fascinated by the insanely numerous strings of fate tying shawn and lassie together.

if one of them's somewhere, the other is either already there or not far behind, to lassiter's immense chagrin. shawn's present for and involved in the birth of his child. lassie ends up buying the spencers' home, his daughter destined to grow up in the same room shawn did. hell, before the two of them even met, shawn called in the blue sedan tip that led to lassiter catching the back bay killer — a large point of pride in his career as an officer — and let's not forget henry asking a newbie lassiter to take in shawn for the car theft, the one crime on his permanent record.

but wait, there's more!!! lassie accidentallies himself into befriending shawn's father, and then just when he's finding counseling that works, turns out his shrink is shawn's mother. oops! during the musical, does shawn ever dance or hold a duet with juliet? his girlfriend? no! but he does with lassie! they dance a hate tango!

i view Psych as a show about a man and the varying but equally meaningful relationships he has with three different people. with gus, that's a relationship of choice. they chose to be best friends as kids, and continue to choose each other over and over again. with juliet, that's a relationship of falling. they fell for each other so hard that a romance was inevitable. with lassiter? that's a relationship of fate, honey: something cosmic and unknowable keeps dragging them together, as much as lassiter kicks and screams in protest.

i think in a lesser show it would bother me that juliet doesnt have any real friends who are women (considering shes such a friendly person) but psych has always done such a good job at not just explaining her greater comfort with the guys but making their dynamic both endlessly sweet and endlessly hilarious. bedchel test is unnecessary when you can have 3 men in their early to late 30s all with comically 2000s confused relationships with emotions and masculinity Trying So Desperately Hard to help their dearly beloved one (1) female friend through her various emotional crises. the scene in "a very juliet episode" where they come to her desk and gus starts crying while lassiter chokes shawn out even as theyre trying to like. Be There For Her Emotionally. is one of my favorite scenes in television

WHY TF AM I SO MAD THAT JULES BROKE UP WITH SHAWN BECAUSE OF THE PSYCHIC THING!? LIKE HO PLS WE BOTH KNOW THAT'S REALLY IMPOSSIBLE AND AFJFJFJEKDJKDKFKFLSLFJSLSK HOW DID IT EVEN AFFECT THEIR RELATIONSHIP TO THAT DEGREE? YES I KNOW HE LIED THAT'S BAD BUT DANG WHAT HAPPENED TO LOVE? AT THIS POINT LOVE MEANS NOTHING RIGHT? I DON'T EVEN THINK THE LIE WAS THAT BAD CUZ BE BFFR OR AM I JUST A HATER? SORRY THIS WAS NOT SO GIRLBOSS OR GIRL'S GIRL FOR ME TO SAY BUT I DO NOT THINK IT WAS THAT DEEP. SHE THREW AWAY A MAN SHE CLEARLY VERY MUCH LOVED BECAUSE SHAWN WAS DISHONEST ABOUT ONE THING WHEN HER LYING FATHER HAD LEFT HER AS A CHILD AND NOW SHE PROJECTS HER TRAUMA IN HER RELATIONSHIPS AND omg was the daddy issues that bad? ANYWAYS I WOULD'VE TOTALLY UNDERSTOOD HER IF SHE BROKE UP WITH HIM IF HE ACTED EMOTIONALLY IMMATURE OR EMOTIONALLY DISTANT BUT NO SHE BROKE UP BECAUSE HE LIED ABOUT BEING FRICKIN PSYCHIC BUT HONESTLY WHAT I THOUGHT IT WAS OBVIOUS AND EVERYONE KNEW-
