Inktober 2016 - Day 8 : G-pen It says something about Spider’s personality that he can be so happy about bending a spoon when Nettle is lifting herself, him and probably half the house in the air without even really trying. I think I’ve drawn a variation of this picture for the last 3 Inktobers in a row. It’s probably fine as long as I use a different inking method each time.

Inktober 2016 - Day 17 : g-pen and grey pen I realised I hadn’t drawn the Mirror Twins yet this year, so here they are! That might well be a ‘Hand of Glory’, but let’s not ask where they got it.

Inktober 2016 - Day 22 : g-pen and grey pen My G-pen seemed to be misbehaving so I drew something nice and simple to test it, luckily it turns out the problem was that I was tired rather than the pen being damaged.

Inktober 2016 - Day 30 : G-pen There’s just enough time left for Lena to show off one more divination technique!

I ended up doing a lot of companion pieces in this year’s Inktober, so I thought I’d compile them so you can see them side-by-side. I’m pleased by how well most of them line up, since I do these in a bound sketchbook and they’re all many pages apart. Also a bonus pair from last year!

I was re-watching Hōzuki no Reitetsu lately, so here’s two different ‘hōzuki’ drawings. I should probably admit they’re from a loooong time ago, since my budding paparazzo of a friend posted one of them on Twitter the day I finished it. She has no respect for my queue.

Intober 2017 : Day 2 - G-pen

The Mirror Twins have lots of friends to talk to. I promise I did actually do this on the 2nd! I have two jobs so sometimes I’m out of the house all day (literally from 6am to 10pm) so there’s no time at all to scan anything.

Inktober 2017 : Day 14 - G-pen (and a brush to fill in the black) When one awakes in a strange, dark world with no idea what is going on, Shasta’s is not the most comforting face to see looming overhead.

Inktober 2017 : Day 23 - G-pen Tree fairies of his type don’t usually venture far from their home tree, so Sweetpea has never seen a sweet chestnut before. It’s like a little hedgehog!

I’ve been getting a little bored of the stamps I use when I package Etsy orders, so I’ve made myself some address labels! The larger ones are for the customer’s address and the little ones are for the return address. (I did have to edit the top one slightly from how it appears here to give myself more space though.) I was tempted to make more, but I’ll stick with these two for the time being. I have a bad habit of being over-enthusiastic when I make things and ending up with too many to use! Do you remember the Pocket Witches? Introducing Pocket Witch Vox! Before she took shape Vox encountered a little girl who loved to sing, she had no ear for music at all and was horribly out of tune, but she was too little to know it and loved to listen to the radio and belt out songs at the top of her voice, pretending to be a pop star. It made her so happy that Vox was able to take form from her happiness, and took the shape of a song! Unlike the little girl, Vox is an excellent singer who can mimic any voice and change her outfit to match the song she sings. She likes to hang around humans who love music and sing along to whatever they’re playing, she doesn’t care if you’re any good, only that it makes you happy. Karaoke bars are her favourite place in the world.

Inktober 2018 : Day 4 - G-pen (and a brush pen for the black) I’ve now come down with a horrible cold, so I thought the Mirror Twins would be nice and easy to draw, but every line of this was a battle! TT_TT

Inktober 2018 : Day 20 - G-pen and brush pen I’d already done two pictures with this composition by accident, so I decided to keep going and make a set!

Day 3 of Mermay - a classic two-tailed mermaid (like the one on the Starbucks logo). I’m not sure when mermaids went from a tail for each leg to only having one tail, there’s quite a large span of history where you can find both, so maybe it was based on how discreet the artist needed to be? She was going to have a proper background but my pen was dying, so I thought I’d quit while I was ahead.

Inktober 2019: day 10 - G-pen

Sweetpea is trying on a new hat, but I don’t think it’s going to stay on over his hair. Maybe he’ll have better luck once the other ear frill drops.

I promise I drew this on the day, I just ran out of time/energy to scan it! I keep coming up with ideas that I know will take too long, but then I can’t bring myself to go with a weaker idea so I end up having to finish it at night. Sweetpea turned out looking so cute though, so it’s worth it, right?

Inktober 2019: day 26 - G-pen

Poppet’s friend found a smashed up breakfast bar, and it was far too big to eat alone.

This was much simpler in my head than it was to draw! Poppet and her friends are very easy to draw, but I didn’t factor in having to draw the breakfast bar and figure out how to position them all.

Here’s the rest of them! Right at the end of this month I decided I had run out of time, so the real life sketchbook has a few pages painted flat black between these.

I feel a lot better this year, but I have a couple of strategies planned in case things go badly again. I might go as small as A7 if a whole page is too daunting, and in the limit if I really can’t do anything on a given day I’ll paint it black again. That way I won’t have a backlog - either it’s done or it’s not.

Inktober is may favourite art event of the year so I hope this time goes better!
