hi, i'm using this theme for my blog and i'm so happy with it. I've been looking for something like this for a long long while now, something that has plenty of customizations that i don't have to put so much of my back into. something responsive for both desktop and mobile, something minimal and well-fitting to however many concepts or aesthetics. job well done, thank you for making this and all of your other themes - i checked them out too, and i gotta say; you're incredible! i wish your theme-making and blogging the best. thanks again! 😊

theme nine: lilac — one-column sidebar theme with an optional header inspired by social media post dashboards. made to commemorate the one-year anniversary of when i started this blog. it’s been a crazy year and i can’t believe how much this blog has grown, so thank you to all of you!

features and options:

sidebar with a 100px by 100px circular image and up to three custom links

optional header with a search bar, optional header image, and up to seven custom links. header image can be any height and is the same width as whatever post size you choose.

posts sizes: 400px, 450px, 500px, 540px.

option to show or hide captions, show tags or tags on click, optional post dropdown menu with extra post info.

options include: post margin, photoset gutter, drop shadows, rounded post and photo corners.

first npf photoset in a post will be converted to a regular photoset, thanks to this script by annasthms and codematurgy’s npf photoset script.

responsive for both desktop and mobile devices.

notes: 

tumblr’s customize page is very buggy and when you first install the theme, you have to toggle the options on and off to get them to work properly. if something doesn’t look right or the post captions disappear, save and exit because 99% of the time it will look fine on your blog.

icons are from Feather Icons and if you want to change them, go to the site, find the name of the icon you want, and enter it in the space in the customization panel.

there are only three custom links in the sidebar. links four to ten are in the header. if you do not toggle the header on, none of the links in the header will show up.

50 tips for (fanfic) writing

have fun

write whatever is interesting to you, even if it won’t be interesting to anyone else

appreciate kudos when they come, but don’t expect them

appreciate comments when they come, but don’t expect them

if you wish you could just write that one scene you have in your head, do that. you don’t need to create a 30K backstory for it first.

embrace one shots

embrace drabbles

embrace writing your story out of order

rough drafts are meant to be rough. if you can’t think of a word, put in a placeholder for it and keep going. 

try not to get stuck on the little things

it’s okay if your readers can’t see the picture inside of your head

some people work well when they have a posting schedule. some people work well when they don’t. it’s okay if you don’t know which kind of person you are, and it’s okay if the type of person you are changes over time.

if a rule you created for yourself isn’t working for you, get rid of that rule.

make fandom friends. even if they don’t read your fic, they’ll cheer you on while you write it.

cheer on other writers you know. you’ll be cheering yourself at the same time.

no trope or genre is better or worse than another one. they all just appeal to different audiences.

quality and popularity are not the same thing, although they do sometimes overlap

numbers and statistics will never tell you whether or not you’re a good writer. they will never tell you how valuable you are as a person. 

you belong in fandom if you want to be there

you’re a writer as soon as you start writing things

writing and posting are two different things. your story is still worth writing, even if you never plan to share it

you don’t need to apologize for what you write or what you post. 

don’t worry about taking up too much space. the internet doesn’t have a maximum size. 

keep your readers in mind when you’re tagging your content. how could they search for your fic? if you use a tag, will be a reader who loves that tag be satisfied with how much it appears in your story?

if you have a relationship in your fic that plays a minor role, tag it in the Additional Tags section instead of the Relationship section so that people who love that ship don’t get their hopes up

be cautious when looking at bookmarks on your fic. they aren’t “extra comments.” that’s a space where readers make notes for themselves and each other, not for authors. 

you don’t need to know everything about canon before you start writing fic

you don’t need to read fic in the same fandoms you write for

you don’t need to read fic at all in order to write it

love your work because sometimes you’re the only one who will - and that’s okay

if your hobby starts feeling like a job, you might need to take a break before you get burnt out

if you get stuck on a story, you can always start a new one

if you fall out of love with a story, you can always stop writing it. if you’re worried about your readers, you can always give them a bullet point summary of where you were planning to go with thing. for a lot of people, that’s satisfying and provides closure

if you get hate, report it

use the tools at your disposal to block hate before it can come in (limiting or turning off comments, limiting or turning off asks, blocking users, etc)

try replying to comments sometimes. it can be a lovely way to make fandom friends

don’t be afraid to reblog your own writing posts.

if you get stuck on your summary, just write 1) who the story is about 2) what they are doing and 3) what problem gets in their way

notice when your writing makes you smile. that moment is a gift. enjoy it.

even if you’re disappointed in how your story turned out, there’s something in there that’s fantastic. find that thing and focus on it and feel proud.

some ideas are ones you want to write. some are ones you want to read. if you ever have too many ideas to deal with at once, give some of the latter ones away to someone else. 

sometimes the things you write will be really personal. be careful about putting them where other people can comment. they won’t know how personal it is for you, and you need to remember that comments aren’t about you, they’re about the story.

remember that you can write series as well as stories. if the story is done but you still have passion or ideas, start a new one in the same universe.

enjoy the satisfaction of finishing a story. savour it. bask in it a little while.

don’t feel guilty about abandoning a story. not every story gets finished, and that’s okay

you can have separate accounts for different fandoms. you can have one account with a million fandoms in it. do whatever works for you.

sometimes writing is more important than sleep - but only sometimes

it doesn’t matter if that story has been written before by someone else. it doesn’t matter if it was written by you. write it again.

only follow the advice that makes sense to you. the rest isn’t important.

this isn't gonna be very convincing given the fact that i just restarted my blog but the stuff on this list actually works! most of these were applied to my older blog and i think that's what really helped it grow to what it was till i deactivated 😭 this is a real one you guys, give it a try!

First things first, what do you want to write about! You can build your writing blog around anything and everything - it’s fun to decorate your blog around your subject, so take your time!

Below are a few components of a writing blog! Each category can be done on one post or multiple (it just depends on your style!)

A Hello/Welcome

Short Bio

Fandom(s) (genshin impact, re-zero, demon slayer, etc) 

Rules / Requests

Anthology/Master list (to be made later)

Outside links (Kofi, A03, Twitter etc.) 

Extra: images / banners / emotes!

Rules

Make your rules clear and to the point (tell people what you will write and anything outside of that you won’t)

Characters you will / wont write for 

Genres (fluff/angst/etc)

SWF/NSF-W focus

what topics you will not write for -> these should be very specific, the more clear you make it the better readers will know what is outside of your comfort zone 

If you get a request you don’t like, or can’t write, answer it and let them know! Sometimes we get excited and forget to check something before sending it in. Sometimes we don’t think our request is uncomfortable - everyone is different (it’s okay to let people know you aren’t open to writing this or that - you show them respect and they will show it back to you 🙌)

Create this early! You want a place to keep all the works you create so people can find them! (note that tumblr limits hyperlinks on a single post to 100*)

Organization is different per person, i organize mine by: Genre, Series, Character

The fact you’d been shaken from that place of confidence by some thug doesn’t sit right in Yoongi’s belly. That bitter taste is back in his throat and it’s ice-cold, icicles prickling through his blood.

[🤙🏻] It's been.. maybe a week since I've read this. And you know what? I'm still looking for the right words to explain it. Of course I can explain it, but can I do it justice? No, I don't think I could if I pulled out the whole damn dictionary.

The first thing I wanna say is that I consider this a must-read. It's this incredible package of a fic ― there's a stupidly perfect amount of angst, there's godsent sex, there's soft shit AND THE PLOT?!?!

It's almost infuriating how flawless this is.

The second thing I want to talk about is the fact that I ended up screaming at my friends about this through text.

So I went on and on about how I don’t read that many Yoongi fics, but I tell my friend that I know one thing ― they'll never disappoint ― and this one surely didn't, it seriously hit. "I'm absolutely in love with this," I told her.

The next bits are about me relating to the reader (cause we’re both loud-kinda-annoying-kinda-endearing bitches™) which we’re gonna skip over cause I’m embarrassing! But it's basically my love for self-indulgent shit and how she's THE vibe.

Pushing past that, we have my love for their dynamic. I never actually have spared a thought to something like a gunsman-to-gunsmith pairing before this, but let me tell you ― this is to die for!

I love how it works with them specifically, and I ran out of words at this point so I just keyboard smashed. (facepalm)

But I really REALLY do love their dynamic! It made the story even more interesting and it might be my favorite part of all this.

Now we have a fully-caps-locked section, which is me yelling about my inner conflict. Which happens to be my halfway-through-the-fic self trying to decide whether or not Yoongi actually likes reader cause that man's mouth, mind and actions DO NOT go hand in hand 😭

I mean for ten-thousand-something words, he was all about that hE doEsnt liKe her!! But we just have to put some emphasis on the fact that he killed someone who hurt her AND might have sucker-punched his close friend (poor hoseok) in any case he didn't leave him and OC.

And after that I basically ran out of words! It was just me yelling "I LOVE THEM" and keyboard smashing, and screaming, and adding a minimum of three ughs to every sentence out of happy frustration.

All in all, I absolutely adored this fic. I loved the chosen settings for the story, the character’s personalities, the incredible sequences. Your writing, and all the little things.

Gosh, I’m so helplessly in love with this.

Oh and the sex.. there was actually a whole portion of it in our chat but I’m keeping it away from the public’s eye cause I’m a filthy one.

Anyways, thank you so much for this fic. You’re incredible.

You’re loud. Cocky. Arrogant. You needle him all the time, dig your fingernails in and squeeze, revelling in the way he sets his jaw, the muted spark of irritation in his eyes. You bat your eyelashes and tilt your head, throw it back whenever you laugh and reveal the easing column of your throat, dragging each interaction out with a kind of sadistic pleasure that has him gritting his teeth. Because you love annoying him, getting under his skin, tapping your fingers against the soft swell of your bottom lip as you eye him up, taking your time before you speak.

Infuriating. You’re infuriating and you know it.

It’s unfortunate, really, because you’re unavoidable. 

Jungkook had asked, once, why Yoongi doesn’t just go elsewhere. They’re more than familiar with the underbelly of this heaving city, underneath all the neon lights and shimmering holograms and towering skyscrapers and legal tech; the scuttling seams of back alley traders and illegal goods, tech or otherwise. There are plenty of black market dealers, after all, plenty of other vendors he could go to to get the equipment he wants. Plenty of other skilled crafters, artificers, artisans, people who would be more than happy to create the things that Yoongi asks for, that he needs. People who can get their hands on anything you want. For a price.

Yoongi’s answer had been short and succinct.

“She’s the best there is,” he’d said, and that had been that.
