Im Thinking About That Scene Near The Beginning Of Into The Spider-verse Where Mary Jane Is Delivering
iâm thinking about that scene near the beginning of into the spider-verse where mary jane is delivering her eulogy for spider-man to an assembled crowd and some people are wearing his mask / costume, including miles, and the camera pans over their faces with miles in centre frame while MJ says, âwe all have powers of one kind or another. but in our own way, we are all spider-man,â and then the camera focuses in on miles and she says, âand weâre all counting on you.â and itâs just *chefâs kiss* bc the storytelling! the cinematography! the symbolism! single-handedly revived the medium of animation

I know tumblr is awful with links but this month someone committed arson at a mosqur in Tacoma, WA during a service. Members of the mosque are safe but they are reaching out for donations to help rebuild
The fact that all Marinette sees when she looks at Adrien after the reveal is Chat Noir, but then she realizes that she loves both sides of him and they show us that by giving us the scene where Chat Noir gives her the umbrella and *thunder claps* to Adrien.
Thatâs some poetic cinema right there.

I REALLY love how Luka's wisdom opened Marinette's eyes to a new perspective in Ephemeral.
At first she was like-

And then she asks herself the IMPORTANT question.

Even though she keeps SEEING Chat Noir in Adrien, she STILL feels conflicted and very much in denial, me thinks. That's why she looks so troubled.
And then Luka gives her this wonderful statement:

And it allowed her to see the whole picture.

In comparison to Adrien, Marinette was the one that needed adjustment first, and more than Adrien too. This has more emotional impact. It was all about learning how to see the full essence of a person even though it could be a bit jarring and uncomfortable at first. This only deepened her feelings into something brand new and thats why she was no longer hesitant to reveal herself anymore. Even knowing how dangerous it could be if he knew her identity, it moved her to be more vulnerable and transparent with him. Love makes you do that. That's also why Adrien ALWAYS wanted to reveal himself to Ladybug too. Keeping secrets and lying to the one you care about the most is always never the best feeling.

It's just really unfortunate that they were also born with a unique destiny to save lives and dedicate themselves to something bigger than both of them. But ultimately, it's their bond, their connection and their love that keeps them going, despite the challenges they face..
Can you tell I'm emotional about Ephemeral? đ€Ł
Honestly, Gabrielâs horrible behavior makes so much sense now that we know that his wish being granted means reality gets rewritten entirely.
Think about it. If Gabriel knows that reality will be rewritten when his wish is granted, then he also knows that nothing he does really matters because his wish is going to wipe the slate clean and erase all of it so that it never happened in the first place. Whatever he does, good or bad, is going to be completely wiped out the moment his wish is granted and reality is rewritten. As a result:
â His treatment of Adrienâof this Adrienâdoesnât matter, because when reality is rewritten, this Adrien will cease to exist. Instead, the Adrien that will exist will be the Adrien that would have existed had Emilie never fallen comatose. The Adrien that will exist is one that wonât have been neglected or emotionally abused. The Adrien that will exist is one that wonât have been akumatized into Chat Blanc or Ephemeral. Sure, Gabriel is doing horrible things to this Adrien, but this Adrien is only temporary, so itâs okay. The Adrien that will exist after reality is rewrittenâthe one that, in Gabrielâs mind, will stick around as the real Adrienâwill be much happier, and thatâs what matters most. (Side note that this might also be why Gabriel is so distant; he knows that reality will be rewritten and this Adrien will disappear, so why bother to bond or have a close relationship? All of that will be undone, so thereâs no point in doing it in the first place.)
â His affair with Nathalie doesnât matter, because when reality is rewritten, itâll never have happened. He wonât have cheated on Emilie because in the reality that comes about as a result of his wish, that affair never happened. Hell, Nathalie might not even be his assistant anymore. Bonus, sheâll be restored to full health because sheâll have never used the broken Peacock Miraculous. So her being bedridden doesnât really matter, either.
â His akumatizations of children, toddlers, and literal babies doesnât matter, because again, none of that will have ever happened once reality is rewritten. Yes, heâs making them suffer now, but heâs going to create a new reality and wipe this one from existence, so ultimately, they wonât have suffered at all in the end.
â And likewise, his throwing a fourteen-year-old girl bodily across a movie theater, slamming her into walls, and ripping earrings out of her ears doesnât matter, because in a few seconds heâs going to rewrite reality and that will have never happened. Her pain isnât real to him, because in a few seconds it wonât be. He doesnât feel guilty because heâs about to undo it. Heâs about to undo her. In the new reality there will be a Marinette Dupain-Cheng, but it wonât be this Marinette Dupain-Cheng. And he thinks thatâs for the better.
Itâs so easy to understand how Gabriel manages to do truly heinous things and then continue about his day like he hasnât done anything wrong now that we know he has this rationalization in his mind. There are people who, if they knew they had 24 hours to do things with no consequences because those things would be undone at the end of the 24 hours, would do heinous things. Not everyone, of courseâbut some. There are people who would, who would do so with the rationalization that, âWell, itâs not real, itâll all be undone in the end, so why not?â Of course, Gabriel isnât able to reset things in 24 hours. He canât reset things until he gets the Ladybug and Black Cat Miraculouses. But perhaps thatâs why he gets more desperate, violent, and depraved as time goes on: because heâs having to rationalize more and more, and the only way he can continue to rationalize it is if he thinks, âokay, but if I do this heinous thing and it works, then I can just undo it anyway.â Knowing that Gabriel wonât just be magically healing Emilie, but that he will be rewriting reality itself, makes it so much easier to understand why he can do deplorable things and still go to sleep at night. Because yes, maybe heâs being a complete monster in this reality. But in the new reality he wonât have done any of these things, so in that reality, he wonât be.
Or so he tells himself, anyway.
Why do you leave this in the tags? đ
You're right! đ
Also he is blond again?

Not me thinking Gabriel actually looks good without his glasses like come on
