It’s some angry monkeys for your enjoyment! I thought Mankey and Primape would be difficult to place in a realistic environment, but they were actually very easy. These pokémon will be available in my shop when they’re painted!

What’s this? A finished pencil drawing? It’s true! I started a new part-time evening job at the university library, which is extremely quiet when I’m there, and I’m actually allowed to draw to pass the time. It’s amazing! I’m used to retail jobs where doing anything non-work-related is strictly verboten no matter how quiet the shop is. So anyway, here’s Fret looking slightly distressed in his birch grove, the product of sitting at the library counter with nothing better to do. I’d like to do a painting of him and Larkspur soon to show their proper colours. I’m fairly often guilty of designing characters with important colour schemes and then drawing them in black and white all the time.

To my surprise, Golduck was the more difficult of these two. I couldn’t figure out how it was supposed to swim ‘elegantly’ with that body plan.

Ahh, Spearow and Fearow, the scruffier and more aggressive end of the gen 1 bird types. Fearow was harder than I expected, but a lot of fun once I found the right reference for the wings (I went with a vulture).

I love Vulpix and Ninetales! I dithered for a long time over the flames, whether they should be red (like in the anime) or blue (because ‘foxfire’ is usually blue), but in the end I couldn’t resist the more mystical-looking blue flames. These two gave me so much trouble by the way, from sketch to ink to painting! Why are all my favourites so difficult? Perhaps my standards are higher because I like them so much. These are both available to buy in my online shop!

Another couple of bug types! I recall Venonat being one of the ones I preferred not to evolve, because Venomoth was insufficiently fluffy in comparison. It’s grown on me over the years though, I like them both now. These will go up in my shop when they’re painted, so keep an eye out!
