Umm. Why are there taxidermy bats on Amazon?! Bats are a protected group of animals, meaning that the only place you should be able to find taxidermy of them is museums. The fact that they’re on Amazon means that Amazon is selling illegally obtained animals, likely poached. Sellers will claim that they “found” a bat and decided to turn it into a taxidermy piece. That’s bullshit.
I’m not surprised that Amazon is selling illegal items, it’s just awful that they’re selling taxidermy of animals that are legally protected.
Do NOT buy these items. If you want a bat, please just buy a plushie. It’s legal and doesn’t encourage poaching.
Slight correction: Not every bat species has legal protections, but Amazon didn’t specify what species was being sold.

Wishing that my mom would stop trying to give me advice when I talk about how much pain I’m in. Like, no, it’s not dehydration. Going to bed earlier won’t cure my chronic pain.
Screaming and crying in agony for two nights in a row because I tried to exercise and ended up pulling every muscle in both legs. Taking days off work and wondering how many days I can take off before I get fired. Indirectly being called lazy by my mom, who thinks that I have a sensory processing issue rather than the reality that no, I’m not imagining this pain.
Spending so much time in my room. Not because I’m “lazy,” but because walking is hell. She claims that I’m on my computer too much. Okay. When’s the last time I was on it for more than an hour? At least a month. Because my hands and wrists are killing me constantly.
She wants me to know how to do stuff on my own, but never has the time to teach me anything. Gets mad at me for not knowing things that I was never taught. Mad at me for not being able to read her mind. For being “rude,” when I can’t actually control the tone of my voice. Like, come on. You literally work with autistic kids for a living. You should know at least SOMETHING about autism, then.
She just. Doesn’t listen. Ever. It’s always a fight. I talk about how I felt abandoned as a kid and she gets mad at me for “calling her a shitty mother.” No. I said that my child-brain felt abandoned and alone because I was the one standing up for you when my dad treated you like an object. I spent the majority of my childhood hiding from my dad and brother, and you spent all that time rolling over and doing what you were told.
Stop saying you understand my pain. You don’t know what it’s like to watch your health decline, to wonder how long it’ll be before you don’t have the strength to get out of bed. To wonder if you have the mental capacity to care about your own death, because you accepted the inevitably of death when you were six years old.
But I can’t tell her that. Because then I’m the one being cruel
ITS NOT MT FAULT THAT IM SICK
psa for cane, crutch, and wheelchair users getting top surgery:
you will not be able to exert much effort with your arms. self supporting with a cane or crutch or self propelling in your wheelchair is inadvisable.
make sure you have a support person to help you, or be prepared to be using your legs more if you are able.
Anyways if you use straight jackets and other forms of restraint, padded rooms, in your art etc as someone who has not experienced this form of psych abuse I really really need you to tread lightly. I need you to be fucking respectful about it. If I see it used as a throwaway aesthetic choice or god fucking forbid as a JOKE one more time. I will set shit on fire.
I need you to understand that this is one of the worst things that can be done to someone, that it completely breaks you down. It is generally paired with isolation from other patients, sometimes In special rooms, sometimes stereotypically "padded" (though in real life I've only ever seen thick carpet being used, not whatever exists in those movies).
Really think about what it would do to you to be tied down in an empty room, no clocks, no indicator of time passing aside from the steps you hear coming down the hallway sometimes. Are they having lunch? Are they having dinner? no humans around you majority of the time, the nurses just checking on you through a window that you often cant see them through. They might be painted pink, or purple, etc, meant to "calm" you. It doesnt. It makes you lose your mind. You cant even fucking scratch your nose. There is nothing to fill the time. No reading. No listening to music. No connection to anyone who might help you. You can scream for hours, but you often quickly learn that the more you scream the longer they will keep you there like this. The most human reaction to this treatment is seen as proof of your insanity and as a need to prolong this treatment.
that it is often used to break you into compliance with whatever other fucked up shit they want to force on you. You dont want to take your meds? Well we cant legally force them down your throat (at least in some places I guess) but we CAN tie you down for a shit ton of time and the only way we will let you go is if you "consent" to taking your meds.
Your OC, your fucking blorbos, whatever, laying in a padded room tied up might be funny to you, isnt it so hilarious that they're (treated like) "one of those crazies". Look at this funny picture hihi. Sitcoms use this shit too. Psych ward, padded room, restraints, cue the laugh track.
But as one of those crazies we can usually tell when you want to actually depict our suffering and recognize it as such, give it the gravity it deserves. and when you only see this intense abuse as a funny thing or an aesthetic. And both are absolutely disgusting. Is this necessary? Is it worth more than preserving our dignity after the fact with treating our trauma with the seriousness and weight it deserves?
Can confirm. A lot of those places are abusive, and even the ones that aren’t will make the person being put there feel like they’ve been abandoned and/or given up on by their parents. It’s a place built to profit off of those who are struggling, not to help them. And a lot of the time, these places won’t actually work with the parent, which is a problem. Because the parents are often part of why the teen is “troubled” in the first place. These places will make people more depressed and miserable than they were before.
Source: I’ve been to wilderness therapy and two so-called “therapeutic boarding schools”
To all the people who say "well, what if a parent sending their kid to a troubled teen facility is a last resort", I am here to counter that with the fact that sending your kid to a troubled teen facility will absolutely make it worse.
Sending your kid to a troubled teen facility as a "last resort" is like trying to remove a brain tumor by shooting at it with a gun. These facilities are so absolutely dog shit that they will make the problem you seek to remove ten times worse.
Do not send your child to these facilities even as a last resort. They will never help your child.
My knees hate me. Actually, my whole body hates me, but my knees seem to be extra hateful today
