I am convinced that these are spiral leitners.
-The ones I've read feel like they should be funny, but aren't (NOT like the author tried and failed, but I look at a line and go "ah yes hilarious joke" but it's not comedic)
-Bizarre storylines, lots of angst and people going insane, everything is an AU
-Quite long (usually 15k+ words) but only has one chapter
-For some reason I always forget all about them after I finish reading, and I only find them again if I'm sleep deprived
In conclusion, go read these. I especially recommend the daemon AU.
