BTS FANFIC WRITERS OF COLOR YOU NEED TO READ ASAP

Yesterday, I wrote about a post about the whitewashing that can happen in BTS fanfics and why we need POC writers in general - and in the BTS fandom. Today, I have a post with more than 60 BTS fanfic authors of color. Shout out to the Possums, my various contacts, and my other moots for their help.

The beauty of such a large and diverse BTS fandom is that there are so many talented ARMY authors in our fanfic communities. As I mentioned in my post about how whitewashed BTS fanfics can be, I get especially happy when I come across fellow POC writers. Thanks to my own reading and networks of BTS friends and writers, I’ve compiled a list of BTS fanfic writers of color as a jumping off point to explore more POC authors and content creators.

If you are a writer of color and I did not include you (or didn’t rec a fic of yours), it’s nothing personal. Sometimes, I don’t know if writers identify as POC or I just haven’t come across your fics yet. Feel free to comment with your handles and a fic to check out and I will try to add you or update when I get a chance (and if I don’t, at least it will be in the comments once the comment itself is approved or moderated).

Author’s Note: Yes, it’s a BTS fanfic with all the smut and fluff fixins. But hidden within is also a pop culture exercise. But woven within is also a pop culture commentary. Asian-American representation in Western media. Asian stars and how they’re covered in the West. Ageism in the industry. And speaking of age, I’ve also been thinking a lot about what it’s like to engage with pop culture (and Kpop specifically) now that I’m technically older than the usual targeted fanbase. I sometimes feel guilty for just existing and having preferences. Why is it so uncomfortable for grown, whole women to enjoy things? Why are noona romances so forbidden in Korean life, even though there’s a huge interest in them in Korean media? It’s not really the same as the perception of “cougars” in the West, where you can wear it like a badge instead of whispering it like a secret. Obviously, I’m barring anything illegal or inappropriate . I’m just asking – when it comes to enjoying pop culture, why do we expect women to opt-out once they reach some specific age? It’s like bloomtilweache said: “When you get older you will see you don’t just magically lose interest in things that make you happy.”
