Look, if you wanna use the word queer to describe yourself that's fine. Do whatever you want mate. I just don't like queer theory because it alienates me as a transsexual guy from cis het guys just because I'm trans. Being born like this doesn't make me part of any community or movement. I'm just someone with a male brain who was born with the wrong parts, I'm still just some guy.
And there is no "us". Funny how a lot of the ridicule and hate I've got from people was from queer people. Way more cis het guys have taken me seriously and made me feel welcomed than queer people. I know I sound privileged (though that's questionable considering there's a huge sum of cash I gotta pay just to have the correct body) but but I really don't get the us vs them mentality that you've got.
I'm not trying to invalidate you. If you feel correct as having a community and the word queer, good for you. But don't politicise being trans or that being trans inherently makes someone part of some sort of movement.
I can’t tell you how frustrating it is to have been in the queer movement for 20+ years, to have studied queer theory, to have contributed to you potentially enjoying the rights you have today because I was part of a groundswell of lobbying and direct action in the 1990s….
…to have a 15 year old who’s spent maybe 8 months being political and has never inquired about queer history anonymously message me, “EXCUSE ME QU**R IS A SLUR LMAO OMG EMBARRASSSING AN aCTUAL ADULT WHO THINKS IT’S OKAY TO USE QU**R!~!!!!”
Dude, we are a slur. Queer folks are a slur to conservative straight people. Everything we are will be used as a slur by everyone who hates us. Gay is a slur. Lesbian is a slur. People will try to use all of our words against us. Don’t fucking let them get into your head to the point at which you’re telling actual queer people not to use the words we’ve used to unite ourselves and empower ourselves for decades.
Tfw I am 5′1″ and a guy lol.
it could be worse. you could be 5′1″.
Fallout doesn’t have races. Not in the same way that something like LOTR does. People aren’t born supermutants or ghouls, they become supermutants or ghouls after being exposed to enough radiation/ FEV. And they aren't even presented as evil, they are presented as people. In FO3 there’s a whole city of ghouls who just live peacefully and don’t bother anyone. There are evil ghouls, good ghouls, ghouls in lost of different factions. Similarly, in Fallout NV, there’s a town full of supermutants. In FO3, there’s a companion called Fawkes who is a supermutant who only sticks around with you if you have good karma. And I’m struggling to think of any “good race” is Fallout who is presented the same way that say, the Elves are presented in LOTR. Look, I’m mixed race myself I know that racism in media is a huge problem and I’m not a fan of personality traits being assigned to races like they are in DND or LOTR. I’m not saying the Fallout franchise is perfect and admittedly I can only talk about FO3 and NV because I haven’t had the chance to play any of the other games in the series. But I think to say that Fallout does the “good race bad race” thing isn’t really true.
Just in case you were wondering: any piece of media that creates “good” and “bad” races (Skyrim, Fallout, LOTR, D&D, etc), is racist. Any piece of media that presents a single “good” member of an “evil” race, or in which the “evil” members of a race far outnumber the “good” members, is racist. Any piece of media that uses the fact that the evil races are permanently and unchangingly evil - even though there may or may not be exceptions! - to justify the genocide and extermination of that race, is racist.
This is not a Watsonian argument. The relative goodness or evilness of a good or evil race, in that piece of media, is irrelevant. The fact is, if you write a story that pits two different races against one another, and one is deemed good and one is deemed evil, that is racist.
Yes it absolutely does
russian hardbass absolutely Fucks
Society being progressive isn’t gonna make dysphoria go away for a lot of us because we were BORN with it. Even like 100 years in the future when gender roles are completely different and stuff there will still be trans men who need a dick and who need to physically transition. I didn’t grow up with the notion that you need to have a dick to be a man and I’ve still had bottom dysphoria since I was very young, because in my brain there’s an intrinsic need for certain parts. If anything the people around me shit on me for needing lower surgery. My dysphoria doesn’t come from societal expectation because I’ve had it even before I knew I was a guy, it’s just something that kind of exist in isolation. This isn’t meant to shit on anyone who’s dysphoria lessened after they stopped comparing themselves to cis people btw, just that it doesn’t work for everyone and you can’t just claim that everyone’s dysphoria is societally caused. Idk sorry if this came across as aggressive I’m just real tired of seeing post like “In the future trans men wont need a penis or t because there wont be a gender binary” because what I am and what I was born was not cause by society and people like me will exist forever.
No Nuance November: The reason we're seeing trans kids with less dysphoria isn't that they're transtrenders; it's that as trans acceptance progresses and trans people are better represented, kids are exposed to tons of different ways to be men and women and both and neither. Like, you're less likely to think you need to have a penis to be a "real man" if you've seen tons of real men who don't living happy, authentic lives. If you aren't forced to compare yourself exclusively to cis people, you're less likely to focus exclusively on things that differentiate you from cis people and more likely to focus on what makes you feel comfortable and seen and understood.
