Three ships: Everlark, Valarney courtesy of the blue castle book club that I stumbled onto my first day on tumblr. I don't really have another, maybe Dal-Mi and Do-San from startup? Which is apparently a controversial take...

Favorite color: burgundy/wine red/deep purple + all Browns! I think brown is underrated.

Currently consuming: It's clementine season!!

First ship: Everlark is what brought me into fandom culture. I didn't think I had the capacity to be into fandom but over the past couple years I've unlocked the ability to connect with media. I feel so strongly now when I watch or read things. I feel like a whole different person honestly. Also as much as I shit on the lack of everlark in the movies, it was a youtube movie edit that made me obsessed with them

Relationship status: Almost 5 years with who I will now refer to as sunnymyx. He is my dandelion in the spring. He is my best friend. I credit him for a lot of my newfound emotional capacity as I finally feel safe and at home. Putting off marriage for a while in an attempt to make my family sweat (so they are happy with whatever wedding we have rather than trying to push me to do things I don't want aka big expensive indian wedding)

Last movie: Padmavati, was showing it to sunnymyx and mainly fawning over the costuming. Plus I am planning to take some screenshots for future desi Katniss moodboards.

Currently working on:

A Cyrano de Bergerac story - Peeta has been leaving poems in a tree, Katniss thinks it's Gale. Gale lets her think it's him.

just saw a person on ao3 who bookmarks fics and leaves public ratings and criticisms of them in the bookmarks and hmmmmmmmm

i think people forget that unless you make a bookmark private, anyone can see it. a writer can see the criticism you’re giving them, even if you don’t comment it.

the bookmark comment i got wasn’t even that bad, i just saw worse ones when i clicked on OP’s account. they’ve written digs or unnecessary comments on most of their bookmarks (eg “umm nothing happened. i thought there would be more??” or “ummm not like amazing, also no plot, but like, i liked the idea”)

it’s never even occurred to me to bookmark something i haven’t enjoyed a lot, and i definitely wouldn’t leave a criticism - if i were to do that, i would make the bookmark private because i know how discouraging it can be for writers.

idk, i guess generally the fact that some people still think it’s okay to leave mean comments on fics is baffling to me. i still get the odd hate comment/criticism here and there, and mostly i just ignore because there’s no point interacting, but i feel like this bears repeating ; criticism of someone’s writing - when unsolicited - does so much damage. even when it is solicited, people should be more careful with how they handle it. one nasty comment is literally all it can take to break someone’s confidence.

Do you have any new favorite Odesta fics that you can recommend for the new year?

Hi! Sure, I definitely have some. These are some of my current favorites and have been published/updated within the last few months.

this is the place where we breathe for love by NORsevvy - This is a series featuring Odesta as well as Johanna & Finnick. There's some pre-canon stuff and stuff that aligns with canon, so that gives some variety. It's definitely a great place to start if you're into the found family dynamics between the victors.

no grave can hold my body down (i'll crawl home to her) by rosaeles - If you want a great Finnick lives AU (and who doesn't?), then you should check out this one. It's such a poignant and hopeful piece while still showing that there's struggle in survival, which I love.

Castles Crumbling by CJThrone - What I love about this one is its unique premise. It situates Annie and Finnick in the Panem we know but in a very different context. I won't say much more because I want to avoid spoilers but definitely go read the summary!

Tiger Shark by WreyWrites - This is a fic about Annie's Games and will follow through to the end of Mockingjay. It is canon divergent so there are some differences when we get to the canon timeline. This fic has a really fresh take on Annie, with an interesting blend between elements of Career Annie and non-Career Annie. If that didn't make sense, it will if you read it.

Growing Sideways, Growing Upwards by The_Nerdturtle - This is a modern AU in which Finnick and Annie are actors in Hollywood. It still incorporates elements of canon while giving the relationship a different backdrop. I found this one really cute so it might be a good one to look at.

An Unusual Customer by insomniacscribbler - This is another in-Panem AU that puts odesta into a different context. The dynamic here is really interesting which is what drew me to the fic. It's tagged pretty minimally but let me say that if you like POV Outsider or dramatic irony then you'll probably like this!

the waves and moving crests by inthesquare - This last one is another modern AU set in college, where Annie and Finnick are both students and Olympic athletes. I really like the elements of canon that it brings in, and the odesta romance is softer without being in Panem, while still having realism.
