I’m going with Andre bc that man is still so possessive and worried someone will swoop Cal away if he’s not quick enough (like even after all those years.. he has a lot of self doubt. It’s not really that he thinks badly of Cal)

okay so i don’t see them having a “traditional” proposal, like one where someone gets down on one knee and gives a little speech before asking for the others hand in marriage. when they do get engaged, though, it’s personal and sweet. it’s perfect for them.

andre is the one who brings it up. they’re in bed, lying next to one another while talking about their future. andre was about to graduate from the university of connecticut with a degree in engineering, and cal had recently gotten a job (probably something related to helping troubled kids). cal was asking andre if it was too late for him to go to college, even if it was just community college, and andre said no, of course.

in that moment, with their voices quiet and the noises of the streets below their apartment, andre realized he couldn’t imagine a future that cal was not in. every time he dreamed about coming home from his job in 30 years, cal was waiting for him. if he dreamed about moving out of his apartment, cal was helping him bring in boxes. cal was always there.

andre was drawing patterns onto cal’s arms, tracing his scars, when he suddenly stopped. cal looked over to him.

“cal, would you ever leave me?”

the question stunned cal. of course he wouldn’t. does andre actually think he would? “andre, what the fuck? no, absolutely not.”

they fell into silence until andre said cal’s name again and received a curious hum in reply. andre continued talking.

“would you marry me?”

cal looked over to see a scared look on andre’s face, as if that question was the deciding factor of whether he’d live or die, and it honestly was. cal didn’t hesitate before saying yes.

imagine if zero day didn’t happen. cal and andre attend the university of connecticut. they share a dorm and stay as close as ever. these photos would be from a friday night. parties would be going on all over campus, but they aren’t interested. they prefer being alone together. it’s the most fun they’ve ever had. this is the sight andre has every night, and it’s heaven.

Do u have any thoughts about what if one of the boys failed their suicide attempt 😨😨😨 I always think about what if Andre really had been too scared to actually pull the trigger even after Cal does. Like I think canonically he only pulls it after Cal does so what if like,, a mix of him still being unsure if he wants to actually do it and the shock of seeing cal do it made him freeze up for too long so he gets taken away alive.

I haven’t really thought of what it would be like if Andre died and cal somehow survived tho.. I would think that would only happen by pure ‘luck’ that cal aimed just slightly wrong or whatever

I think both of them would try multiple times to die while locked up if something like those scenarios happened lol

before cal could finish saying three, andre tore the gun away from his chin and reached out for cal’s arm. he was too late. cal had pulled the trigger on three instead of go like they had decided on. he was ready to die. he wanted to die.

the sight was something from andre’s worst nightmares. he expected to shake from sleep, covered in sweat and tears, but this was different. he could feel pieces of cal’s brain on him, warm and splattered on his face. the blond boys legs became limp underneath him, sending him falling back.

andre couldn’t breath. the room became stale, as if no air was present. andre’s heart twisted. it didn’t break; it wasn’t in halves. it was twisted and warped and unrecognizable. the older boy’s eyes almost bulged out of his head. blinking was not an option as he couldn’t tear his eyes away from cal, not even for a split second.

yells explode from behind andre, but this time it wasn’t students. it was police. they grabbed him, dragging him out of the room.

the world felt small. andre couldn’t feel the hands on him. he couldn’t feel anything other than the red and gore on his skin, in his hair, in his teeth. the world was shrinking, and soon it would no longer have room for andre.

as andre was placed in a cop car, the screams of students and the wails of the sirens were silent. the gun shot reverberated around in his head as if it was his head and remains that lay on the floor inside.

the feeling would never go away, even as andre tied his sheets around his throat in his cell. as he stepped off the small metal toilet and the fabric tightened, cal’s names fell from his lips.

how do you think rachel would've reacted after seeing cal and andre's crosses burnt down to ash? i've been wondering this for a bit now and i just wanted to ask

rachel would be furious. she wouldn’t be angry. she wouldn’t be frustrated. furious. she would be shaking with anger the moment she saw footage of the crosses burning on the news.

the nights that she had spent at cal and andre’s crosses, placing roses at the base of the wooden sculptures, the conversations she had with the memories of them—all gone, all pointless.

her parents would try to comfort her, saying that those crosses weren’t their actual graves, but she would storm out of the house. her friends would say she shouldn’t feel bad, that cal was a piece of shit and that she didn’t like andre in the first place.

rachel would isolate herself, thinking no one understood her. no one knew cal like she did, other than andre, and he was gone.

she had changed her mind on andre, by the way. even though it was obvious he was a bad person, apparently cal was too. but if cal had loved andre so much to perpetrate zero day with him, she realized there must be something to love about the dark haired boy.

the way cal said “take me to andre’s please” so casually in the limo scene… everyone started to make fun of him, saying things like “oh, yeah, because everyone knows where andre’s is.” cal seemed slightly confused by this. the idea that not everyone loved andre as much as him hit him hard. andre’s house wasn’t just a friends house; it was his own as well.

also, the fact that he didn’t have to go to andre’s house. they didn’t film the final words until a couple days later. he simply didn’t want to spend the rest of the night without andre. he was stressed, and andre was his outlet.

@pristinepraise mentioned how cal’s parents would feel watching the security footage and learning that cal was definitely enjoying it more than andre in our texts … thinking about his parents seeing the footage for the first time in the court room and having to be escorted out.

it killed them to know their boy was involved but to see how much he loved what he did? they would think they raised him wrong, blame themselves for everything. they would see the video diary of cal saying their parents had nothing to do with it, but they wouldn’t believe it because he had lied to them about so much. why wouldn’t he lie about that? mr and mrs gabriel i love you so much
