Harald Finehair is a strange king.

An old but fit man whose dregs at the bottom of your cup read malfortune. A loss, you could sense. A loss of a wife, a child, a brother. You swirl the tea as you sit in your throne. The young messenger came to request an audience earlier that day. Yet here he was again, rubbing sweaty hands at the base of your throne, begging for an audience for his king. As queen, you had the ultimate say.

“King Harald Finehair of Vestfold, Al-Drottining.”

You lift your head from the cup and set it aside on the white ashy arm of your throne. Then gathering your skirts, you rise from your seat. The king is shorter than you expect, but powerful just the same. His dark brown hair swept back from the tattoos that etch in his creased aged skin. Those eyes, though. They frighten you. Murky and dark as they were, twinkling in amusement as you came to a stop in front of him. He sets his hand to cup hand in front of his lap. His men mirror such action.

“Queen (Y/N) of Svalland, Al-Drottining of my people under Frigg’s wise eye. A lover of Thor, I see. A good king has been said to respect Thor as you have.”

He looks down to where your finger has shifted, tapping his pendant on his hairy chest. You then shift your finger away, not forgetting the way his cheeks have warmed up. “But sadly,” you say. “The gods favour lovers of Odinn.”
