all the hidden meanings!

colors:

red is the color of sirius’ shirt, narcissa’s lips and regulus’ pocket handkerchief. red represents how they rebelled against their family (sirius ran away and was openly against their morals, narcissa lied to voldemort and basically helped defeating him w her words, regulus turned against voldemort at the last moment, dying for his cause)

narcissa and andromeda are the only ones not wearing black, and they’re the only survivors in this picture.

clothes and accessories:

andromeda is wearing a white dress that resembles a bride’s dress, because she ran away to marry ted. her and sirius’s clothes are also less restricting than regulus and narcissa’s, because unlike their younger siblings they got their freedom.

andromeda, like her cousins, is wearing silver jewelry, aside from a gold ring (her engagement ring), and with her hand she’s covering a family pendant (she chose love over her family). regulus is wearing a pin that looks like salazar’s locket.

poses and such:

andromeda isn’t looking at the camera because she was the first to “look away from her family”, and sirius is looking at her because he would soon follow in her footsteps (andy also has a hand on his shoulder to further represent her influence on him). similarly, bellatrix (who is the only one smiling) is keeping an hand on narcissa so she wouldn’t leave. narcissa has a hand clenched in a fist, covered by her left, (as a way to hide her defiance).

Just as James has settled on the bed while he reads over Sirius' notes, there's a knock at the door.

"Reggie?" Sirius calls out, and the door opens to reveal a roud face with flushed cheeks and messy curls that almost cover the younger boy's eyes. "How many times must I tell you that if it's you at my door you don't need to knock?"

Reggie- Regulus, James remembers as he scrambles to straighted up on the bed in an attempt to look decent, glances at James.

"I just wanted to be polite." He says, voice soft. "You have a guest."

"It's just Jimmy." Sirius dismisses without missing a beat. "Don't worry about him."

James rolls his eyes at Sirius' back, shooting up and onto his feet. "James Potter!" He smiles his best smile, utterly satisfied when Regulus' blush deepens. "It's a pleasure, finally meeting you."

"Hi, James." Regulus walks into the room, holding his hand out to James with a shy smile. "I'm Regulus. I... I like your jumper."

James squeezes Regulus' hand before letting it go. "Thank you, I bought it a couple of weeks ago." There's much James could comment on when it comes to Regulus' appearance: Regulus is wearing a jumper himself, bigger than his slight frame, with fluffy socks that match its colour and a pair of light blue pants with clouds printed on them.

He's so cute.

James watches Sirius from the corner of his eye, but his friend is still distracted by the message Moony sent him that he's trying to decipher. He leans into Regulus' space, winking when he says: "I like your smile."

Regulus tries to hide it behind one of his hands, but his smile widens and his whole being brithens at the compliment. James has to fight against the urge to coo at him.

Before he can answer James, Sirius clears his throat. When James turns towards him, he finds Sirius watching him with raised eyebrows. James sheepishly moves away from Regulus, sitting back on the bed and pretenting to still be reading from the notes.

"Reggie." Sirius nods at the other boy to go to his side. "Ignore Potter, he has to study from my notes because he's an idiot."

Regulus hesitates for a second, but then he follows his brother's orders, leaning on his side when he reaches him. "What are you doing, 'rius? I'm bored."

"Replying to a wonderful, maddening individual. Take my switch, turn the playstation on, I don't care. Just sit with me, alright?"

Regulus is too delighted by his brother's words to pay attention to the way Sirius leans away so he can glare daggers at James. "I'm gonna start playing The Last of Us, then!"

"Yeah sure," Sirius hums distractedly, but he's smiling. "I'll take over once I'm done here, okay?"

"Thank you!" Regulus turns to James, gesturing towards the TV. "I get easily spooked." He admits.

James is fucked. It's as simple as that. "That's fair," he says, struggling to keep a hold of the notes. "Want me to-"

"Why don't you finish studying, Jimbo?" Sirius cuts in, eyes still stuck to his phone's screen. His voice is like ice, and James sighs in defeat. "Wouldn't want Professor Sprout to fail you, right?"

"Right..."

Mistakes (1/1) (jegulus)

Regulus didn't know what he was going to do. He was so worried James was going to be mad. James had never been mad for this type of thing before, but here he was looking at his 4-year-old's crayon scribbles all over James' book draft.

Regulus hadn't realized what the stack of paper was and told Harry he could grab pieces to draw on from the pile on James' desk. When he came back from getting him some water Regulus saw the printed text of the nearly-finished story covered.

"Oh no," Regulus had said when he realized. Harry pouted and when Regulus started picking things up trying to fix it, Harry knew he had done something bad but wasn't too sure what. His small face quickly filled with sadness; He didn't want his dad to be disappointed in him.

James was going to be home any minute, and sure enough Regulus heard the car pull in the driveway. There was nothing he could do, feeling himself go into a mix of protect and fight mode, he couldn't keep his expression neutral. Harry read the fear because it was all over his face and started to cry.

James walked into a very upset household. He had gone to call out his usual happy hello, but he heard his son crying and walked into the living room to see Regulus cradling him in his lap, whispering reassurances soothingly to him: "tu n'as rien fait de mal, c'est moi qui t'ai dit de l'utiliser, c'était juste une petite erreur."

"Hey..." James said tentatively.

"Okay. Listen- James it was just an accident. I'm so sorry but I told Harry to grab paper from the pile on your desk and he grabbed your manuscript instead and drew all over it, but it wasn't his fault okay I told him too, blame me." Regulus rushed out, holding Harry a little bit tighter.

James understood what was happening right away. "Love it's okay, simple mistake. That's just the draft anyway," James said walking over and kneeling down next to them. He put a hand on Harry's back.

"It's okay son, just a little mistake yeah?" James said softly. Harry turned his tear stained face to look at James and then held his arms out for James to take him into a big hug.

Regulus immediately calmed, but his eyes stayed cautious as he watched James pick up the pages Harry drew on.

"Reg, we should frame these!" James said after looking at them. "Honestly how cool that he put his art on mine and now it's this abstract." James said turning the page to see it from different angles, forever finding the bright side.

Then James turned around and grabbed the crayons, "here," he said handing the paper and crayons to Regulus. "You draw on there too, then we can all have a piece of it!" James said.

Harry was smiling from his lap now as he watched Regulus transcribe the notes from the the lullaby James and Regulus had made up for Harry.

"We will put it on the fridge for now, yes? Then get a frame on the weekend!" James explained and Harry followed him into the kitchen to watch James hang it with a "special magnet" Harry picked.

"You okay?" James asked as he saw Regulus lean in the doorway.

"Now yes, was a bit freaked out for a moment. Sorry about that..." Regulus said dropping his gaze.

"You have absolutely nothing to be sorry about." James reassured and then pressed a sweet kiss on his head.
