[prologue] [ep.1] [ep.2]

On your way out, you grab a packet of M&M’s that was sitting in the top drawer of your wooden table. Jeongguk’s gaze doesn’t waver and you almost trip on your heels when closing the door behind you. You walk until you’re in front of Jeongguk and he has to raise his head slightly to look at your face. 

“Hey Jeongguk, you want an M&M?” Said boy looks confusedly up at you and you see his eyebrows furrow together before he’s lowly mumbling, “No thanks, I’m stuffed.” 

You press on, not backing down “No seriously. You should have an M&M, they’re really good.” Jeongguk stands up and you take a step back to allow some space between the two of you. Nobody else is really paying attention to the exchange except for Jungwoo, who sits opposite Jeongguk and is watching the two of you with his mouth opening and closing like a fish. 

Reluctantly, Jeongguk’s hand reaches out for an M&M and he says ‘Okay..’. You turn the packet upside down and some of the candies come out. All in various colours. You look at Jeongguk in a way that says ‘Come one, eat them.’ and he slowly brings his hand to his mouth, taking a whiff for reasons you don’t understand and then putting them all in his mouth. The only sound in the entire office is of Jeongguk’s chewing, the voice of salesmen talking to customers too soft. His jaw moves and you fake a smile at him, “Good, huh?” 

A dopey smile on his face, Jeongguk just nods as he stops and swallows hard for a second before speaking, words muffled slightly by the M&Ms in his mouth. “So good.” Jeongguk’s eyes brows raise in appreciation and he moves backwards slightly to sit back down on his chair, thinking that whatever you wanted to do was over. 

The evil look on your face is a stark contrast to the genuine question you ask him. “Hey, I thought you weren’t supposed to eat anything a couple of hours after you’ve had a crown put in.”

Jeongguk is a deer caught in headlights. He’s stopped chewing in shock and you see a bit of drool pool at the corner of his mouth. His mouth falls open and he suddenly comes back to reality with a violent shake of his head before he’s staring at you again. 

“They have this new kind of quick-drying bonding thing. So..” you know he’s lying but sigh and play along nonetheless. 

“Sounds like a good dentist.” you’re still carefully watching Jeongguk’s every move, he has begun to chew again and is almost finished with the sweet treat before you’re aiming another question at him. 

“What’s your dentist’s name?” This time, Jeongguk doesn’t move for a good minute, surprise consuming his entire body as the M&Ms finally disappear and his tongue is green from the mixture of the blue and yellow coloured ones. His breathing also halts, the only thing you hear is the ruffle of papers, and Jeogguk thinks of all the things he could tell you before making up a name and spitting it out, the urging hum that left your lips a second before adding to his impulsive decision. 

“Crentist.” your eyebrows raise up, no hint of amusement on your face as Jeongguk waits with bated breath for your next words. “Your dentist’s name is Crentist?”

He nods and looks away, unable to hold your cold gaze anymore. You take the opportunity to look at him, grey shirt tucked in his black pants and matching coat and tie making him look very professional. Except for the fact that what he had done was not at all professional. Sneaking behind your boss’ back and talking about her getting demoted? When she trusted you so much? Pathetic. 

“Sounds a lot like ‘dentist’.” Jeongguk just nods along, still not looking at you and quickly sits down on his chair, busying himself with his work and clicking on his mouse. Jungwoo has gone back to his work now, bored by your talks but looks up when he hears you say something so out of the ordinary. 

“Maybe that’s why he became a dentist.” Jungwoo quips silently from his chair and you threateningly glare at him, using your non-existent telepathy to tell him to shut up. You ignore what he just said and continue asking Jeongguk another question.

“Let me see your teeth.” Both the men look up simultaneously, faces portraying unadulterated shock as you say it again and move closer to Jeongguk. He inhales sharply and you move even closer, not bothering to spare a glance at Jungwoo who now seems to have forgotten all about his work and is more interested in what you were doing. 

“Let me see ‘em.” you’re moving your hand to Jeongguk’s chin and trying to force his lips apart, he seems to not resist at all, opening his mouth wide. His teeth are white, but just because you’re annoyed at him, you say, “You should floss them.” He pulls back from your hold only to snap back a snarky reply “I do.” he rolls his eyes and you wonder where the sudden sass comes from. 

One of your hands that was at the top of his head, holding him in place moves back and you straighten your back before smiling. “Well, I’m glad you’re fine.” 

Nobody else has looked at you and even Jungwoo was now diligently working after seeing that you weren’t gonna do anything else. Jeongguk doesn’t even look at you and nods, fixing his tie. You’re vaguely offended but retreat into your office again, this time for some research before calling Jeongguk to carry out the rest of your foolproof plan.
