Happy International Asexuality Day!!
Happy International Asexuality Day!!
đđâ ď¸ sending so much love to any tumblr folk who are on the asexual &/or aromantic spectrums like me. â ď¸đđ
â ď¸What is Asexuality?â ď¸
An Asexual is a person who rarely or never experiences sexual attraction. They are not drawn to people sexually and do not feel compelled to act on attraction to others in a sexual way. Asexuality does not preclude you from experiencing other types of attraction (including romantic attraction) to people of the same or different gender to yourself, or define whether you want to be in a committed relationship.
đWhy is awareness important? đ
An absence of attraction is much harder to define than a presence; and lack of awareness means many people have no idea that there are words to describe their experiences or others who feel the same. While the term has been in common use since the 1960s, many people are well over the age of 25 when they first hear the word - especially if they experience romantic attraction to the opposite gender and havenât had much exposure to the broader LGBTIQAP+ community. When youâre told all of your life that romantic feelings about someone are inextricably linked to sexual attraction it can be confusing when your experiences donât seem to match. It can also be hard to tell what is hyperbole and what are thoughts that allosexual (the opposite of asexual) people have the intention of doing?
There is are strong social and cultural messages which use the development of sexual thoughts, sexual relationships and having children as markers of age and maturity. It can be difficult to express a lack of sexual desire without being invalidated or challenged by the people around you or your own built in expectation that sex is fundamental to being human. Are you medically or psychologically unwell? Are you repressed? Broken? Prudish? A late bloomer? Will this âall make senseâ when I meet âthe right personâ?
While most identities on the LGBTIQAP+ spectrum are becoming better protected from medicalisation and psychiatric diagnosis - Asexuality has a long way to go.
It is still very common for people who are questioning or on the Asexuality spectrum to be offered medical testing and treatment aimed at curing their Asexuality. Most GPs still routinely recommend blood tests to check hormone levels, assessment for depression or other mental illnesses, recommend counselling or prescribe medication to boost libido.
.
â ď¸Celibacy Vs Asexualityâ ď¸
Celibacy is like being on a diet. You still want to have sex and have sexual thoughts about others but are choosing not to act on them at that time. Whether itâs based on your beliefs or availability of a suitable partner varies but that desire is still present even if intentionally suppressed.
Asexuality is like not experiencing hunger because youâre already eaten enough. You donât have sexual thoughts about others or feel compelled to act on them.
đAttraction Vs Libidođ
Libido is typically the amount that you think about sex and how much you want to engage in sexual activities either partnered or solo. Libido is on a spectrum for people of all sexual orientations. They normally range from high to low. Libido can fluctuate and change over the lifespan and it can be influenced by hormone levels as well as some medications.
Attraction is usually whether your libido is directed at a particular person or type of person. Attraction can also be seen as the extent to which you want to act on sexual thoughts about a particular person.
Asexual people can and do experience a range of libidos from high to low. However they do not experience attraction, therefore are less likely to feel compelled to act on it and rarely associate it with a specific person.
â ď¸Attitudes towards Sexâ ď¸
Asexuality is a wide spectrum, individual wants and needs vary but all are valid and normal.
In broad terms: Some asexuals are sex positive, they may not experience hunger but still get pleasure out of sharing a meal with someone. Some asexuals are ambivalent towards sex, itâs something they can take or leave. Some asexuals are completely or partially repelled by the idea of personally participating in sexual activity with a partner.

Passing: Profiling the Lives of Young Trans Men of Color (2015).
[ID: Excerpts from interviews with two trans men. The first, Lucah Rosenberg Lee, has a shaved head and a trimmed beard. The second, Victor Thomas, has curly black hair and a trimmed beard, and is heavier-set.
Lucah, talking about gender dysphoria prior to transitioning, says, âI was in a heterosexual relationship. I was female. I would question this all the time. Am I attracted to these men, or do I just want to be them? That was a big turning point in my own self-discovery.â
Victor, talking about the transphobia heâs endured as a trans man of color, says, âYouâre subjected to something because they donât understand you. And you have to watch the way you react, because youâre a man now. People take you as a threat.â
Lucah, in another scene, discusses feeling erased as a trans man, and racism in trans communities. He says, âBeing so invisible within the LGBT community can actually feel so isolating. When people donât know my history as a trans person, I feel sometimes that Iâm viewed as more of an enemy.â END ID.]
Trans men of color deserved to be loved and appreciated, and made safe. Trans men deserve access to our own spaces, no matter how masculine and cis-passing we are. We deserve credit and recognition for the contributions that we have made to trans history, most of which are erased nowadays.
Being a man is not dangerous or wrong. Being masculine is not dangerous or wrong. Being a black man is not dangerous or wrong.
Please support trans men of color.
Please support trans men.
Please support men.
Men belong in trans spaces. Men of color belong in LGBT+ spaces. Straight trans men belong at Pride. Men do not have to be feminine to be queer.
How to draw Afro textured 4c hair - an explanation/Tutorial
For those of you that donât know what 4c hair is, 4c hair is a hair texture type that contains coils to small and tight that the hair appears to be more puffy rather than curly ( like to photo below ) this is in NO WAY to be confused with curly hair. there is a drastic difference.

As a black artist that primarily draws characters with 4c hair, Iâve been asked many times to do a tutorial on 4c hair so here we go~

before we get into 4c hair, lets take a moment to fully understand it by talking about hair texture in a general sense first

letâs take a look at this example of straight hair vs curly hair ( 1 type straight hair vs 3 type curly hair )

If you take a moment to compare the two youâll notice straight hair is flat, it has no texture. Straight hair perfectly hangs down similar to liquid-like silk. Itâs lack of curl pattern is the reason as to why it hangs perfectly flat.
curly hair on the other hand doesnât lie down flat and silky like straight hair, Itâs more thick. Curly hair in itâs raw and unstyled state has a trapezoid like shape this is because the sides of the hair spread more outward.

So why is this? Why is straight hair flat and curly hair thick?
the answer to that question is a thing called piling up. When it comes to hair texture, the shape of the hair strands arenât the only thing that matters, its how the strands coexist with each other, Curly hair strands coexist by piling up on top each other.
moisture also effects hair texture too, different hair types absorbs moisture differently, thus the thickness of each hair type is different.Â

âŚ..soooo, how does this all relate to how to draw 4c hair??Â
Well letâs take a look at the drawing below. Notice how the arrows go outward more as the hair texture gets curlier. As weâve already discussed, this is because hair piles up, The curlier the hair texture, the more it piles up on each other, the bigger it gets, the more outward the arrows go.
Out of any hair texture, 4C hair has the most curls. Because of this, the hair piles up on each other so much that it doesnât lie down flat like straight hair, nor does it make a trapezoid like shape like curly hair, it instead becomes more cloud like.â¤ď¸

This is what you need to take into account when it comes to drawing 4C hair.

Think of it as piling up a bunch of cotton balls on each other. The most cotton on top of top to lead to a bigger patch of cotton. this is 4c hair.
How to not draw 4c hair:
Garnet fanart. Letâs talk about Garnet Fanart. I notice a trend that when artists draw Garnet from Steven universe, her hair texture is usually changed to 3 type curly like texture. This subtle form of White washing has confused me because this is inaccurate.Â

Garnetâs hair is in the shape of a cube. Though 3 type hair piles up on each other, it isnât curly nor thick enough for their hair to stay in the shape of a cube. Curly hair lies down more than 4c hair. So garnetâs hair being in the shape of a cube is a dead giveaway that it is 4C. Why do you think hairstyles like flat tops are usually seen on black men with 4c hair? Itâs because, the 4c hair texture is thick and strong enough to stay in whatever shape you put it in.

please, if youâre drawing a character with 4c hair, avoid drawing it like curly 3 type hair, this is very anti-black and texturist.
So, how do you draw 4c hair?
honestly, its the most easy thing in the world

i wanna clarify that blobby looking 4c drawings ( like the one on the top left ) can work depending on how cartoony your art style is.
Another thing that I want to greatly clarify when it comes to drawing 4C hair is, YOU. DONT. NEED. TO. DRAW. EVERY. HAIR. STRAND!âŚ..like, seriously. Iâve gotten many messages about how 4C hair is hard to draw, and itâs always left me confused; but then I find out that the same people that have trouble drawing 4C hair, attempt to draw every single strand of hair. This is unnecessarily time consuming because itâs merely impossible to get every single detail down, especially when you have a simple cartoon style. 4C hair does not require much effort, all youâre doing is drawing lumps. Itâs that simple, nothing more nor nothing less.
The reason why I greatly advise all of you to avoid drawing every single hair strand is because in real life, when you look at a 4C textured Afro, your eyes donât pick up on each individual hair strand like straight or curly hair. 4C hair, appears to be more undefined and cloud like, so attempting to draw each and every individual strand is unnecessary and will most likely end up looking inaccurate.

Anyways! thatâs it for now! there will be a part 2 to this tutorial that will come out next week! i hope you guys have learned from this and apply it to your black character in your art!~
WARNING!!!!

People, please be careful. There are also people tracking children and people and putting bids on them based on their profile pictures on whatsapp, tracking and kidnapping them. Especially young children, so please be cautious, especially parents who have their children as their profile pictures.
Please pass this on to everyone so that they are aware of the danger. I donât how it is all around the world but I know it canât just be here so please please spread the word. Thank you.
