through their bond for him to just shut up and not aggravate the situation. He would have if their magic wasn't being cut off, "Have you changed your mind about being a bigoted asshole?"

🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?

Thank you for the Ask @saturnine-saturneight! Since we were talking about my WIP Supernova Initiative earlier today, I'll go with characters from that WIP for this one!

🧊 - Is their current design the first one?

JACK - Jack Tithus' design has changed a bit from the first one/original idea. Overall, his clothing styles, height, and general appearance have indeed remained similar, but there were quite a few changes. The main difference is that he originally had short dark brown hair, and now he has a medium-length asymmetrical bob and his hair is bright auburn. There were a few reasons why I changed his original design:

For some reason, my brain refused to imagine him with brown hair, and every time I envisioned him he had dark auburn hair;

His first design didn't seem to match his personality well - he is a very flashy guy, so I don't think a traditional short haircut would be really his style, so I changed his haircut to a longer asymmetrical bob (with an undercut),

I wanted to differentiate Jack - who is the Main Character - from some other characters in the crew who would also have brown hair (namely Aleks, who has dark hazel brown hair, and Artemis, who has dark brown/light black hair).

GABI - Gabi's design actually didn't change that much from when I first envisioned her. She is one of those characters that have been really clear to be from the first concept that led to the creation of the character. She has long brown hair, which she often streaks red or pink, but never fully. She also usually wears practical clothes in a style similar to our Earth's 'grunge', with a futuristic/cyberpunk twist - but she also often has bright, girly accessories that she is very proud of. Generally, I think that her design has remained largely the same ever since I created this character.

VESPER - Vesper is one of those characters that changed A LOT throughout the development of the story. Originally, she wasn't even a cyborg, nor a lethal assassin on the path to revenge. Her original concept was as a secret agent for the Junction who had been betrayed/abandoned by a loved one. However, that idea didn't stick with the character and that concept instead gave origin to Noctus (who is a secret agent working for the Junction and has a past he does not remember), while I reworked Vesper into a completely different character. I scratched the idea of her siding with the Junction entirely, and instead made her a lethal enemy of the regime: she's now a Khosmonian - whose homeworld was raided under the behest of the Junction for refusing to comply - and a girl who wants revenge for the brutal death of her older brother (which she witnessed) and the disappearing of her mother, who likely died in the bombings of her planet. She is a Vorzar by birth (an alien species native to the planet of Luk'tih) but turned herself into a cyborg in order to become deadlier and semi-immortal (she's tougher to be killed, and can regenerate easily) in a way.

🍀 - What originally inspired the OC?

(Vague Inspiration/Vibes)

JACK - Poe Dameron (Star Wars), Robin Hood (the folk tale), and Nightwing (DC). Jack is a charismatic leader with a heart of gold who would do anything to keep his team safe, even if it means being self-sacrificial (much like all three of those characters). he also uses stealing as a way to rebel against the rich and powerful (kind of like a space-opera version of Robin Hood). He also has a strong spite against authority and is willing to take reckless risks in the name of what he considers right, characteristics all three of those characters possess!

GABI - Ellie Williams (The Last of Us TV Show), Vi (Arcane), and Hawks (MHA). Gabi is a fierce girl with a strong personality, a stubborn nature, and sometimes a fiery temper (much like Ellie and Vi). She also does not shy away from a fight and is quite good at it to be honest. Gabi also likes adventure, and doing things she's not supposed to do just for the thrills. She's also outgoing, charismatic, rebellious, and can be quite good at manipulating people in power to get what she wants.

VESPER - Arya Stark (GOT), Black Widow (Marvel), Kaz Brekker (Six of Crows). Vesper is a vicious alien assassin with a brutal past who "upgraded" herself with priceless tech to hunt down the people responsible for the deaths of her family, and who also has a strict moral compass and secretly cares a lot for her friends. Pretty much like those three characters too.

A genius young inventor, Cassiopeia - or Cassie, as she's usually called - has always had a knack for robot engineering, making her first robots out of scrap metal in a junkyard when she was just a little kid. She's the younger sister of Jack Tithus, her older brother and only guardian, who raised her alone after they were orphaned. Cassie has a big heart and an undyingly optimistic outlook in life - always looking for the fun and good side of things, even when there is practically none. She is a key character in this story, and the secrets encrypted into her blood are tied to one of the main plot twists of this book series!

Pronouns - She/her Age - 18 Current Role - Part of the main cast Appearance - Cassie has medium to long curly dark brown hair, which she usually paints/streaks in different shades of blue and purple, a habit she has had ever since she was a little kid. She's around 5,3ft or 161cm, and while she is rather slim she is also surprisingly strong. Her usual outfit consists of a colorful T-shirt with a fun print, oversized - often in neon hues - hoodies, cargo pants with flashy belts, and a pair of old purple sneakers. She always wears her half of the trinket necklace, which matches the half she gave to Jack as a gift.

I'll go with Jack, Gabi, Deimos, and Lyorna from Supernova Initiative!

Jack Tithus - He's one of my favorite characters I've ever written, so I basically like everything about him LMAO. But if I had to choose, I would say I like how he is fiercely protective of his friends and family, how he is effortlessly charming and funny when he wants to be, his youthful nature, and his defiance towards authority that leads him to be almost reckless when it comes to fighting for what he believes in.

Deimos Soll - I love how cold, ruthless, and downright badass Deimos can be in combat, as he is one of the most efficient and deadly snipers in this story. I also like his character growth throughout the book and how he undergoes multiple changes during the story. I also like how, despite being a smooth-talking, cunning, and often deceitful young man, he ultimately chooses to do what is truly right and be loyal enough to help his friends out of the mess he got them into.

Gabi Ophyria - I like her fiery nature and often brash personality which hides a heart of gold deep down. How she is someone who will never back down from a fight and often solves problems with her fists rather than thinking things through, but is still a kind, passionate, and lively young girl who stands up for the underdogs and loves her friends and family fiercely, more than anything.

Lyorna Alyrii - She's a delicate, introverted girl who prefers to solve things through diplomacy and loves finding beauty in the world even when things seem hopeless. Despite what this might lead some to believe, her graceful exterior hides nerves of steel and a fierce determination - most underestimate her based on assumptions, and that's the worst mistake they could ever make. She's brilliant and sharp, and though she believes in mercy and kindness first, no one should ever want to see her bad side and how far is willing to go if someone tries to cause her or her loved ones harm.
