Yuu Nishinoya From Haikyuu!!What He Lacks In Stature, He Makes Up In Enthusiasm!

Yuu Nishinoya from Haikyuu!! What he lacks in stature, he makes up in enthusiasm!
Since I posted those lovingly rendered volleyball captains from before I realised I might as well post the matching giant embarrassing picture of my tiny embarrassing favourite. I think he is the best and I would carry him around in my pocket. (Although my goodness, my colouring pencil set was not friendly to his skin tone.) Incidentally, colouring the collar of his shirt set off a really intense (almost flashback-level) memory of the sort of... musty and slightly goat-like... smell of the boys in secondary school. Make of that what you will. Did I mention I really like drawing bruises?

Sammy filmed me inking her sketch and made a lovely time-lapse! If you’re interested in how I do my ‘ink and water’ pictures, this is it! Materials: Sketch (by Sammy): 2H pencil on bristol board Inks (by me): Rotring art pen, Pentel water brush pens.
Incidentally I’ve got normal, cheap, water-soluble black ink cartridges in the pen, the kind you can get in packs of 100 from any old stationer’s shop. I’m so happy Rotring pens take standard-size cartridges!

Since @sarahfogg moved to Birmingham we’ve been meeting up regularly for ‘inking club’ … to start with we were working on our own comics/illustration projects, but we realised last week it would be fun to do some swaps. So this is my pencils, with Sarah’s inks :)
www.misfits.tumblr.com for comics about these guys!

I’m surprised how well these line up, since they’re several pages apart in the sketchbook. Didn’t manage such an extreme angle on Alexis though... In their world this sort of cosmic ‘fair warning’ principle in the notes is behind the many stories of the Devil walking with a limp due to his cloven feet. I wrote ‘can’ in my notes, but the same fairness principle actually forces Alexis to hide his angelic features most of the time. It doesn’t count if you lead a soul to sin by disguising yourself as a human and directly deceiving them, and it also doesn’t count if they do good because you said so and you’re obviously a messenger of Heaven. Leilus must love anime conventions where he can pretend his eyes are just really good contact lenses.

Still inking starters. I always pick Charmander.
