Because I Feel These Questions Go Together.

Because I feel these questions go together.

💥 What is one canon thing that you wish you could change?

😎 What fics do you prefer on a scale of canon compliant to wildly original?

💥: at the end of episode one of TLOU they play the song ‘Never Let Me Down Again’, which works really well, but I think the song ‘Nice Ocean Waves’ by Richard Rowler would work better. Like, listen to this and tell me it doesn’t fit the vibes better:

😎: Hmmmm, I really love both! I also write both! Recently I’ve been reading mostly AUs though, which are pretty fantastic!

Thanks for the ask!

And the thing I love about giving TV!Joel the aspect of feeling inadequate and frail is because-- even after grounding Joel's limits and capabilities more in reality-- the evidence still points to him being Extremely Fucking Capable.

99 percent of the time there is danger, Joel rises to the occasion and kicks absolute ass. He killed a soldier armed with a machine gun with his bare hands, sniped a path for Ellie through the infected, and murdered/interrogated 3 guys before he was even steady on his feet after being bed-ridden with blood loss and infection for days. A dedicated team of 5 fireflies could barely keep Marlene safe, but Joel delivered a 14 year-old across the country by himself. Joel is incredibly capable; his only problem is that he's human. He's not always able to do it all. He can't save everybody 100% of the time. He can't prevent all missteps. No one can. He may be getting slower and older, but we can see just how able he is to protect himself and his kid, and we can imagine what he was able to do during the time we didn't see him and Ellie. Joel killed someone to protect her on day 1 of knowing her-- he's able to do all these things and keep her safe and yet he truly believes he's not an adequate protector. He is so informed by his trauma that all he can see is every slip-up, every time when it would have worked out better if he had done something differently or been faster or more adept.

I don't think I'm saying anything particularly ground-breaking here, I just love how they added that Joel explicitly thinks he's incapable of being the one to protect Ellie. It speaks so much to a deeper aspect of who Joel is.

I’m so excited for s2, not just because of all the regular reasons, but also because FUCK THE FANART IS GONNA BE SO GOOD

TLOU has so much STUNNING fanart, and I can’t wait to see artists works inspired by s2!!

As @consultingzoologist pointed out, you see the color-scheme shift when the characters are alone and at their lowest points.

Ellie in Silver Lake…

…and Joel in the hospital…

…and once more you see that contrast…

…but this time Joel take Ellie out of the light

I love how TLOU HBO uses colors…

Before Sarah dies the colors are a lot warmer, a lot “kinder”, almost

But when she dies, and it transitions to present day, the colors get colder. More stark.

But Ellie’s colors are warm

And you see that contrast…
