Alden's "no reason to worry" thing makes it seem like he has a tendency to ignore problems/act like they don't exist, but the truth is actually the opposite. When the Council dismisses his concerns about Project Moonlark, he goes behind their back and spends 12 years searching for Sophie. He's constantly working on assignments, showing up in the middle of the night smelling like wildfires, etc.

He takes problems incredibly seriously. He just tries to downplay them for the sake of others, while trying to handle them on his own.

(That's what happens when someone is raised as the sole child of one of the most influential families in the world. He thinks that he's supposed to be capable of dealing with every problem by himself. That's also why, when he mind breaks, he doesn't tell anyone about the guilt he's feeling until it's too late.)

I was at work study and the girl I was working with asked for authors I liked and I was like “oh you know, Jennifer Lynn Barnes, Brandon Sanderson…” and then because I was feeling quite bold, I added, “Shannon Messenger.”

She was like “oh, I’ve heard of Shannon Messenger!”

And I was like “yeah hahaha… can’t wait for her new book to come out in December…”
