Just small details about character designs that help me distinguish characters, I'll be using Yes Man as an example

Yes Man's design has loads of little details that I love, the little antenna on the top right of his head, the little crosses on his shoulders, as I like to call them idk if they have an actual term, the fact that the wire going around the bottom of his shoulders is one long wire that goes around the top of his face, etc, etc.

Whenever I see models and drawings of him I always look for these little features, as they help me figure out what character it is.

When it comes to human characters, these features come in handy as I struggle to distinguish between faces, with most people looking the same to me. Say a character has black hair and a purple T-Shirt:

Those would be the recognisable features for me.

But what if a artist were to change the shirt colour to, let's say yellow, in their own design of the character, but another character already has black hair and a yellow shirt, and I've already got in my head that black hair and yellow shirt belong to that character?

I'd probably see them as the same character, even though they're not.

Where am I going with this? Idfk don't ask me!

I think what I was trying to say is that although I love love LOVE fan designs of characters, it can be hard for me to recognise that character as that character, which is why I love even more when the artist keeps certain recognisable features from the original character.

And that it very only slightly ticks me off when artists forget little features, but in all honesty it doesn't even matter!! It's still Yes Man without the antenna, he's still recognisable. They're small and forgettable features that don't really add or subtract from a character's design, only existing to maybe add a little detail.

I think i just like really looking at a character's small details and memorising them all, don't take this post to heart, I don't even think it makes sense!!

Okay completely random, but something I hate in movies and shit is that trope "oh you look better without your glasses" like I've got glasses, and it just makes me feel like shit, do other people think I look ugly with glasses? And when I see other people with glasses, I think they look pretty with them. Maybe just my opinion.

Anywho, I think Galanos is growing on me. I wanna get better at drawing so I can better portray how he looks in my head.

I like machines—typewriters, computers, cars, clocks, bicycles, phones, dishwashers, cameras, ballpoint pens, etc.

One of the things I like about machines is how they are basically these inert, inanimate objects, until we put some kind of energy into them and provide certain inputs. Then, these objects take on a certain kind of life. They aren't organisms, of course, but they do things.

I was just thinking about this, because my phone's battery had died, and until I plugged it in, it was just a little, meaningless box. But, once it had electricity running through it again, it began to function and "live" by doing all the myriad of things I use it for. It's a wondrous, magical thing.

And my phone's "life" is just as magical to me as my typewriters'. My manual typewriters are basically just heavy heaps of metal, but then load in a sheet of paper and start pressing keys, and before you know it, letters and words and sentences are appearing. Sure, it's purely analog, but it is still a machine that is using some mechanism (and some kind of energy) to translate stimuli into a desired action.

This is magic to me. Our technology, and the nature around us, are all magic. The world is magic, if we're willing to see it that way.
